Screen issues are seriously over hyped.

I'm happy my with 2 XL' s screen. I never hold it tilted, after 8 days , see no sign of burn in, (Maybe now that I'm on 8.1 I will never see it, at least on the nav bar )It gets way brighter than I can stand. So it's at about 40% or so.

Never liked oversaturated colors...

I value the staffs opinions on most things phone related especially Jerry's, but I am in total disagreement that this screen is terrible.

I just left the Verizon store an hour ago. The screen was fine for me. Yes it's not as vibrant as the Samsung screens but it's good enough. The camera is absolutely absurd and the front speakers kick butt. The phone also flies. I'm glad I reordered after I cancelled my first one.

I've been in the apple ecosystem since lollipop frustrated me to the point of stepping away from Android two years ago.

Same as me. The Pixel 2 XL is what brought me back. Honestly, if it weren't for all this noise, I never would have noticed anything about the screen. The color shift on my phone isn't unlike what happens on many other phones and tablets. To me, it's just something I expect to some degree. I've had my phone for a week and have been using it a ton. I check every day for burn in, and there isn't any. So I'm a little frustrated that so many people who don't even own the phone are saying it's terrible.

And the camera? DAMN. I've taken portrait mode selfies with the front cam outside AT NIGHT with little light, and I've had people think that I took them with a DSLR. Seriously. The pictures are so detailed that bumps and wrinkles on my forehead are clearly visible. There was no flash, either; just the light of a few distant street lamps.

Yet I hear people talking about how this phone sucks? Yeah, okay.

No. The display sucks. Everything else is...well a Pixel. Surely as good if not better than last year. I don’t get why the big deal with harping on it, nor do I get people defending a sub par screen. If this were Samsung or Apple, you guys would be having a field day.

The screen does not, in any way suck. Do you own one of are you just talking based on what you've read?

Do you have to own one to say if it's good or bad?

In store, it doesn't look great to me. But it's relative. If Samsung's great displays weren't around, maybe these LG displays wouldn't be so bad.

All I said was that if it weren't for all the complaining, I never would have noticed anything about the screen because all screens have some sort of color shift to a certain extent. There's nothing for you to dispute about that.

If you think it sucks, that's fine, but your experience is not mine. And I actually have the phone. Do you?

No--but someone should at least have some experience with one before weighing in. We don't even know if many of the people saying the screen is terrible even have that. I'm not sure why the opinion of someone who has little to no experience with the phone should matter, let alone matter as much as those of us who have had it for the past week.

The burn in/image retention is definitely something I'd really trust people who have the phone to comment on, be it reviewers or owners.

But some of the other issues like muddy color or grainy textures in low light and blue tint off axis should be apparent to anyone explicitly looking for them. If you're looking for them, and you see them, it's ok to say the display is not a good display.

It's not the end of the world if other people can't justify your purchase.

No burn in or image retention for me. I'm not seeing muddy color or grainy textures. The color tinting? My iPad Pro does the same thing as my Pixel 2 XL, and literally nobody is making a huge deal about how the iPad Pro display is trash.

I'm not saying anyone needs to justify my purchase. I'm just saying that, as someone who actually owns the phone, it is very frustrating to see so many people making this into such an issue because it's scaring people away from trying out a phone that has, for me, been such a great experience in the week that I've owned it.

No. Why would I have a phone with a dull screen I know would be a deal breaker for me. I think the whole “do you own the phone” thing is lame. Do you own every phone you criticize? I think not.

I’m sure the phone itself is snappy and great with a great camera. But that screen? No thanks.

Obviously, I do, otherwise I wouldn't be commenting. I've had it since day 1.

And that's the biggest problem. All these reviewers and bandwagon jumpers are going to dull sales, which could damage the brand. I sure as hell won't be buying a Samsung anytime. Right now Google is the only one making a true quality device.

Pixel 2 has a great screen. No complaint here. People are whiners. That's all.

Not all people are whiners. Yeah there are some that are blowing ot way out of proportion. And others that just like to complain. But there are others like myself that have a hard time justifying almost $1000 for something they think is not worth that kind of money. I have looked at the Pixel 2 twice now. The first time was on day one that it was put out. Second was a few days ago. I dig deep and really get into looking at everything. Not just at a glance and trying to recreate things that reviewers claim. And I went twice because I really want this phone and and trying to tell myself it would be worth it.

-I see the blue shift. As I have already stated that doesn't bother me much.
-I didn't see any signs of burn-in or IR either time
-The XL had some sort of blue bar in the middle of the screen running horizontal. It was very faint and didn't show up all the time.
-I did compare my 7+ display to both the 2 and the 2 XL with several 1080p videos. I found both Pixels were much more grainy and not as sharp as my 7+. Colors were pretty close and in some cases the Pixels colors were a little more vivid. Yes you see I didn't compare to Samsung. I don't like Samsung phones or their displays.

Something else I noted is the sound on the regular Pixel was not that loud. I had to be much closer when watching the videos to hear clearly. Yes I checked the volume.

I just want a great phone that I will be confident will not let me down in a few months or be plagued with later issues. There are just too many early issues out of the gate with what is supposed to be a top tier device. If this was priced at early Nexus pricing structure I would probably be willing to overlook a few things. But not at the top tier pricing.

I'm not out just yet. I'm going to give it a few months and see if everything with current issues pan out. And no other gremlins pop up.

I try not to criticize phones with vague colorful metaphors. I state what I like or don't like about them or their features including the ones I own. I don't call any phone's garbage or tell anyone that a particular phone isnt worth the money because its not my money.
We are all different in what we choose to accept whether it be a phone, car, house or a spouse because we are free to choose.
