S9's battery drains quickly, even on standby, when connected to wifi extender with great signal.

I received a Netgear Wifi Extender EX3110 and everything works great. Signal is enhanced and there's no problem connecting.

However, whenever my phone connects, my battery will drain very fast. Overnight, on standby, it will go from 50% to 6% in 7 hours. My phone is only 50' away from the extender and the signal is very high.

What could be the issue with the battery drain when connected to the extender?

Thanks, B. Diddy. I registered.

I'll take a look at the battery stats later but now know that this is an issue only when connected through 5ghz. I lost about 5%/hour on standby where's only 1% on the 2.4ghz.

Yes, Mustang. Today, I removed the 5Ghz wifi connection from my phone and have been fine. Not sure why that would be drawing so much more battery life since the extender is only 30-50' away and almost full bars.

Hi welcome ,
My guess is the 2.4ghz has better penetration through rooms and stuff

If there's anything, not only 'rooms and stuff', blocking the 5GHz signal, that would do it. (Anything conductive that's an odd multiple of 6cm [2.3622"] on one side could do it.)
