Screen goes blank during calls

Solved:. I had this same issue recently show up on my Pixel XL (original version 1). Maddening when can't end a call or tap the keys icon to follow numeric prompts due to black screen! All I had to do to fix the issue was to carefully clean the proximity sensor in the small opening for it in my screen protector with a dry Qtip. I didn't have to remove or replace the screen protector. There was quite a bit of gunk that had collected in that opening. It's working fine now!

A dirty proximity sensor will definitely cause a problem. Glad to hear a good cleaning resolved your issue.

It could be your screen protector interfering with the proximity sensor if you have one installed.

I cleaned the little slot on the screen where the phone touches the ear. This worked. Looks like the proximity sensor was blocked.

Was having the same problem just recently. Read through posts below and saw the one about the proximity sensor being blocked by screen protector. Noticed some some jam in the cutouts around the front camera and speaker, so I removed the glass screen protector and wiped down the phone screen with screen wipe. Phone started working normal again. Put the old screen protector back on and still working as it should. Give it a try, and thanks for the recommendation.
