My mother owns a 2012 Nexus 7. After receiving the 4.3 update it is acting quite quirky. Her tablet is non-rooted stock. After the update there are times the screen is non-responsive or it registers screen presses when nothing is being pressed. She can turn the screen off and back on and the problem clears for a while..but eventually comes back.

As I said, she is completely stock...and the problem did not occur pre-update to 4.3. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!
John

Try something as simple as a reboot if the problem persists we can try to narrow it down to whether or not its a software or a hardware issue, such as it was dropped and now its acting up... Nexus's Dont like to be dropped nor does any device

If the issue persists after you reboot it you can try a factory reset. However that will wipe out any data you have on the unit. The steps are described below.

If your tablet is on, power it off.
Press and hold Power until the device powers on, then immediately press and hold Volume Down (while still pressing Power). You will see the word Start with an arrow drawn around it.
Press Volume Down twice to designate Recovery mode.
Press Power to restart into Recovery mode. You will see an image of an Android robot with a red exclamation mark.
While holding down Power, press Volume Up.
Use the volume keys to scroll to "wipe data/factory reset" and press Power to select it.
Scroll down to "Yes - erase all user data" and press Power to select it.

I saw that on mine once as well. Reboot made it go away and it hasn't been back so far. I doubt factory reset will help I had to load the factor image to get 4.3.

My Nexus 7 (2012) had the same issue after upgrade from 4.2.2 to 4.3.
It became sporadically unresponsive to touch and would also randomly trigger touch input at various places on the screen when I wasn't touching it. After extensive troubleshooting I finally gave up and flashed the OS back to 4.2.2 and have gone 45 minutes now without any problem.

After using the Nexus 7 at 4.2.2 for a couple of days without any problems I upgraded back to 4.3 this morning. The problem has not reappeared.

After using the Nexus 7 at 4.2.2 for a couple of days without any problems I upgraded back to 4.3 this morning. The problem has not reappeared.
After downgrade to 4.2.2 all was well. I then upgraded back to 4.3 and had no ghost input issues until I installed Skype. So perhaps Skype doesn't play well with 4.3? So I uninstalled Skype.
However, another problem I see on 4.3 that I don't see on 4.2.2 is that dragging and dropping app icons on the home screens is very difficult. Half the time, holding down on the icon causes it to open instead of making it grabbable. Then when when you drag the icon it jumps all around and often drops before you lift your finger.
Keep in mind I'm talking about a 1st gen Nexus 7 (2012).
