Well my buddy's 3D took a basketball hit and it fell on the floor and broke the screen today.

What is amazing is he spent the money for an Otterbox and it still broke in that.

No Gorilla Glass in these babies!

My little girl dropped mine from maybe 6 inches at most onto a very low-density endtable and the camera lense glass cracked. Boo

The weakest point is on the edge of a sheet of glass. Are you certain that the impact of the baseball was more of the culprit for the crack?

This is why I went with the Otterbox Defender instead of the Commuter. Mainly because the Defender and even the Impact series provide more screen protection. All the commuter seems to do is protect from corner impacts. The screen is wide open. Thats messed up for your buddy though.

This is my worse nightmare......

I have the Otterbox Commuter, as does your friend judging by the pic, and if this happened to my phone THAT easily, I'd be calling Otterbox and complaining. WTF is this "heavy duty" case for if the phone will still break.

Having said that, I've dropped my Evo 3D several times and it hasnt done any damage....keeping my fingers crossed!

Gorilla glass or not I'm putting a phantom skin film on mine...

That is a bummer. I too would be speaking with Otterbox about why I bothered to get their case if it broke from that little of a drop, but unfortunately (as the picture proved), it can happen.

It is gg and the iphone 4 has gg and mine completly shattered from a couple feet a year ago so gg doesn't really matter on sudden impacts its really just good for compressions.

Glade I have the best buy protection then. The one through Sprint I heard charges $200 for an evo 3d replacement. BB is still at $0

For all of you stating that the EVO 4G and the EVO 3D use GG, can you provide a link to where you are getting that info from? None of the spec sheets I have read for either of the EVO devices indicate that GG is used. I do recall long threads in the EVO 4G forums about this and there was never any conclusive info provided that HTC used GG nor would HTC confirm the materials used. Until a reliable source can be provided that says they are using GG, then it's all just speculation.

Hahaha! Did you hear that from a Best Buy rep?

They'll tell you anything to get that Black Tie insurance (my ass); they told my friend (and I was with her) that the deductible for Sprint JUST for the Evo 3D: $150. I looked up the Terms & Condit. in front of him and shut him the hell up.

You do also know that Best Buy's doesnt cover the MOST important thing? Theft/Loss.

Lose your phone under Best Buy and you'll be shelling out a whopping 500 for a new phone off-contract.

Here's the response I got back from HTC. Corning GG would not comment on if they put GG in the Evo 3D or not (see their response below HTC's):

Dear Mike,

I understand that you would like to know if the HTC Evo 3D screen is made out of Gorilla Glass. We actually make the glass in our screens out of a proprietary formula that is scratch and shatter resistant.

To send a reply to this message or let me know I have successfully answered your question log in to our ContactUs site using your email address and your ticket number 11USCW27ENA001537.

Sincerely,

Lydia
