s7 edge 7.0 beta thread

I've got the Verizon version. No flash or root. You just download it to a folder on the SD card that you name fota. Reboot into the stock recovery, tell it to apply the update and then it updates like normal. Very simple. If you're on Verizon and interested, you should go over there and download it.

Found it on XDA. This method works fine and is completely safe and reversible. Installed it yesterday and am enjoying Grace UX and the blue light filter from the Note 7. The only issues with the Beta so far is that VR isn't working and the FB app sometimes FCs. I don't use Gear VR and use Metal so it won't affect me. And no, this will not screw up your phone. You don't need to be rooted for this to work as it's a signed OTA. If you want to go back to MM, just use ODIN to reflash the PH1 firmware. QED.

Thanks!

You mentioned it is reversible? How? Oh I see... Odin. Scares the hell out of me. I'll pass but thanks for the 411

Yeah I was just on the site. All of the topics that I'm seeing are requiring you to use Odin. I'm not seeing anything where you just download the OTA to your SD Card and just install it in reboot recovery mode. Most of the topics are all saying to connect the phone to the computer with a whole bunch of steps...

Regular Gear S2 working just fine here. The Gear app updated after the OS update.

Ditto here. In fact, as my S2 was disconnecting from Bluetooth overnight and had to be reconnected each morning before the update, the beta is working even better than MM was most recently.

No its not. We want it to work right and be optimized with the phone. I didn't want the update to drain my battery or lag my phone. Glad they're doing it right.

I think the point was that AOD should have worked with 3rd party apps on the S7/S7E out of the box on day 1. I agree. They half-assed it.

I can't find the OTA for Sprint anywhere on the site. All I'm seeing are roms and stuff for rooting the phone. If someone found a link for the OTA for Sprint can you please post the link? XDA is one mess of a site...

There's got to be more to it then that from what I been seeing on YouTube... If something goes wrong with the phone then you are screwed...
Considering that I've done it, I know there's not more to it. Also, I'm well versed in rooting and romming as I used to do it all the time so I'm not worried about getting screwed. Never bricked a phone and I doubt I'll start now.

Don't disagree. But we had that discussion way back in March lol. For Note 7 transplants, I'm glad it's coming for Nogurt. Makes the update all the more interesting. :)

The only available update.zip file is for VZW. You may be able to flash the VZW bootloader on your Sprint phone via ODIN first and then do the update. No guarantees it'll work but that's how a AT&T customer got the beta to install on his phone.

If you feel uncomfortable with ODIN and have reservations that this can screw up your phone then don't try it. But for VZW users this is a pretty brainless procedure.

Hint: Look for a thread called "Galaxy Beta" in the Verizon Samsung S7 Edge forum.

Love this update its awesome was getting tired of this phone but now nougat wow i might keep it a few more months

I actually just did it, It really is that easy. Just download it to your SD card and install from there.

Not sure if anyone else has mentioned this , but since update my write speeds to sd card have doubled. S7e was apparently capped at 34mb/s which upon testing was about right. Im now getting 70+ write speeds which is better than I got on note 7. Which was apparently capped at about 66mb/s . I'm using 64gb pro+ Samsung sd card.

Beats me why anyone would want to play the guinea pig for a large corporation ... .

Especially after Samsungs recent fxxx ups.

Can't they 'test' it themselves? Samsung must have at least three employees in the phone department.

They do this to get more testers. They don't have thousands of testers in house

If I install the Verizon beta, will there be any issues with installing the future "approved" version? I would hate to have to go back to a factory reset to install the "legit" version.
