Samsung you're in serious trouble if you think people will pay $1000 for a phone

When people pay $400+ for headphones *coughBEATScough* $1k is nothing.

I draw the line at $100 for headphones. Yes, I will upgrade to this...shocking right. LOL

No matter what the cost with carrier financing at a cost of even 40.00 a month Samsung will sell boatloads of the note. The s pen and duel camera's & 6gb's I predict record sales. With all the premium features it sports it is the complete flagship!

All you have to do is wait for Black Friday it's not that far off. You can probably save yourself 2 to 3 hundred in 3 short months. There will be sales. Patience is a virtue!

Most off those never apply in my situation. I'm one person, one phone, one line, no home phone, no cable, no internet, etc., so no waiting for me.

Note 8 could lose out to S8+. Almost same size. and basically same specs, at a cheaper price. A software update could bring animated messages to S8+

You need the s-pen for animated messages. I think the note is still fairly niche so the s series will always sell more. Last year the s7 edge was 5.5 inches so not much smaller than the note 7 and it had the same specs. Apart from the s-pen the only features that differentiated it were 64GB of internal storage, the iris scanner, micro USB C and some software features like secure folder and cloud sync.

You could use your finger to make the animated messages. Just like gif creator is available on the S8 and use finger to create box. I may be wrong but translate is also available in S8 by using word to point to word?

Apple set the trend with the original iPhone selling at $599 for 8 Gig which was unheard of, yet look what happened. The original Note was over $600 as well. The price of these devices is just going to continue to rise as long as they continue to sell well.

If you consider the capabilities you are getting with these new high end devices, it's not as hard of a pill to swallow. Yes they are more than most laptops, but for many the laptop has been demoted to a simple surfing device and could easily be replaced with a Chromebook or inexpensive W10 machine, or simply negate the need to upgrade their existing PC.

Re: Does the price bother you?

You are getting an infinity display, the s-pen, the ability to use your phone with a screen as a desktop replacement (DeX), fast wireless charging, fast charging, a 6.3 inch quad HD display, the ability to use VR (gear VR), a headphone jack, iris scanning and facial recognition.

This is in compression to the 7 plus from last year.

If we compare to the iPhone 8. That will be a lot more expensive than the note 8. It's going to start at $1,000 for the base 64GB model.

And those are justifiable increases in the price? The S8+ can do most of those things and it's only $400-something at this point.

If it were to be 1k dropped out of pocket then Yea it'd be problematic for them.
But for those of us making a payment for service to VZW each month anyway....
I'm down worth 2 years no interest for a sexy phone that has spinners, fuzzy dice and a muffler on it.

lol. If I didn't have the s8 already I would buy the note 8. Cash. People have the option to finance phones, just like cars, and some people only think hey I can afford the monthly payments. Look at how many people change phones every year. There is no real reason to apart from desire for a new phone.

OK so I/m a new Android user (completely underwhelmed) with a Huawei p8 lite (its unbelievable crap) but £1000 for an Android phone - you gotta be joking you'll gat change from an iPhone for that, and it'll work and you get support...

with all respect, with that as your intro phone, you may remain disappointed in android. and the note is worth every dime asked for those of us that use it as a business tool or pc/laptop replacement. I started with a lesser phone and was so disappointed with android. switched to the note series and was blown away. but I completely understand that there are those that have no need or desire for either android or the note. I, otoh, will never leave the note series unless it is defunct, and won't go to apple. been there, still have it, and still prefer android.

Its not like I'm a power user. phone, SMS, WhatsApp read Play newsstand and that's about it. P8 lite - flakey fingerprint reader - need to re-enrol every few weeks. now it refuses to connect to my Google account and this looks like a reasonably common issue across the Android platform, searching the forums many posts on the this, but I've not see a fix yet.

Purchase phone June 2017 installed version of Android 7
Android 7.1 release date Oct 2016 (as per Wikapedia)
Security update on purchase Feb 2017

Current status exactly as on purchase - Heawei have had a almost a YEAR to get 7.1 out, monthly security updates - what a joke...

Phones generally last me 3-4 years. Looks like this will last months. When's the iPhone 8 out?

I posted this elsewhere too. I have decided to get the Note 8.

I think a $ +/- is ultimately not an issue.
The issue is with S8 pricing.
With that phone starting at 750, that pushed the S8+ to 850 and now Note 8 to 950.
Since they'll sell a heck of lot more S8s than the other two, this will be very profitable for Samsung and re-sellers.

And Notes are never crowd pleasers anyway. They have always been a pro tool. :)

I don't think it's fair to compare a budget android phone to a flagship phone like the iPhone and expect to get the same results. A flagship android phone today will get a minimum of 2 years of system updates and 3 years of security updates. However google update a lot their core apps and services via the play store. An android flagship phone will last you 3-4 years.
