Samsung Epic EB13 (Froyo) Bugs

Sounds like you need to hard reset... Also back up your SD card and format it then restore all the data to it...

The lag issue is not the phone really as the card its a SLOW POS dump it and get a class 4 or higher i have a class 6 and anything that deals with the media card is a hell of a lot faster I never get the recording failed error after that also all the photos load a lot faster too...

Hope this helps ya...

issues/gripes i'm seeing:
-GPS sucks. It's taking even longer to lock on. Best i ever could get was a location that was 2 miles away from my actual point. Mind you, i was on the top floor of my parking garage and open skies.

-Phone Log - Before, it would only show the actual call logs. missed, dialed, etc. Now it's including every text/sms message in the log.

-Speaker phone is a lot quieter now. I'm hard of hearing and i use my speaker phone.. now i can barely use the speaker phone

-Gmail - After I send a messaage, still after 2-3 minutes it still says sending. but if i go out of gmail and back in, it's refreshed along with new inbound messages.

-Gmail notifications. This one is HUGE for me. Being hard of hearing, i rely on ALL vibrations for notifications. Gmail is now broke.

-Random vibrations. Every once in a while, my phone will vibrate for a half second, but no notifications or anything. Ghost vibrations.

-Gallery - really, insanely SLOW. Sometimes it's fine, 80% of the time it's "reading the SD card". i have 14 gb free, apps are not saved on it, and only has 300 pics. my 3 year old Blackberry Curve is faster than this with it's 1gb internal memory SD card. :)

This is a stock phone.

End Rant.

WOW, the lock screen issue is huge.... why isn't that front page news?? I hope Samy and Sprint are working on a BIG fix. so far that is the only issue I have, swapped Kernels and now the camera is working great!!!

I know kinda crazy i even reported this issue to sprint and samsung not a word back...

I've still got the video camera bug...haven't found new ones but I managed to fix a LOT of them by just doing a factory wipe in Clockwork 3. I also unmounted the SD card and remounted it. That seemed to fix most of the bugs.

Reformatting the SD card does NOT fix the Camera bug, however.

I am getting some wierd haptic feedback at times when the phone should not be vibrating, usually before a program crashes- and there are a few that are crashing regularly - Live Holdem, Media Hub and App Market are three that just stink up the joint with Froyo. Ia m aware that mediahub and app market are having their own issues independent of the operating system.

Anyone having issues with Sound levels (especially the incoming ring volume) since updating to 2.2 have you found a solution for it yet?

Reformatting the SD card does NOT fix the Camera bug, however.

I found that replacing the memory card with a class 6 stopped all my errors with the cam app if i put the samsung class 2 back in they come back... Try a faster memory card and that just may help did for me... and some others have reported the same to me...

Hi every body. Im new here on the forums and this is my first post. I've just received my update over the air 2/22/11 and want to share my experience and also hope to receive some feed back as well. I will list all of the bugs that I am having and explain them to the best of my ability.

1. Bluetooth audio streaming is very choppy. I know for a fact that it is not my earphones that are the problem because they work great on my blackberry 8900, my ps3 and also worked like a dream on my epic when I was on stock 2.1

2. Video recording quality has signifantly decreased. Everything works fine until recording in low light situations examples being night time at the beach and dim lighting in my apartment. Video recording goes from about 30 frames to about a whopping 5 frames per second! Again this worked great when on 2.1.

3. Random force closes when using live wallpapers. This happens with stock wall papers as well as the ones that I get from the market. Sometimes the phone reverts to stock wallpaper relaunching touchwhiz in the process.

4. Headphone jack randomly stops working. For instance if I move the phone any kind of way while listining to music (sliding open to use the keypad) sound comes pouring out of the speakers. Thoes headphones also work great with all other devices and worked great with this one before the update.

5. Random force closes when using certain apps. When searching for a specific topic using the xda app (EB13 bugs) I get a forced close. This also happens on other apps that worked fine without froyo.

6. Double tap to zoom does not work well with stock browser.

There are many more bugs that I can't remember right now but I will report back to this thread when I find them again I will also report back when I find fixes for the bugs listed, I will also appreciate advice on fixes. By the way I'm completely stock and never been rooted.

Edit..

7. There is a loud random aduible pop that comes from the front earpiece speaker that was not there before.

8. Data connection randomly times out. This happens mostly when I'm using 4g. Whenever I'm downloading or updating several apps at a time from the
market I get a random and extremely inconvient data time out (4Gzzz).

I did a factory reset last night :-(
And bluetooth audio streaming is not as choppy as before but there is an occasional hiccup. But not nearly as bad as before.

9. I am also getting a slight lag on the hardware key board.

using a faster SD card doesnt make sense. it was working fine before the update went in and gallery was snappy as hell. it spends more time reading the files than trying to display them.

another weird thing.. after my phone powered itself down due to battery power, it vibrated several times on it's own. 5 mins after the phone was powered off, it let off a 2 second vibration. 4 mins later, it did it again.

this update is horrible. bad sprint! bad samsung! THUMBS DOWN!

