At first mine was real laggy but it seems to have improved over time. I've only had mine a few days and send lots of texts. So maybe it just needs to snuggle up to me. LOL

Yer kidding right.
I had a S6, went to the S7 Edge, got very tired of how much the screen curved.
Had to get a case to even use it.
Complained to Samsung over and over. Got a Note 7. It was better than the S7Edge cause the screen didn't curve as much.
Got both the OL and me a S8+
She said WoW at the performance difference.
But I think it will take me a little while getting used to the finger print sensor.
Within 15 minutes she said you know what.
With the S6 and S7E and the note 7 , you got to use 2 hands to use the finger print sensor.
With the S8+ you only need one hand. I really like the finger print sensor.
She never wanted a bigger phone.
She went from the S6 to the S7E.
She didn't like the Bigger phone, nor the weight. or carrying it.
She did like the heck out of the bigger battery.
When I got her the S8+ , I called and said now is the time to let me know.
Would you like for me to get you a S8 instead of a S8+

I've gotten used to the Bigger phone, the bigger screen, the bigger battery.
I want a S8+
It works great with the Planatronics M95 ear bud that I got at Best Buy.
Bring me my S8+.
I do not like the bixby button, I do not like bixby, I do like the curved display, I do not the annoying Samsung set up pop ups, I do not like the new peach background for messages, I do not like the like screen transition,I do not like that the bluetooth does not work with my plantronics device, i do not like that it is not resistant to weather or shock, I do not like the fact that screen protection is not available, I do not like all the Samsung packages that I will not use that consume memory and processing. There should be an opt out of Samsung packages, I do not like the settings navigation... Maybe I need to get use to it - I found the old set up more intuitive.
I am getting use to the virtual navigation buttons. I dunno if I like the side pop up panel yet, kind of annoying until I get used to it... Again an opt out of features would be nice
The S8 has some cool stuff...
I like the memory, I like the speed, I like the camera, I like the display.
I am glad my s5 is still around for backup.

It almost sounds like the G6 would have been a better fit. This is my first Samsung device. It's taken some getting used to. And yes, LG doesn't have all that crap in the background eating up RAM.
You know you can change that background in the messaging app, right?

It's right there in the settings. I don't know what carrier you're on and I don't know if any carriers block this option. For what ever reason, I know that happens sometimes.

About 24 hours in with my S8, and here are my initial thoughts. Love the ergonomics and how easy it is to use, very comfortable. The screen is amazing and I have mine set to the lowest performance setting. The battery seems to be good so far, but I need more time to assess it. No issues whatsoever with performance, no bugs, hiccups, stutters or lag. I'm disappointed the Apple Music app isn't compatible at the moment, I pay for the service I can't use. I'm on the family plan, so at least my family members get to use it. Overall, very satisfied. I still need more time, but no buyer's remorse at this point.

Turn off Samsung voice and use Google voice the texting that ways much better

That's really strange. It's this app below right? Wasn't sure if there were variants of it. Shows up available on my s8+

Maybe is a regional issue with the App, but remember, you are now using an Android, so you are not limited to what the Store allows you to download, just sideload the app from one of the most trusted websites (if not the most) for APK files available, go here to download, it should ask you to give temp permissions to install these apps this way.

I read earlier in this thread to make sure you are using Google Voice and not Samsung Voice as the former works better.
To change it to use google instead of samsung - settings>general management>language and iput>text to speech and make sure google is selected.
