Samsung Galaxy S4 keeps dimming the screen for no reason. Any help?

holy moly!! I cannot believe that I have spent weeks trying to figure this out and it was that tiny checkmark on the right side of the brightness lever switch that was making me want to cry all this time! I thought it was my marshmallow update. just checked "off" auto brightness and all is good with the world now.

In my experience with Android, just get used to going back into settings periodically to turn the display brightness "Automatic Brightness" back off. It appears that updates periodically default it back to On, no matter how the user has set it. I've had to do it repeatedly both with my phone and my wife's. I also work for a technical help desk that supports Apple devices and they do things like that in updates as well. There is apparently an attitude among programmers today, that user preferences are irrelevant and that the developer knows better. I've been in tech support for nearly 30 years and I'd like to take those idiots out back and beat them with a bat, but it's the world we live in. Don't get me started on how many times I've had to go find the weather app to put it back on my wife's phone because it vanished while she was just trying to handle the phone. These guys have never heard of a confirmation prompt!
