Samsung you're in serious trouble if you think people will pay $1000 for a phone

When are people going to get over it and move on from the note7 mess. My god it's been a year. If it still bothers y'all then don't get the note 8 or any Samsung phone. Samsung ain't going to cry over y'all like y'all cry over them. Of course they lost money. Duh. It's 2017, not 2016 so move on to better things people.

It's been a year, but unless you're someone who upgrades to every single new phone that is released, people are probably still feeling the effect of the Note 7 recall at the moment. I am still on my Note 4 because I didn't want to waste an upgrade on something else, knowing that only another Note would make me happy. Therefore, I'm still feeling the Note 7 debacle. My guess is that people won't be entirely over it for 2 years. Most of us will be over it after this Note 8 is released, but anyone who was impatient and burned their upgrade on something inferior after the recall, if they keep that phone for the full 2 years, will probably still whine about the whole thing until they're happy with a new device. And believe me, I am READY to move on to better things, so long as Samsung released this phone in a blue color at launch.

He does but all these legit review companies and sites do not. Flossy is just another nobody on YouTube.

He's expressing his preferences, he's not talking about the actual quality of the panel. He doesn't measure anything, he provides his personal experience based on his subjective preferences. The most accurate panel, to date, on a smartphone can never logically be called "trash" - because by default that would make literally every other display on the market "trash".

I am picking nits a bit here, but this has been one of my pet peeves about rating displays. Since "best" is subjective, and "accurate" is mostly objective and measurable, people IMO conflate them erroneously.


Just because a display may be measured as the most "accurate", doesn't mean that people will view the screen as the most pleasing , or best. I am one such example. I love the overly-saturated Samsung screens, really love them. I think they are the best around. I think many surveys have found the same among "normal" users - they prefer colorful, saturated screens (and photos too).

What people feel is the "best" screen may have nothing at all to do with what is the most "accurate" screen. Folks like punchy color and other tweaks that may not be as accurate, but look better in many people's opinion.

Anyway, just my 2 cents, YMMV of course ..

You're absolutely right, that the "best" for any individual, when you're talking about what they prefer most, is not necessarily the best display. Yet, it is still the best display - they simply prefer something else. So maybe we should replace "best" with "favorite" when talking about what individuals prefer, and leave "best" in place to describe the one that is technologically most proficient.

Also, hopefully the Note 8 comes out with an amazing display that blows the pants off last years' devices and it becomes a bit of a moot point when we can return to the days where "best" and "favorite" are more or less interchangeable again

Well, my point was that this is NOT categorically true. "Accuracy" is 1 of several factors that can make a display the "best". It is not the only factor. So to say "because it is the most accurate, it is the best" is not necessarily true. People may take accuracy, screen brightness, refresh rate, and other measurable factors into play, alone. And besides that, as I mentioned in my previous post, even if all those measurable factors rate the highest, that doesn't make it the "best" display necessarily, as people have certain other preferences that they value more than accuracy.

We may be saying the same thing here, I am not sure

Either way, I seriously doubt anyone is going to look at the Note 8 and say, "Man oh my, that screen is pure crap. I was totally going to drop a grand on this phone, but it's so bad that now I'm going to get a Moto E instead."

I would be perfectly fine with the 64gb since I have the 256gb sd card from the note7.

Some apps can't be moved to SD card. That's the part I hate. Android should require this on all apps.

That pretty much sums it up for me too. The iphone screen just isn't "pleasing" to me.

Yeah. I get your point. But some people here do it just to hear themselves say the same thing over and over. Like people don't get their point the first time. I guess since I'm such a loyal note fan I've been able to let it go. Once of course. If it happen again to the note 8 then yeah I'm done lol. But I'm right there with you with the blue option. Bring it on samsung lol

They don't because there is a huge security hole by doing so. This is what "adoptable storage" attempts to remedy, but it's clunky and broken in it's own right. At this point I'd much rather just have more internal storage than having a card try to replace a lack of internal storage.

Yes, I think 64GB is too little. The OS will probably hog up 10GB at least so you really have 54 GB to work with. Facebook takes up a half a gig. I'd love to see the unlocked 128GB version. Definitely go for that. Well worth extra $100. Probably have outdated OS before I run out of space on phone. I usually use SD card for all my media only but didn't get that option with the N5.

The minor hassle wasn't a problem. Hopefully they corrected the problems and next is a safe smooth sailing phone to love all over again..

I have to disagree mostly. Tablets are nice to have to watch videos on and easy to carry out and about, but it's still not the same as a laptop. I tried it before with the Surface tablet and with the Note Tab at school instead of lugging my laptop around and it just didn't work out. Even the surface tablet with Office on it is still not the same experience including the keyboard with it. Hard to type as fast on those keyboards for tablets.

I can type an email much faster on my laptop than on my s8 Plus. Tablets and smartphones are fine in a pinch but when I really want to surf the web and such it's my laptop.

I can type way faster on a traditional keyboard as well. But my kids, and their friends, and their friends can crank out more words per minute on their phones and tablets than I can on a keyboard...and I'm fairly proficient at typing.

If you don't believe me though, all you have to look at are sales trends for the under-30 crowd. Smartphones are outselling PCs and Macs and have been for several years now. Laptops and desktops certainly have their place in the workforce for professional use, and I don't see that changing anytime in the near future, but for personal use (young) people aren't using computers anymore.

Young people don't email. They text, they facebook, they snapchat...all from their phone. Chromebooks are popping up in schools around the country and given to kids at the beginning of the year, so in the event they actually do need to type a lengthy report, they've got that available to them to use, but other than that there is practically no use for computers outside of work for millenials and their successors.

On contract yes I would get it but I won't pay over £1,000 outright for a phone. The most I've ever spent on a phone is £819 on the iPhone 7 plus last year. I don't think I'd spend more than £900 on a phone particularly when I already have a 7 plus which works well. I will get the note 8 on contract and would even plump for the 256GB if it were available here (UK) which I know it won't.
