Just got off the phone wiht Samsung. They said the phone will ship sometimes this week. The phone order is being fulfilled whatever that means. About to cancel.
I called them this morning, since last friday my cancel button has been gone. I'd expected it to ship out Tuesday and when it didnt then I called thos morning. She said that it should ship withing the next few days. And then I'll get it 48 hours after. I told her I wanted to cancel and that I'd buy it somewhere else but she said it was too late. So it looks like itll possibly be here by Monday? Lol I dont even care anymore. I'm so done with this.
If we al sit to think about it, Samsung is actually being very smart. Gauge demand based on pre-orders, they can start production based on pre-order numbers and that way, they don't invest more than necessary on inventory that may be slow to move and will end up costing them more to warehouse/store.
They took a gamble on everyone wanting the lower cost, 128gb model and they lost the gamble - at least momentarily (more on his in a sec). Now they can order the 512GB variants based on known demand and know they won't have to sit on them. Those that opted not to wait are now picking up the 128GB variants that Samsung feared it would have to sit on so... win-win for Samsung!
What is truly crappy is the nonchalant attitude of not even offering an official explanation or apology for their mis-step. However even this kind of makes sense because although they know customers are rising and picking up the pitch forks, it will all settle down and be forgotten when their phones arrive. Even those that went ahead and cancelled are a non-issue because they just went and picked one up through a carrier or another vendor so what did Samsung lose? Nothing.
Will this happen again? Of course! When the S10 debuts next year, Samsung knows that many of us will run back and get in line, anxious to trade in our yesterday's-news Note 9's for that shiny, new S10.

That's why I bought the international duos note 8 with 256gb, I also wanted dual sim. Sucks though with the Chinese language and samsung pay is for China. Bought.it when I was in Hong kong.I don’t believe they would start production based on pre-orders. If they did that, there would even be fewer phones out there to satisfy global demand and different versions of the phone. That being said, I’ve always read that in the past, higher capacity models never made it to the US because retailers did not want to devote the warehouse and shelf space to models they did not think would sell. So, I’m sure they had low expectations for the 512 model in the US.
It’s been so long since I preordered my 128 that I literally have been forgetting that I ordered it.
I agree with you but it doesn't make it okay for a manufacturer to do this "every year."
Sounds like somebody is here just to stir the pot. Aside with what has already been said about inaccurate info being told by Samsung, and then the lack of info that follows, from experience this isn't exclusive to just phones with Samsung. They've done this other products, too. There's software out there already Samsung could be utilizing to get things done from the start. Why tell customers their orders will ship "week of Aug 23" when they know they've sold out of the product available to ship that date? If they have 5,000 widgets available, the order for widget 5,001 and beyond should automatically show back-ordered, expected shop date of MM/DD. Instead, we'r have to call customer support in order to get into, that is wrong from the start, but they don't know it. When an order is placed it should automatically be tagged to product # xxxx out of xxxxxxx out of pallet # xxx. The order I placed on the evening of 8/19 should've never shown "shipping week of 8/23 because the product was never available to fulfill my order. As i said earlier, the software exists already, so it's not like I'm asking for the wheel to be reinvented.
Furthermore, the longer this goes on the more I suspect the flat sales for S9/S9+ phones have more to do with lost customers due to crappy customer service and less with the fact the S9/S9+ was a mildly updated S8/S8+. Google, Mictosoft, Motorola, LG, and Huawei don't make bad phones. There's lots of competition in the android-based phone market for disgruntled Samsung customers to wander over to in search of better customer service.
I'm interested in the sales figures myself. IMO they might not be as good as foretasted still. The 512gb might be doing better than expected but the 128gb might be having terrible sales since there doesn't seem to be stock issues with that or the unlocked version very much. They might have only made a small number of 512gb so any increase in demand might have screwed it up.
Those phones minus Huawei are below Samsung imo. Huawei makes some beast phones though, especially the Porsche editions and the stuff they release in Asia. If they were to become mainstream in North America and the same beefy phones they certainly would give Samsung a serious run.
They were banned by the DoD

And I think 128gb sales are doing just fine seeing how people are going to that after the 1+ month of backorder for the 512gb.
The more I think about it the whole government and Huawei think I think is to allows less competitors for Samsung and Apple. The whole spying thing is BS. Hell, the NSA can spy on any of us and listen to our calls and see our emails.

Under the Due Process of Law codified in the Bill of Rights, they'd need a warrant for that. A warrant isn't being granted without probable cause. Portions of the Patriot Act that allowed blanket surveillance were ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court during the Obama Administration.
We're getting off topic again. Can we get back on topic?
Doesnt help that this is one of the priciest phones made so you have a LOT of money tied up in the phone that's currently in a twilight zone somewhere. Yeah. I'd be pretty ticked too. I didnt read back on the thread, but I'm assuming you ordered the larger 512 version? Its more the fact with me there are no communications, no information, nothing unless you start it your self and then it's wrong or a lie. Dont see why I opted for order updates to be texted to me when there are no updates. After 20+ days no updates. Even there app and site cant seem to know if it's in preorder or backorder (each reports the opposite). And it's not anxiety... it just pisses me off.