WiFi Won't Turn On / Error

I had the same problem. It was fine when I first downloaded the update, then yesterday I noticed the same thing when I went to turn wifi on. When I went into wifi settings to turn it on it said "error" as the status

Doesn't sound like a common problem (nobody is talking about it), but it's the only issue I'm having (I did a hard reset from TER 1.5 with Sammy's app). So bad that the WiFi Settings screen will just say error after attempting to turn on a number of times. I often have to restart the phone. I had this same issue in TER 1.5 as well.

Anybody have a solution? For those with the problem, are you rooted and do you have the tether app installed? I only see this problem when trying to turn WiFi back on after I have turned it off (when I know there are no access points around, etc.).

Welcome to thee forums you will find a lot of help here and answers to most of your probs here...

Not sure why you got the OTA it has been pulled far as i know because of probs like your talking about in your post a lot of people had to hard reset there phones after OTA updates...

There is a file you can get from samsung called update.zip that's the method that works for most people try rebooting and see if that helps maybe killing some open apps but you may be looking at a hard reset (sorry to say) I know it kind of a pain but starting fresh is some times the best thing to do...

Hope this helps Also you may try removing your memory card backing up all data on it format it then put your data back on it and put it back in your phone this also helps a lot of people...

First of all Sounds like your phone is not properly shutting down did you receive the OTA update? or did you Update.Zip it?

Ranting about it wont help :P (no Pun) I am telling you from my own experience the faster memory card helped a lot with loading media before i replaced my memory card 2.1 and 2.2 loaded pics about the same speed...

Far as shutting down and so on You have something hanging up some place would be my guess....

You can also try to Back up all your memory card data format it then restore the backed up data...

You may just have to bite the bullet and hard reset your phone...

Also, when playing a flash video/audio in-browser (Dolphin HD mini), the audio is slowed down and therefore makes the pitch level drop (makes women sound like men).

I am experiencing this same audio issue with flash video, though I've seen little mention of it. Anyone have a solution?

Edit: It doesn't matter what browser I use, this issue is not browser-specific

My Epic 4G with stock EB13 with stock rom and kernel - only thing that has been done is rooted with Clockworkmod v2.5.5 works almost perfect which means that all works except the Camera/Recoder Bug (although there is a patch to fix it that I have not applied yet), rotation lag (fixed)

I may have found a new bug - searched all over and couldn't find a fix or answer why.

I have an app called Movie, when you open it, it says Flixster, I used to be able to play movie trailers, and now I can't - I have upgraded and downgraded the app have uninstalled and reinstalled with no success.

I also have my identical setup on my perfectly working backup Samsung Moment, and when I use the same app(s), it works fine.

My Epic also seems to somewhat break Docs2Go - by that I mean, there is a tab that says show starred files - when you go to that tab it doesn't show them and yet on my Samsung Moment backup phone it works.

Could the Flash that was in EB13 froyo 2.2.1 have been the cause of the not being able to play the trailers in the app Movie/Flixster?

Can anyone with either or both of those apps verify that the are glitched? Or is it just my Epic? Cause my Moment with eclair 2.1 and my Epic when it was on eclair 2.1 both rooted and non rooted worked!

Thanks!

Funny. With Eclair, my GPS always worked perfectly and now with Froyo- it's like it's dead. I can turn it on in Notifications but it never goes on and I never get an icon for it. Anyone else? Any solutions?

I only get the icon on taskbar if its ACTIVELY doing something. I turn it on no icon, but if I open maps, or use google places I see it pop up and pulse.

ya same here gps worked before froyo and after no probs what so ever

i'm running stock froyo via the update.zip method. The only thing I did was update the kernel to fix the camera issue. since the update, i've had a consistent wifi problem. It will show as connected, however the internet will work intermittently. It is so bad that using wifi is pretty much unusable as anything i'm streaming or download will just stop and eventually time out. This issue started the day i upgraded. I've scoured the forum, but can't find anyone else that has this problem. Any ideas?

Dumb Question about Formatting SD Card

I'm not having any major issues with the update, but I thought that maybe I should try some of the trouble shooting steps to clear up the minor gliches. I thought that I'd try formatting the SD card first. The problem is, I don't really know how to do it.

My inclination is to take the SD card out, hook it up to a PC, and copy/paste the entire card to a folder on the PC. Then right click on the card and click format. After it has been formatted, simply copy the folder back to the card. Then put the card back in the phone and fire it up.

Surely that is not what I am supposed to do. What would that gain me?

If not, and I suspect that this is not what I should do, then how exactly do I "format" the SD card?

Go to "settings" "SD Card and Phone Storage" Unmount SD card and then format.
