"Hi. i just got a verizon samsung 4s i545 from a friend. i have at&t and want to stay with them. if i buy an at&t micro sim put it in my verizon s4 will i be able to either change or add an APN to the phone? right now, if i go to add one it will not let me. most of the settings are grey blocked. "

No.
Att & tmobile networks are gsm standard, Verison and Sprint are cdma.
It would be like trying to make a windows program run on a commodore64.
I would have said windows-apple, but there are emulators that allow windows programs to work on apple and vice versa, but no such thing for GSM/CDMA.

Re: Samsung Galaxy S4 APN Straight Talk settings HELP

Ok....Here's a new one. I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini. Model GT-I9195 I'm trying to use Straight Talk....and like many others, I can send a text but not picture mail. If anyone has this phone and has a suggestion about APN settings....it would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks

Did anyone with a GT-I9195 find any settings that worked? I have tried everything I can find

Re: Samsung Galaxy S4 APN Straight Talk settings HELP

I put these settings in and it gives me Edge2 network not 4G or LTE

Re: Samsung Galaxy S4 APN Straight Talk settings HELP

delete hangouts this stops the mms from coming through

Which APN settings did you find to be successful?

I have tried everything I can find on the web, so far nothing has worked. I have a Verizon S4, on Straight Talk, with an ATT sim just as you mentioned you did. One thing worth noting it the Verizon APN is gray, and i can not open or edit it. I'm able to add as many APN's as I wish in addition to the stock Verizon one, and select them for use, so i was hoping you may have more successful settings that I could try.

You can only edit the Verizon apn with a Verizon sim in the phone

So i should put in my Verizon sim, edit the APN for Verizon, and add the settings for Straight Talk to that entry, is that correct?

If so, that would be what I was doing wrong. I spent a good bit of my weekend trying to figure this out. While i learned a ton about rooting, roms, and how the android system works, I wasn't able to solve my issue.

When you put in the ST SIM, add the apn for st.

Right, I had done that, and it was not working with any of the dozens of different settings I've found online for this phone. I was concerned that having the other entry for the default Verizon APN may be causing the issue.

I have another android phone which is working on ST, but it's a Google Nexus 5. I even tried to use the same settings from that known working setup, with no luck. The Nexus is mine, and the S4 is the girlfriend's phone. I'd convinced her that ST was much better, cheaper, and easier...which is proving to be wrong on the easier part of that. Should i be deleting the Verizon APN, if possible, once the card is inserted for Verizon? Would that be an issue to have it as an additional entry? I was also curious to find out what Samantha Timmons is using for the APN settings, if they were different from what else is posted here.

On my Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II & 3,I just added the tmobile apn when I was trying a tmobile sim. I left the Verizon apn alone. ST should be similar, not sure why it isn't working for you. Can ST give you another sim? Also, are you in gsm mode?

Yes, I think so. I have it set to "Global", and i verified the phone was unlocked with Verizon. All roads lead back to the sim card. I have a spare, so i'll see about swapping to it to see if that resolves the issue.

Thanks to everyone, I truly appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions.

Following up on the issue i've been having:

phone info:
Samsung Galaxy S 4 (Verizon)
sch-i545 model

I called Straight Talk, they checked all of my settings, and APN configuration, and everything checked out.

The issue ended up being that I need a specific sim card, and both of the cards they had sent were for the wrong network. They are now sending a Verizon compatible sim, which they say will solve the issues with no data connection.

I'll update this once that happens, and give the results. Hopefully it will help someone else like myself in the future to know this info.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 on Straight Talk. I have everything working and the steps were simple. Just adding 4 lines into APN settings. Straight talk walked me through it. You can email me at BrianMBrunelle at hot mail dot com and I'll send you the APN settings (apparently I cant type in certain fields into this help section because technically they are "links" and I have to put up ten posts before I can post a link I guess.

But glad to help anyway.

Re: Samsung Galaxy S4 APN Straight Talk settings HELP

I also have the GT-i9195. I have called STraight Talk. After hours on the phone troubleshooting, they referred me to the manufacturer. Samsung then informed me that since it is a UK version that some features may not work in the USA. That is were I am at right now. Everything works great except that I cannot receive picture messages. My internet is super fast, I can send picture messages great, I just can't receive??
I have tried dozens of different settings. I cannot delete 'hangout's', I just don't know what to do next?? I'm about to send it back to Amazon!
