Screen cracked after one week!!!

Sorry to say this but dude this is your fault. A phone with more glass is more prone to break. Verizon will not help you and its not their responsibility. I suggest you just call and put insurance on the phone, DO NOT let them know u broke it. A few days later file a claim. Because you have 30 days to insure the device I believe.

From the best android phone PERIOD. Galaxy Nexus.

Yeah but that's insurance fraud, no? I guess it depends upon the term of your provider, but still.

The moral of the story is easy: this phone is fairly high quality, but it uses materials that must be cared for. Why the phone was in your lap when you got out of your car I do not know; I've done the same with my iPod, but that's because I throw that thing around like it's a softball. The Nexus is not a softball, and they (Samsung or anyone really) can't afford to make a phone a tank to insure it against clumsy negligence like that.

Do you (the OP) know how much the Nexus would cost--or any phone for that matter--if it were built to withstand stuff like that? And not just freak occurrences, but with a decent probability rate (70-80%+) of survival? Basic economics tells us that it would be ridiculous, and basic economics also tells us that we're getting the benefit of the phone as is.

So in all, take better care of your items. I've had an iPad for close to 1.5 years with no issues whatsoever. No screen protector, just a case and care. If it means putting your Nexus in a case (and by "means" I mean you're foolish not to IMHO) and making sure it's not where it can be easily damaged, that's what it means. But blaming Samsung, Google, Verizon, etc. for your own carelessness does nothing for the device, gadgets, or anyone else TBH.

Sorry about that. I take a lot of care with my devices and expect--or assume--that others do as well. When they don't, they bear the risk.

Technically yes but unless he wants to pay 700 plus or have a phone with a cracked screen for a while its all he really can do. Usually you can find someone who can replace the screen but since its a brand new phone people may not have the parts and or know how.
In his defense I put my phone on my lap all the time in the car and I take good care of my phones. But because this is a habit I have I always use a case and put insurance on my phone..

If all else fails. Put it on ebay as is, and try and sell it for 3-400. To helpoffset the full retail cost.

I am glad i got insurance. I used bestbuy's and the way they put things it seemed like a good deal over verizons. This phones screen is too damn big to not have it. I am also a person who feels like his $700 phone shouldnt need a case to protect it, and in my job having a phone like this in my pocket its bound to break in the next 2 years so i ended up getting it. I also ended up getting a case this time, but only due to the size/materials this phone is made of, i am going to drop it soon rather than later. Its not like I WANT to have to use my insurance, the case just gives me a better grip and helps avoid the hassle of filling a claim over just a small drop.

and sure enough i order the case, and the day before I am set to receive it the phone and all of its slick plastic and glass goodness slide right out of my coat pocket as I try to pick up some papers of the ground right on to the pavement. Luckly it just had a few very minor scratches on the frame that you can really only see if you are looking for them, but they are scratches that would have been prevented with a case.

Expensive tech should have insurance....

I believe you have up to 30 days to add Insurance. Call them and add it. Wait till the next day then make the claim. Its no harm done and Assurion should get you another one. Its not fraud. Its part of there program. When I owned the Samsung Infuse, I lost one and Broke the other one. Filed claims each time and get new ones. Brand new ones from Asurion in boxes with everything. I was amazed. But I did 2 claims within a year so they dropped me and I wouldve had to wait, had I not switched to Verizon.

You guys already know there is people who take there totally fine phones, sell it on ebay and make a profit, then put in a claim and get another one cheaper. And there aint nothing the insurance company can do about it because your paying them for their service. Even if they only got 1 months payment.

Not fraud? Really? Why not tell them you've broken your screen and would now like to purchase insurance to cover it?

Not the kind of post I'd like to see coming from an "Advisor."

Lol really? It is fraud... it is a crime... it is wrong... it is forcing others like me to pay for someone's carelessness... it's a coward's approach to life.

It's time to man up and own your actions. If you blow it, learn from it and move on... geez...

Everyone is saying get ins get ins but there is no reason why Verizon shouldn't be able to replace the screen on the phones they sell. I fully believe this is something that one should have to pay for but Verizon and the other carriers should offer this. You already pay them loads of money every month, the least they could do is service what they sell.

OP, don't get the insurance after the fact. Like I said earlier, the only way for you to legitimately skirt digging into your own pocket is to look into your credit card's damage insurance coverage (if you paid by CC). Usually comes with mid to high tier credit cards and applied automatically to all qualifying purchases (electronics qualify).

I've used it before. I've used my credit card's price protection coverage too. I bought my wife a Droid Charge at $299. 35 days later VZW dropped the price to $199. Submitted a claim under the price protection coverage (60 day limit) and received a $100 check.

Except you have to send the old phone back or they black list it so it can't be used. You may be able to do that with at&t but not cdma phones....

get the insurance, wait a few days make a claim as if it just happened...u will have to pay a deductible....89.00 to 100.00 dollars...but u should get an entirely new Nexus, and u get to keep all of the extra accessories, i.e. Battery, USB charger, Headphones...

FYI - this is insurance fraud, and it's illegal.

Some don't believe in warranty's on electronics but when it comes to a $700 device that is in your hands 24/7, always get the insurance because when, not if, you drop it, you won't have to go back to a crappy old BB just because you can't afford a new phone. I keep the insurance on mine at least the first year then remove it when the new has worn off. Usually that's about when the contract cost of a new one just like it, meets up with the deductible. I've had a Droid Charge since march and dropped it twice so far with the VZW rubber holster/clamshell holster they sell. Once on concrete from about 2 feet. Have a chip in the top but it landed better than yours obviously. You however screwed up twice but will hopefully learn from your lack of vision. Good luck.

If the option allows you to do that, I don't see why you wont.
These company's aren't frauding us for the charges of internet use and nickel and dimeing everyone for everything? If I pay $300 for a phone. Screen breaks and I can get the insurance to have it replaced, I would do it. No questions asked. I'm no better then anyone else just cause I have an advisor badge.

I pay enough taxes for everything. So I'll take advantage of insurance if I have to. Its the world we live in. Let alone the 3rd replacement Nexus I'm on now for faulty problems.

Of course. Send back the cracked one that is. My Infuse screen cracked. I sent it back and got the replacement. My second was stolen and I got a replacement.

Listen to yourself here... you are justifying behavior with completely irrelevant comparisons.

If you buy insurance BEFORE you crash your phone it shows you're wise.

If you buy insurance AFTER you crash your phone, it makes you a thief.

The worst part of all though is that when you do this you are stealing from the rest of us.

Who the hell do you think pays for this? The rest of us that are paying premiums that's who...

I had my phone on my lap and got out of my car, the phone fell about two feet onto the cement driveway. When i picked it up i looked at what appeared to be a harmless fall...I was wrong. The screen cracked!!! I've only had the phone for one week. I just came from the droid incredible and dropped it at least ten HARD times without any cracking!! What is up with this? Doesn't google think about normal wear and tear of phones when they make them. They know they are going to get dropped, it's inevitible when you depend on your phone as much as we do.

My question is this, has anyone had this problem and has it been resolved by verizon. I did not purchase insurance. Is it worth fighting with verizon over and/or how much is a replacement screen??

I don't think you should be fighting with Verizon. Why should they ie. And all of us be financially responsible for your mistakes?

Even if you were to get some type of free replacement from VZW, those types of costs end up being passed on to all the customers.

You should be a responsible adult and deal honestly with your mistake.

Gorilla Glass is such a crock. I've scratched 3 of the 4 devices I've had that used Gorilla Glass.
