Samsung Note 7 Itch Anyone?

Samsung Galaxy Note 7 = Keeping up with Joneses, plain & simple ...
Most of the people I meet in my travels have no idea how to use half the **** that Samsung packs in those phones in the first place, they just know they have to have one. It just goes to show you what a 1+ billion dollar marketing budget will do for a company's products ...

I have absolutely zero interest in Samsung devices. Having used them for work on several occasions, I can tell you that after the short-lived honeymoon phase, the reality of it becomes a lot less attractive. Samsung is just awful with updates, both security and software. Their devices tend to slow down over time due to the wear that the bloatware puts on the system. I personally still don't enjoy the UI Samsung uses, though I admit it's a lot better than the GS5 era.

I like my Nexus 6P. I like the fact that I get timely updates. I like the fact that I'm encouraged to tinker with it, with direct instructions from Google, not hit with warning after warning from Samsung and having to rely on 3rd party software to get the job done. I like having an Android API-powered fingerprint reader and not a proprietary system which may (or may not) work with my apps.

For me, a Nexus device is exactly what I'm looking for. For others, Samsung works very well. To each their own :)

I love my 6P and have no intention of getting rid of it, although the ZTE Axon 7 does look tempting hmm...

Having Project-fi, and being happy with the service and cost means I'm happy to remain a Nexus user into the near future. Besides, unless your phone is your primary device for everything you do in your life on a tech level, close to $1000 for just a smart phone is bordering on the absurd. The Note 7 is nice, but not night and day nice compared to the 6P.

I find the design of the Note 7 great. It is a very beautiful phone and its display is amazing. Having said that, the Nexus 6P offers advantages that are important to me:
- Updates
- No bloatware
- Pure Google experience
- Stereo front facing speakers
- I am already running Nougat..

I think that for the majority of people that the Note 7 will be the best choice, but certainly not if you care about the above points.

I will wait to see the new Nexus devices of this year and then make up my mind if I will keep my 6P or switch to the new Nexus.

At this point, I don't think I'll be buying Samsung again. I had several Samsung phones and had the S6 Edge + before my 6P. I loved the battery, screen visibility in direct sunlight, and wireless charging. I hated everything else.

The biggest problem for me was the physical button on the front. I absolutely hate physical buttons. I didn't particularly care for the curved screen either.

Until Samsung drops the physical home button and makes another flagship spec device without a curved screen, I'm done with them.

I am over the smartphone phase dating back to the Palm Treo days. I usually always bought the latest iPhone and Galaxy alternating years. With that being said, my S7 Edge will probably be may last "flagship phone". I am in run to failure mode and when it does fail or becomes unusable, I will be buying something in the $200-$400 range. Moto,Nexus, One Plus etc...I've come to the realization that no phone is worth more than that.

Yep I've been eyeing it, but would add on JUMP! on T-Mobile to have a free switch in another year, since Samsung's updates have been hit or miss for me in the past. $850 is pretty steep though...

Overpriced carrier phone? No thanks.

A lot of times carrier phones will be less expensive than retail. You just have to look for the deals.
I've had Verizon since the beginning of Verizon and all of my phones were less than retail even after you figure in access fees.
Even if they were more than retail, I would stick with my carrier.

Note 7 retail $849.
Purchase from Best Buy $349 with 2 year contract and you get a free Gear Fit 2 retail $180
$349 - $180 + $40 upgrade fee = $209

$209 vs $849 ( $849 Samsung retail )

Purchase from Verizon. Verizon retail is $864 outright or $36 for 24 months and you get a free Samsung Micro SD card retail $249
$864 - $249 + $40 upgrade fee = $655

$655 vs $849 ( Samsung retail )

I sign a new contract every 2 years anyway and get a better price plus the best coverage from Verizon.
Add in my government employee discount of 19% on data a I'm good to go.

I fondled a Note 7 today. Wow. Very nice. Don't care. Too much bloat.

Also, FYI, I'm in Singapore for business for a few days and walked into a cell phone store here (where they had Note 7's piled up like cord-wood) and played with three different Huawei phones. One was a P9 but I don't recall the what the other were. I know nothing of their specs but as far as build quality is concerned they were all top-notch. The 6P in no quirk. Huawei obviously knows how to make very nice hardware.

Ya, I'm going for it most likely too. I just can't resist anymore. That thing is hands down the most beatiful phone on the market right now. And no I don't use cases so yes that matters :)

Since I just got my 6P in June I have no intention of changing for a while. With that said, if I was changing it wouldn't be a Samsung mainly because after having the S6 for a year I got pretty tired of Samsung's OEM Android (can't be masked by a good launcher imo). Note 7 looks like a great device if you dont mind Samsung's Android.

{Nexus 6P}

I prefer Samsung over nexus. But that is why it is great that we have choices with Android.

I think the S7 Edge is by far the prettiest phone on the market. I LOVE the screen, I love the camera. I think I could probably live with delayed security updates. I think I could probably live with not having the latest Android version. But the one thing I cannot live with is Touchwiz. I know they've toned it down, and it's better than it used to be. But there have been a lot of issues with the S7 in relation to battery life, speaker volume, call drops, etc. I am betting a lot of these issues are related to Touchwiz. And yes it has a speedy processor and 4 GB RAM, but that is not overkill when running Touchwiz. It's a necessity. I know this isn't for every user, but of the 4 friends that I have that own the S7, all 4 have experiences significant issues, and 2 of them have had their phone replaced, and one has had a screen repair due to the screen turning green when Always On is used. I was so close to taking a shot at the S7, but am now glad that I've stuck with my 6P. I am not bashing, and I honestly hope that software updates can fix the known issues. I think it still has the potential to be the best phone on the market, but right now it isn't. All just my opinion.

Played with a Note 7 a couple of days ago. Gorgeous hardware, but I was shocked to still see that blink-of-an-eye hesitation when swiping fast through home screens and app drawers. I expected better.

I have note 5 and 6p. Note 5 as smooth and as fast. People still stuck in old touchwize. Samsung came a long way. It is not a concern anymore.
