Samsung you're in serious trouble if you think people will pay $1000 for a phone

I am at the point now where I only lease phones.... Trade in and pick up a new one after a year...LOL

So my S8+ only cost me $25.50 x 12 = $306 for the year.

The Note 8 will only cost $393 for the year then on to the Note 9, woo hoo. (Plus tax and upgrade fee)

Ditto that. Some people lease cars, I lease phones. Win/win IMO. If the phone is so good I don't wanna give up, I don't.

You just won't get the free SD card or camera if you wait.

I got SD cards already. Camera is nice but not a deal breaker and I wouldn't use it often and the internet will be flooded with them for sale driving the price of it down if I want to sell it. If I had to pick I'd much rather get the phone cheaper than freebies. I don't even use the Gear VR hardly.

Hmmm. I gave my thoughts. But, this thread was merged and my post disappeared .
Anyways, way too long winded to reconstruct.
Basically,it has more than what appears on the surface.
But $300 extra???

Now if upon find a deal that's another story...

Don't forget cases. If you buy the Defender or the Speck cases that cost $$ for the Note. Looking at around $1100 for it all together then.

I got the S8 Plus. IMO if you have the S8 is to hold off a couple months and see if Sammy or Best Buy does the same thing like the S8 and runs sales on it. If they knock a couple hundred off it, or Best Buy offers the gift card with it.

MAN!!! didin't even consider accessories. Now I have to sell my arm.

They always cost more than the normal Galaxy line. I think the full MSRP for the Note 7 Defender was 70 bucks. Usually after a month Amazon will start to lower the price of the brand name cases but if you want one at launch you WILL pay near full retail no matter where you buy it.

Or order a solid, but second tier brand case like a Caseology Legion case, or Supcase Unicorn Beetle, I-Blason Armorbox. The Legion case for the S8 Plus is really nice. I ordered it just to have a case for my S8 Plus if I couldn't get the Defender case by launch date.

I see Samsung now offers their own Defender style case, but like all their OEM cases FAIL. Doesn't allow wireless charging LOL.

Wish VZ would do that...

I wonder why Verizon is so much cheaper.

I think it's closer to $200,unless you buy it outright or can get it from Best Buy.
You have the upgraded camera, updated Bixby, upgraded Samsung experience 8.5, IMO a slightly better screen, 6gb of RAM and features like App pair. That's not to mention the updated S-pen with features like the live gifs (or whatever they call it). You're also a step closer to the top of the list for future updates.

I am not saying that I agree with or even like the current cost of top tier smartphones (I don't), that said it does seem to be the direction this is going, I do like that they are offering some hardware perks, if you step back and look at the total cost offset by the bonus items (these have a tangible cost associated with them even if they are coming to us at no cost) it's not as bad as looking at device price alone. it's a shame they don't offer an option to skip the bonus items and get a reduced cost for the phone.

Cheers,
BR
Waiting for my N8 to ship.... :)

Did you really include Bixby as a positive lol... Screen is negligible
Samsung Experience? Really?

RAM yes
Cams yes
SPen given

I guess I'm just one who'd rather protest this phone in hopes that companies won't accept this pricing as a norm

That's cool but I think you should convince some of your friends and their friends to follow suit with you. Because these giant expensive phones the recent iPhones and Samsung devices and even Google devices are selling like previous generations never have.

Does the price bother you?

Doesn't me.
I use my phone, except for sleep, all of the time.
It's interest free and I have to make a VZW service payment monthly anyway.
If I didn't use my phone all of the time, I guess I couldn't justify dropping 1k.
In which case, I'd just use the old flip Razr that we have and still works.
I touched the note 8.
Angels sang.
I told the VZW rep...
Take my money bruh!

Re: Does the price bother you?

For $504 before tax, not at all. For the full $930 before tax, possibly.
