Samsung Note 3: "Prevention Information" Message

Re: Samsung Note 3 "Prevention Information" Message

Adding on with T-Mobile Note 3 screen shot, we have a "settings" option in our notice. Wouldn't it be wonderful if instead of saying "An application" they just used the actual name of the offending application?

Yes, it most certainly would. I'm sure someone will tell you it's the Knox app after long-pressing the notification and tapping the "App Info" button, but of course, that's wrong.

The "App Info" button tells you the name of the app posting the notification (which we know is the Knox app), not the name of the app which Knox has flagged, but very rudely refuses to identify as anything other than "an app".

Very poor form, Samsung!

Re: Samsung Note 3 "Prevention Information" Message

Guys, thanks for the tips to reproduce the issue. I checked KNOX under the app manager and noticed a bunch of apps relying on it. Most of them were "system" apps that came with the phone. So I didn't see anything unusual. Except for one that I don't consider "system" app: Facebook. Yep. So I uninstalled it. Then I turned off and turned on wifi and the Prevention Message didn't come up again!!

I have an AT&T Galaxy Note 3 since the day it came out. Never rooted. I occasionally use Facebook and had it installed since day one. I don't know if it was updated in the last 48 hours or not.

To clarify, under the Application manager, there are KLMS Agent, KNOX, Knox Notification Manager and KNOX Store, all that seem to be KNOX related. The one that pops up is the Knox Notification Manager. This is the one that you can request the App Info by pressing on it for a second or two. Then scroll all the way down to look under the Permissions section. At the bottom there is a list of app relying on KNOX or being affected by KNOX. Again, I apologize in advance for the lack of accurate terms used to explain what KNOX does to your phone.

i was wrong the s health thing it worked for about a half hour and now its back. this is extremely frustrating

Re: Samsung Note 3 "Prevention Information" Message

I am wondering if poor programming is the result of tripping KNOX and KNOX is pretty much doing its job by reporting suspicious activity for the problematic app?

Re: Samsung Note 3 "Prevention Information" Message

To all, please see if you have Facebook on your phone. If you do, uninstall it and reproduce the issue by turning off and on wifi. The KNOX notification will come right up if it's still a problem.

Interestingly enough, it would be good to know if some users have that issue without using wifi at all.

Re: Samsung Note 3 "Prevention Information" Message

i have facebook on my note 3 i uninstalled it and restarted my phone and the notification came right back so its not a facebook issue i wouldnt think

Arrrgh.... no bueno. It worked for me and it's been consistent. Let me reinstall Facebook and see if it trips it again. Thanks for your help!

Re: Samsung Note 3 "Prevention Information" Message

I've been getting this message for the last 2 weeks. I know it wasn't Knox as I never installed it. The only time it pops up is when I turn on WiFi. No other time. I don't use the Facebook app so it's not that. :'(

Problem is being reported all over the place. I'm not sure how true this is...http://www.sammobile.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13166

The SEAndroid is a new behavioral malware detection system for Androids that uses machine learning.
Either you have introduced some mal ware through your custom software or you have led the SEAndroid detection to think that malware is trying to get installed.

The solution now is defensive and attempt to locate the possible malware. An antivirus may help in this.

Re: Samsung Note 3 "Prevention Information" Message

After re-installing Facebook, the warning message didn't come up so no more issue. So in my case Facebook was the issue (or at least had more or less something to do with it). It's the way the apps interact with KNOX. Yeah, doing a factory rest will mostly like "fix" this issue but that is a little bit extreme. I got lucky and resolved this quickly but if you tons of app and no time to chase this, then factory reset is probably the way to go. Backup, backup, backup!!

Re: Samsung Note 3 "Prevention Information" Message

The problem with antivirus is always the same: it's a dumb piece of software that was taught to find the bad guys by doing profiling. I have been in IT for over 15 years. Most users believe the antivirus is a hitman doing investigative work, adapting to some new situations and is good at cleansing. It's not. It is as good as it was designed and as often it is updated.

