Samsung ditching Tizen for Wear OS?

Just read the rumour that Samsung's next smartwatch is going to be running Android Wear OS! it's been tweeted by IceUniverse and reported on SamMobile!

Hope this doesn't mean they ditch us Samsung Watch 3 owners and at least let us update to Wear OS or that will be me done with Samsung!

Samsung has been following apples business practices for awhile now. Why not do this, then we can all buy new watches again, more money for samsung. I am sure it won't be immediate, but phase out is probably coming.

I have been checking iPhones out last couple releases, after all samsung and apple are getting closer and closer to being similar. One of the things that stop me is I don't want to have to get a iphone and a iwatch. If I get forced to change watches, one more reason gone for me not getting a iphone. I wish samsung would stop doing these things.

Samsung has had Wear OS (Watch Live) and the Galaxy Gear out at the same time. It might just be to satisfy that part of the market that wants an Android watch.

I would have loved a Samsung Android watch. In the end I didn't find what I needed and bought an Apple Watch Series 6

I'm waiting on delivery of GW3 I ordered on 2/13, delayed due to weather.

Not sure what effect this news will have, guess it's a wait and see.

Personally, I'd prefer they get rid of Tizen as well as all the bloatware.

Stop reading the news and enjoy your watch, This is my 4th Samsung watch and it is by far the best. I'm thoroughly enjoying it.

It should not have any effect, after all, it is only a rumor. besides, even if true, nothing will change for the older watches. Not like they will be changing the operating system on you.

Never say Never The original Galaxy Gear was released with Android but after they created Tizen they offered a firmware update to Tizen. If they were to go Android Wear and deprecate Tizen, which they wont, they might offer the change just to reduce support costs.

The galaxy watch 3 doesn't have enough performance to support wear os.

Just curious, why specifically do you say this? I don't believe that wear OS is that much more complex than Tizen.

I hope it's true... app support on tizen os sucks big time... i had almost all Samsung watches and still have them and the gear live was the best with wear os on it. Not saying tizen sucks but developer's doesn't seem to care about it

Gear, Gear S2, Gear Live and Watch 3. I feel that the Gear Live Wear OS implementation is cartoonish. Give me the Watch3 and even the Gear 2 any day.

Google hasn't ever really committed to pushing their wearable OS in the past, but with their Fitbit acquisition having finally been completed a couple of months back, there's hope it represents their applying a little focus towards the same. If there's truth to the Samsung rumor, it could lend credence towards that as well.
