Sad battery life

A third party app is keeping your phone awake. Unfortunately this is a downside of the true multitasking android has.

so quick question, it looks like if google location services is turned off, even if GPS is on google maps can't locate my position. What's the use of keeping GPS on with location off?

Hmm. If I have just GPS on I do get a lock. It just takes longer.

Just thought I would share mine now.

I'm checking the better battery stats app and the first like 10 processes are named kworker. Anyone know what that is?

The above use is with light to moderate use on 3G all day, maximum brightness on screen

This second one is with Wi-Fi on, about 40% brightness. Based on these two, does it seem like keeping on Wi-Fi drains more battery life? I know these aren't exact comparisons, but 3G with max brightness beat Wi-Fi with decreased screen brightness. Hmmm.

Yep I confirmed what you said, I don't know why mine wasn't locating before :) thanks

At first glance my 44% after 12 hours doesn't look so bad, but after seeing that I only had 40 min screen on time today (I was busy at work today) I feel like I should be getting more time out of my extended battery. Dammit.

I live in an apartment where I don't get very good service (1-2 bars all times, 3G only) so i keep Wifi on at all times when I am home. I rely on e-mail and other instant messaging clients to keep in touch with people so I can't afford to not have data.

I'm at 42% after 12 hours of moderate use...for any Android phone (I've owned at least 6) I don't see how this kind of life is disappointing.

I have the GSM version, and I get 2 days with generally a nice chunk of battery left over. Last night I plugged it to charge, and it was at 2 days and like 8 hours with still 35% left. It had light to medium use over those days. Everyday stuff, like a few texts, a few voice calls, i streamed around 30 min of music from Google, watched a few youtube videos with my son about komodo dragons, some words with friends, a little cut the rope here and there, some facebook time. im still on version 4.01 right now.

i'm very happy with the battery life.

Wow do you happen to have a screen on time for your two days? I'm not sure if I have a skewed idea of what moderate use is but I can probably get MAYBE an hour of screen on time before I have to recharge, and that's being very conscious of how I use my phone, probably what I would call light use. I know people have been talking about getting up to 3-4 hours of screen on time without a charge and to me that is close to impossible. I'm just wondering if im doing something wrong or if I have a bad battery or something.

I'm in the same boat you are. I get just over an hour of screen on and I'm below 25% battery left. I have no idea how some of you get 3-4 hours screen on and over a day without recharging. That's just unheard of to me. I never got that with any of my Android devices (OG Droid, DInc, Dinc 2, Droid 3, Droid Bionic). I guess I just have too many widgets running. I know that facebook/twitter/talk eat up the battery, but they don't even show on battery usage.

Also, didn't there used to be an option to adjust how often Gmail would check for new mail? I can't find it now, it's sync or nothing.

That's what i'd like to know, with 2 days off the charger I think translates into using it as an alarm clock and keeping in your pocket for the rest of the day since I get phenomenal battery life too when I do that.

I'm getting about 2:30 hours screen time with 4% left on the standard battery, I can live with it just fine, it recharges plenty fast and with the extended battery I'd probably be around 3 hours... but I wouldn't mind a few extra hours of screen on time as seen with anandtech battery test results and their 5+ hours of screen on time, lol.

In my own testing I have found that apps are the reason of everyones battery woes.
When I was getting ~8 hours of battery life I started disabling widgets and uninstalling apps until I found what was ruining my battery life. I found the app that was keeping it awake after a few days and I killed it.

After that I started getting ~15 hours with moderate usage.

Recently I updated some apps and I'm having problems again so it looks like I'll have to figure out the problem once more.

FWIW I keep WIFI all the time, 3G on all the time (only turn 4G on if I don't have wifi).
Keep the screen on auto, and have apps/widgets set to update every hour/3 hours.

What apps did you find were killing your battery life? Do you not have any widgets running then?

With my previous phone (Droid Incredible) I found that Advanced Task Killer would greatly improve battery life.
On my GNex, I installed Advanced Task Killer in the first hour. I am getting great battery life on my GNex. I now also have the 2100mah battery, but I don't know that I needed it.
I would say that I am a light to moderate user. After about 12 hours, my battery is somewhere between 30-50% (on the 2100mah). That is without topping off the battery. I wanted to have some full drain/charge cycles on this new battery. Once that is done, I always top it off. When in my car, I charge. At my office, I charge, etc...

Prey Tracker was what I found to be killing my battery life. After I found that to be the problem I started getting great life.

When I was getting good battery life I had Beautiful Widgets, Glass News Widgets, Android Pro Widgets (Facebook), ESPN sportscenter widget, and Widgetsoid.

All running, all giving me ~15hours moderate usage. More than enough to get me through the day.

For the past two days, something started waking up my phone when the screen is off. I think it might be the Android Lost app that just updated. That, or my data/wifi keeps blinking between grey and blue. That might be the cause. Don't know yet.