With that said, android is no different than Windows computers out there. If I had a penny for every time 2 identical systems with same software loaded on them and yet only one shows weird symptoms.... ah. So don't hold your breath.. I was hoping to find some kind of pattern earlier with what I found out to fix my issues but I guess not.

Re: Samsung Note 3 "Prevention Information" Message

the thing i dont understand is knox is located in my application manager. but there is no shortcut to the app or anything else on my phone whatsoever. i just spent an hour on samsung technical support chat room and they said that a hard reset was my only option but i dont believe this at all. it just started recently. it has to be in an app i recently downloaded right... there has to be a fix to this problem

Re: Samsung Note 3 "Prevention Information" Message

Problem is being reported all over the place. I'm not sure how true this is...Prevention information error??

I'm pretty sure that's not the full or only reason for this issue. Notice the original poster there has a rooted device with custom kernel and recovery. Some of us have this issue with a non-rooted phone. About the worst we can probably do in our case is sideload apps. I tried uninstalling all the ones I had and that didn't work. Sprint on Twitter is basically suggesting a factory reset to me now, which I'd rather not do. I'm still hoping there's a solution that does not require root or a factory reset. Maybe Samsung or our carriers will issue a patch, and the sooner, the better.

Re: Samsung Note 3 "Prevention Information" Message

If I understand it well, KNOX is a virtual partition on the phone that is "unbreakable". If Facebook or other choose to throw some of their processes inside KNOX and there is an issue, all processes will be affected at that moment. Stable KNOX with stable apps should never be a problem but at this time it looks like it's not the case. If Knox is being tripped and we get this warning, a patch will need to identify if the problem is legit or not BEFORE turning off the notification and label it a false positive. If not, then it would make the concept of KNOX useless. Trust is most of us don't need KNOX. it is supposed to be a good thing and Samsung created it first to be able to approach customers with strong security guidelines. Some government agencies could not use Samsung phones before because they didn't meet those requirements. KNOX is the answer to that. But if it doesn't work right for us "little people", I can't imagine the big guys will want to trust it.

Re: Samsung Note 3 "Prevention Information" Message

Knock on wood, but like several others, I had "lookout antivirus" patch and haven't seen that shield pop up again in several hours (both on wifi and off it several times)

Re: Samsung Note 3 "Prevention Information" Message

It will be really interesting someday when a system process on your phone is tripped or flagged due to a false positive and you cannot use your phone until it is fixed. That will **** off a lot of people....

Re: Samsung Note 3 "Prevention Information" Message

I've been having the issue for the last few days on my Note3 (from Videotron mobile in Quebec), and I cleared the memory and cache on the Knox app - so far, so good....we'll see in a few hours or days! I'll keep you guys posted.

Re: Samsung Note 3 "Prevention Information" Message

This is happening because google updated its Google Settings app and causes false alarm on Knox. You will see a different colored icon appears in your drawer. There is some info that in the UK unlocked version there is a security update for our devices that fixes the issue. We have to wait if this is true or not.

Re: Samsung Note 3 "Prevention Information" Message

The fact that this started just happening indicates that a software update changed something with the way that Knox works.

Re: Samsung Note 3 "Prevention Information" Message

The software update that triggered this was the Google Play Services that updated Google Settings. Maybe we can uninstall updates of Google Play Services?

Re: Samsung Note 3 "Prevention Information" Message

so do any of you actually have knox on your phone?? i mean the actual shortcut that will allow you to use it or do you just have it in your application manager? i read that samsung released the phone early and "forgot" to finish putting the whole software for the app on the phone. that they only put it on the international version and i have friends with note 3s that dont have it at all even in their app manager. seems weird to me.... i downloaded a apk from a good source and it allowed me to actually have it on my phone. i then went in to uninstall it to see if it would wipe it completly off my phone and it didnt. it just got rid of the app but remained in the app manager. its something we cant get rid of it seems all we can do is wait for samsung to fix it am i right?
