Good day, is there a way to set up my email (not gmail) to only download automatically over wifi? I receive a lot of work emails and it uses data unnecessarily when it downloads on my phone when I am at work. Ideal will be to only download when I change the setting. Don't want to turn of data completely because then all the other apps stop working too (WhatsApp, facebook etc.)
Please help.
Thank you.

Welcome to Android Central!

I was looking in the Play Store for you for an app/utility that would only sync email on an WiFi network. Nothing I saw seemed to have that feature. It looks like you may need to enable/disable syncing manually through the Notifications panel:

Hopefully, one of our gurus may drop in and have an alternative.

There's a an app called Synker:

That lets you sync only specific things using a widget. So you can just use that to put a widget on your home screen to sync only your email when you want. However, the awesome part about it is it works as a Tasker/Locale plug-in, so you can control it through automation programs like Tasker and, IIRC, Llama. I personally hvaen't used Llama, but my understanding is that it's free, easier to use for simple things than Tasker and more battery friendly than Tasker.

What I would do is download Synker to make sure it will work with your email the way you want. Then dowload Llama:

And set it to sync your email at some interval you want but only when your'e on WiFi. Again, I haven't used it to confirm this works that way, but my understanding is that that's the sort of thing it's designed for. I know this will work in Tasker, but that's a pay app and from what I understand, it's more difficult to learn than Llama. It's also quite a bit more powerful, but if you don't care about that then Llama is probably a better choice.

Currently I am manually turning on and off the sync option as required, I will most certainly try this suggestion. Thank you.

I use K9 mail & you can change the download settings :)
