Thanks so much for this tip. I have a new S6 and for no good reason, it suddenly "died." The "hold the power and volume down button for over 10 seconds" brought my phone to a menu to which I could successfully reboot my phone. Great tip! :)

Thank you captfbgnet. I had my S6 fail. Not sure if this is related, but it got upgraded the day before and rebooted ok at the time. In the morning I picked it up and it was very warm, like it had been sitting on a radiator. It refused to reboot, even after trying to recharge, but no charge symbol. So I found your suggestion and hey-presto it burst back to life. So thanks for saving my day.

I'm using a Samsung Galaxy Edge S6 - bought it brand new from Verizon, it's been working fantastic until earlier today when all of a sudden the phone appeared completely dead to me - even plugging it to a charger would not show any LED lights on - nothing - I thought my phone was dead.

Then I did a search and came across this thread - I had tried other button combinations (Vol UP + Home + Power) but nothing worked - then tried what you suggested: Hold down Vol Down + Power and in 3 seconds I was in a pseudo MS DOS screen with 5 options, chose safe mode and the phone is working perfectly.

Still unsure what caused the problem but now i know it's software - thanks for the help!

Thanks to everyone participated in this forum.
Thanks to the one who raised up this probes and thanks to everyone tried to solve it.
I faced the same situation with my S6 and by following up what was suggested in this forum (press power and volume down botomns for 10 seconds) my mobile was switched on and returned back to its standard position

thank you for your advice to press the power button and the volume down button for 10 seconds.
it worked. mine got reset and now its working again.

Was driving from NC to NY, phone in poxket. Stopped at rest stop and phone unresponsive. Have had the phone 2 months with no issues, hadn't installed any apps in a month or more. Power button and volume down held for 10 seconds worked and been fine for 2 weeks now. There issues definitely some sort of problem with these phones. If it hasn't happened to you it will. Just remember the power and volume down reboot.

You probably did the right thing by ordering a replacement. But for grins, try to press and hold the Power and Volume Down buttons for more than 10 seconds until the phone turns off and/or if there is any response at all.. This will “soft reset” the phone and it is effective when it comes to minor firmware and hardware glitches. I really don’t know what happened to the phone but there are always units that have problems out of the box.

Omg. You are the best. My device died too.. i just followed your tip of pressing the power and volume button... its back to life. You have saved the day and an irritating trip to samsung dealer ..thankyou so much

Thank you for the tip. That fixed whatever the problem was.

My S6 just randomly died. I was sure it had 42% of battery left. I went to the kitchen and came back and it was dead. I thought I was trippin' for a minute. I started charging my phone and nothing happened. So, I knew it wasn't the battery.

I did what you said, and the phone rebooted. Thank you! :)

Thanks for the tip. I don't have s6 yet but I am definitely going to get one soon.

Same thing just happened to me. GGGGrrrrrr what a pain. I've played with all the buttons in various ways but my revival efforts are futile. It's plugged in to its charger to an outlet and my PC and nothing. FRUSTRATING SAMSUNG as my dad is going in to surgery tomorrow and now I have no phone.

Try holding the power button (on the right side of the device) and the power DOWN button on the left side. Hold them for about 10 seconds until the device reboots. That's the sequence for a soft reset, no data or anything will be lost.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but my wife had this same problem about a month ago and the power button volume down method proved to be a temporary fix only. After a couple days it happened again and the time period between occurrences became shorter until it was happening multiple times a day. To add insult to injury, the unit Verizon sent us was a refurbished unit even though her's was brand new.

My friend has an S6 with similar issue. It randomly died a month ago, he google it and did the reset tip in this forum. It fixed it, until yesterday it died again, this time reset tip would not work. He took it to Verizon store, they looked at it and said they couldn't figure it out, would not issue a replacement from store (Verizon policy) and instead would authorize a phone shipped to him overnight. After reading this forum I assume it is because he will not get a "new" replacement, but refurbished unit. Any way they also told him to go to Samsung kiosk in nearby Best Buy store, because he had no backup phone, they might be able to troubleshoot so he could back up his photos, etc. No go, the technician could not diagnose or fix anything, phone bricked.

My GS6 has done that twice. It's just dead. I pressed the power, home and volume up key and it reboots. Happens again and it's going back.

Same thing happened to me. Got a new phone in the mail. works much better. Anyone notice how ****ty the battery life is on the S6 edge when you have wifi on, wifi calling enabled and voice over LTE enabled. I have it sitting on the belkin wireless charger right now and the phone is at 103 degrees Farenheit. I may do a factory reset/ flash firmware because it helped with my previous s6 edge (but then it just crapped out on me and I think those two things are completely unrelated)

I too had a "crash" on my S6 Edge that I purchased less than a month ago. Thanks to this forum, I tried the soft boot described by the other users and it worked. The phone is up and running again. I had called Samsung and could only offer to service my phone, and to send it to them. I printed the UPS label and was going to send it back tomorrow morning. I think I will give the phone one more chance before I send it back. Thanks to all that offered the solution. Hopefully it will not occur again.
