Samsung Cloud Going Away

I use the Microsoft 365 Family which is $99 or $9.99 per month for general consumer I think but being in Seattle area I get special pricing since I know many Microsoft folks
For family plan you can share up to 6 people and each one of them gets 1 TB of storage.

If there is a $6.99 per month plan that’s probably individual plan, I use the family plan.

I think family plan is the best value since I share it with my wife and you can share with other family members if you want. It’s only little more than individual plan.

Ah ok as soon as i get home i'll look up the Family plan since i do have 5 Android Phones on my account Thanks.

9.99 a month is still a awesome deal for 6 people to have there own 1TB

Yes I agree, and you also get the full office suite of apps along with 1 TB storage. Definitely a good deal.

I also have the Google One 200 GB subscription for $3 per month which I also share with family. Eventually once I cross 200 GB I’ll upgrade to 2TB storage for $9.99 per month.

Google One is still my main storage and Microsoft OneDrive is my backup.

You have options, personally I think Google, Microsoft or even Dropbox is a good option since it works on any device irrespective of OS who makes the device etc. That’s very important for me to even consider a service, free or paid.

Well Thanks The Microsoft one probably be my best option since we all use Microsoft for most of our stuff i'll make my son pay half of that 9.99 lol

What about Notes? Will we be forced to use OneNote? This is my 1st Note device & I'm liking the Spen integration. I know syncing Notes to OneNote is coming later this year for PC use, but what about mobile use long term?

Yes, when I was backing up Note 10 plus for switchover to Note 20 Ultra, Samsung Cloud tried to get me to use Microsoft OneDrive, but it would not activate. Bummed if Microsoft will only offer 5GB for free, but Samsung Cloud has 15GB for free.

Question for you guys that use one drive over Samsung cloud , does it back up ,call logs, messages, photos, home screen settings, apps data, settings ?
How much storage do they give compared Samsung 15gb free ?

If Samsung switches over to OneDrive completely I'm sure it'll backup all those things. Currently OneDrive you can use to back up photos just like Google photos. As far as free storage I think it's 5 GB free. Between 5 or 15 GB I don't see how it makes that big of a difference, sure 15 GB is better than having 5 GB but either way you will have to pay for some storage service like OneDrive, Google one, Samsung cloud, iCloud or whatever cloud service you prefer. Since the free tiers on any of them aren't going to cut IMO. And also if they completely switch over to OneDrive instead of Samsung cloud, I could easily see them offer the same 15 GB free tier exclusively for Samsung phones.

Personally speaking I'm not that worried about app, settings, home screen backups etc so Samsung cloud isn't attractive for me and anyway it's only for Samsung phones which is non starter. I just use built in android backup since it'll at least work across Android phones. For me main thing is photos backup which Google photos and OneDrive does the job along with prime photos as third backup. For messages, it's WhatsApp or Messenger which have their own cloud backups.
Call logs etc are anyway covered by Android backup. Home screen backup if needed I can use Nova launcher etc and can backup, but honestly I don't care and take less than 5 minutes to set up my home screen on a new device.

As a Verizon customer I can't use Samsung cloud. Lol

Carriers blocking it might be a part of the reason they're getting rid of it. Besides why use OneDrive when Google provides 15Gb?

I am sure going to miss being able to back up my pictures to OneDrive as I take them, though. Has anyone found a work around to allow your pictures to be stored or backed up to One Drive in real time while still storing your pictures on your SD card? I have another family member that experienced the same thing. Once you combine your Samsung and OneDrive account, Microsoft will NOT allow you to include your SD card in your gallery back ups. He also had to undo this integration in order to return to backing up his pictures to OneDrive automatically as he takes them.

Also, this is the forum post that helped me figure out why my pictures stopped being able to back up to OneDrive as I took them:

Called Samsung yesterday about having a problems with notifications on my Note 20 Ultra..Was told to start moving data to OneDrive because will will be getting a notice soon the Samsung Cloud is going away.Has anyone else hear of this?????

I didn't hear this, however during the setup of a new phone. It asked if you want to migrate all of the Sammy Cloud to One Drive. Since I already have a premium service with MS, so I switched.

Yes, just install ONEDRIVE App. And make it default. All of your data will get back up there. I enable only when I get home so WIFI will do all the heavy lifting. I disable google drive.

Because 15 GB isn't enough anyway for most people. And some people prefer one company over other for various reasons. I personally prefer Google and is my primary backup followed by Microsoft overdrive.
In either case you would eventually have to pay for additional storage since the free tiers of 5 or 10 or 15 GB isn't going cut in the long run. Especially the 15 GB is across all google services. Honestly Google one for 200 GB is like $3 per month which is like one coffee cost.

Not looking forward to one drive , hopefully they keep samsung cloud .

I have my own Synology NAS setup (4TB) which auto backups photos and videos from all our family members phones, even when we are outside. I rely on samsung backup only for call logs, messages and samsung notes backup.

I was thinking about something like that as well
