Has anyone used the Scinex w20 smartwatch.

Came across it in amazon. Has a very high rating, but no reviews outside of Amazon.

It's just around $80 and looks good, has micro SD card slot and Sim card slot as well. Those don't matter for me. I'm just looking for a good smartwatch without having to spend a lot.

Be aware that this is not an Android Wear device. It's basically a standalone mini-phone on your wrist, since it accepts SIM cards, and you can make calls with it. Personally, I'd stay away from it. It's not a well-known company, and watches like this are usually very bulky. I'm also a bit suspicious of all of those 5 star ratings (91% of 88 reviews).

100% agree with Diddy here. This watch really sounds like a cheap Chinese knock-off that simply isn't going to work well and just leave you disappointed. The 5-Star ratings are more than suspicious IMO and I'd simply take my $80 onto eBay or one of the discount sites (cowboom, Brad's deals, etc.) and get a more recognized / known good smartwatch.

In all honesty, I've tried a few of these cheaper wearables and it never turned out well. This particular one looks like an upgraded / modified version of a similar Chinese watch I got off eBay, called the FlyShark.

As I mentioned above, it just isn't a good watch, let alone a good smartwatch. With newer and newer watches coming out, the older / original Android Wear watches are going down in price and some good deals can be had if you don't mind looking around. You don't even have to buy used / refurbished if you don't want, I recently purchased an original LG G Watch - Brand New from Amazon themselves (not their marketplace sellers) for $99.

To the OP, keep looking and post up here if you have any other questions!

"FlyShark"? What the holy heck is a FlyShark? Is it a shark with the head of a fly? Or a flying shark? Or a fly with shark teeth?

Oh, I get it. It's just a piece of junk.;)

LOL... Yep, that last one! :)

The plight of the early adopter! Plus, well... I kinda have a collection going here and like picking up some of the little known / more obscure ones every now and then.

Found any diamonds in the rough? Like the Cookoo, or the Toq?

I own both of those... The Cookoo and its successor the Cogito both have the distinct issue of only telling you that you have a call / text / twitter waiting. The problem with that is you still have to pull out your phone to determine if that notification is really worth your attention. Yea, their battery life is awesome, but really kinda defeats the purpose (for me anyways) of even having the smartwatch & notifications on your wrist in the first place.

You did hit the nail on the head with the Qualcomm Toq tho! That is one of my all time favorites even to this day! The watch is handsome looking, works beautifully, and showcases some interesting design ideas (like a button-less interface, battery in the watch band... Not the watch, and that gorgeous Mirasol display that handles sunlight marvelously)!

Sadly, it had It's quirks... The build quality of many was a bit questionable, had a super bulky charger, the watch band could not be replaced and had to be cut to size of the wearer. Ultimately, Qualcomm just gave up on the device, but I still enjoy the thing!

One other "honorable mention" I've found is the Martian Notifier. It's the cheaper of the Martian smartwatches that doesn't try to do as much as their previous, fancier-looking Voice Command watches. However, in my experience, this is part of what makes it great! The Notifier provides you that careful balance between traditional watch looks and smartwatch notification benefits without the complications & hassle of trying to hold phone conversations on your wrist or silence a speaker on your wrist as well as the one in your pocket. I know it sounds cool, but trust me, it's not a good experience in these implementations.

It has it's issues and limitations, but isn't bad for a "first smartwatch" for someone that isn't quite sure they want a shiny gadget that bears little resemblance to a traditional watch on their wrist. And they can be had for relatively cheap these days.

I took a chance on the Scinex SW-20, ordered a week ago and received today. It is a sharp looking watch and it works great. Was a snap to set up. I am new to the smart watch game, by no means an aficionado, but this is exactly what I wanted. I can take calls on it, view messages, and even respond if I had fingers the size of toothpicks.

I don't know how it will hold up in the long run, but this is a truly impressive piece of technology that I am glad I didn't discount out of turn. The damn thing even has an FM radio in it, which isn't advertised on their site anywhere that I saw. Do I feel like a D-bag answering calls on my wrist? A little, but it's still fun. I just need to figure out how to pump up the volume on it a little bit.

Glad it worked out for you.... As mentioned above, wouldn't have been my first pick, but if it works for ya, go for it! :)

Enjoy!
