Samsung Galaxy S6 vs. HTC One M9

Re: M9 VS S6

I wish more companies would do a dark theme. I am trying to warm up to touchwiz. But it is so oversaturated and bright but needs to be understated.

Re: M9 VS S6

Just a thing I saw on the m9 hands on from techno buffalo: a system update notification appeared.
Camera tweaks anyone?

Re: M9 VS S6

Agreed. I would think of getting an s6 if there's a dark theme option.

Re: M9 VS S6

Tough to say since most tech blogs have their hands on pre-production models (and many have made it an emphasis to let their readers know). That said you would think HTC would have had the camera software developed a lot more than what they are showing. And even with that I also question their decision to go with a Toshiba built camera.

You don't want to flop during the one time of year that you have all eyes on your top product and that unfortunately is what has happened to them. I'm willing to give them a chance because I have been considering getting an HTC One for a while now, but I'm not sold on what I saw today.

As for the S6 I liked what I saw. Still hesitant to go with a Touchwiz device though, so I'll wait for reviews for it before going with an S6. But what I do like is that despite doing away with microSD support they did bring new storage tech with USF 2.0. While the overall design language remains the same I think they've refined it to the point where it is likable. Yes, its a bit too much like the iPhone in some aspects, but I'll give them credit for finally listening to what everyone had been saying about the materials they were using for their flagship devices.

Also intrigued to see how their new Exynos processor performs since they'll be shipping it out everywhere, now that they decided to go away from Snapdragon processors. If, and big if here, they are smart they'll use this to their advantage to optimize the performance of their device since its a homebrew processor.

Re: M9 VS S6

The Galaxy made the biggest jump by far but what they jumped to isn't that different than the M9 (except for the Edge variant) because the previous Galaxy design was so far behind the M9.

Comparing the M9 to the S6 now, without regard to what they were before, they seem to be very comparable now.

Re: S6 or M9

Now you are going to get the Note 5 with the Exynos.... SMH.

Someone tell me the actual problem with the Exynos ?????

Lol there's a part of me that hates this phone but there's another that loves it. Realistically I have never tried this version of exynos and as such I'll leave final judgement until then .

As I said apps were very laggy or wasn't compatible with the device with exynos compared to my phone which had the snapdragon cpu inside .

Re: M9 VS S6

I'll have to see them first hand before I make up my mind but as of now, I'm leaning toward the S6.

Re: S6 or M9

I'm not in the market for either but in my opinion there is no contest. The M9 was a huge disappointment and the S6 makes me wish I was in the market for a new smartphone right now.

I'm using 9.5gb on a 1+ year nexus 5 and still get through a day with the nexus 5 battery so the lack of SD cards and removable battery is a non-issue for me.

The S6 looks great and will probably have a much better camera than the M9. I am just hoping that Samsung continues making normal versions of their phones in the future (not just the edge versions) because I really don't like the S6 edge.

What apps weren't compatible? Because half my devices have Exynos and every app I've tried that works on my Snapdragon devices work on my Exynos devices.

I don't remember since I have since sold them but I remember the Amex app didn't work for tablets at least ...few others but don't remember them

That could also have been due to screen resolution too. I have several apps that won't work on any of my phones with greater than a 1080p screen resolution. The devs need to get with the program, I'm looking at you EA.

Then they won't work with with s6 with its 2k screen. I haven't ran into that issue with ea or anybody on my note 4 which does have the Qualcomm cpu inside

That is true indeed. I'm sure EA updates their more mainstream titles but perhaps not the ones I'm interested in.

I will never buy a Samsung phone. The M9 is a nice evolutionary step. We will have to wait for final judgement about the camera though.

Had a Samsung once.. Never again... Currently have the LG G3 but the M9 is something I'm looking at. Bought the G3 in full didn't sign up for JUMP on T Mobile because I want to switch when I want to. Also will be the last time I purchase a phone directly from a carrier (bloatware)

Re: M9 VS S6

Perhaps a dumb question, but the M9 won't have the multi-window multitasking feature, right? The S6 will/does?

I have an M7 phone but recently got a Galaxy tablet and I love that split-screen. Very useful feature. I generally like what I'm seeing out of the M9 but if S6 has that and the M9 doesn't, that's a "tick" in the S6 column.

Re: S6 or M9

What an interesting day...

I never thought I'd be left with such a difficult decision prior to the two reveals. As an M7 owner, the only complaint I had was the camera (which suffered the green/blue/red tint problem AFTER my warranty expired). Aside from that, it's still a terrific phone and I just knew I'd be staying in the HTC camp after the announcement of the remedy (20MP camera and 4UP front faced: Perfect combo). The future isn't looking as clear anymore.

What I gathered from the HTC Event and following press previews:
-- 20MP back shooter may be a disappointment (will have to wait for release build reviews) with NO IOS.
-- 4UP front shooter is the champ.
-- Nothing really new or exciting.
-- Oddly enough, haven't heard a dang thing on the quality of the front facers and Dolby enhancements.

What I gathered from Sammy event and following press previews:
-- Great new camera tech and IOS.
-- Samsung Pay looks interesting (I use Google Pay whenever I can: Rarely).
-- Beautiful Phone (At the unfortunate sacrifice of expandable storage. I'd don't care about replaceable battery).
-- While lighter, I'm still not fond of TouchWiz.

So, to answer your question: Do I want...
A) Great speakers, the best front facing camera, and unobtrusive UI, but poor rear camera performance and an unexciting incremental iteration or...
B) Split screen capabilities, alternative credit card payment option, and great front and back cameras, but assuredly poor speaker quality and position, lack of expandable storage, and an undesirable UI?

Truthfully, I think I'm currently leaning ever so slightly towards the latter. I suppose I have to March/April to decide. Bring on the reviews.

/////////////////SideNote///////////////////////
I see an ongoing debate regarding the importance of front facing speakers (FFS). I'd have to say that FFS don't matter as much as stereo FFS. I've yet to hear a single speaker type phone impress me (they actually hurt my ears: High pitched). Boomsound speakers have been the only phone speakers to sound pleasing to me. They also are positioned so that they never are obscured by my fingers, which I appreciate. That's my two cents.

I had the M7 and M8 and loved the FFS. Too bad Sammy doesn't have the same type of FFS - now that would be nice!

And I'm torn between the two as well.

Personally, I'm not overly impressed with either, but for choice's sake, M9 here. I just don't get the hype over the S6. TouchWiz is more colorful, yes, but that's about it. There are still those hideous icons to deal with. The UI is just ugly, imho. The glass on both sides makes the phone beg to be dropped, case or not. It's an absolute finger print magnet. This, coupled with the fact that they took away their two major selling points? I don't get it. A 2,550 mAh non-removable battery and no SD slot? All I see here is a shiny turd, frankly.

I'm not impressed with the M9 design at all. Pink, really? On the software side, it seems to run quite fast and fluid, but the suggested apps folder is just weird and leaves a user open to spam. I don't care for the Yelp integration and "The Morning Bundle" etc. The duo-tone is pointless to me.

I do like the fact that you can customize the theme to your taste, and I also like the fact that you can customize the soft keys. Other than that, the speakers and SD card slot are selling points to me. I'd buy it if ever there was to be a GPE with the Sense features I mentioned as part of it, but otherwise I'll be looking forward to Motorola next.

Re: M9 VS S6

I've had both a Samsung tablet and a Samsung phone and in my personal opinion the split screen functionality on the phone is drastically less useful then it is on a tablet.
