Samsung trade in question

I'm asking this here, because as usual Samung Direct gave me two different answers. I got the S9+ and traded in a phone for $300 to get the discount. If I send it back within the return window, will I lose the trade in credit? One rep said yes, the other said I would get a promo code to use in the future. Which is right?
