SD Card Woes

Sadly the ROM is finalized, so nothing will be different on the EVO's that we will be buying. Hopefully they will get an OTA update ASAP.

Well hopefully this is just a bad batch of MicroSD cards and is limited to the devices Google gave away. Lets hope the launch devices have a different batch of cards and they work fine.

I am praying for an OTA update that gives me a new SD card, and removes HTC Sense. Or lets me block apps from running before I have ever activated them. Why on God's green earth does Slacker Radio load itself for no apparent reason. Photobucket does that as well. I love the multi-tasking but I think some of these apps need to be lobotomized :)

Yea I need to get a new SD card ASAP. I just need to determine a way to convert my music and maintain my cover art. dbPoweramp is failing at that. Anyone know a way to convert it without damaging my current collection. I have spent many days tending my collection to get it the way I like it, but a lot of the music is 320kbps, which is silly for a mobile device.

You can turn Sense off if you want. Check on the main AndroidCentral page, there is a video demonstrating it.

So has anyone that used their own microSD card still have problems?

Where do you get this microSD card test from?

Is the SD card that came with the phone branded? If so, what brand? I've always used SanDisk and never had a problem. I'll need a bigger card than stock once I get the phone.

It is indeed an 8GB Class 2 Scandisk card that ships with the Evo. I already bought a 16GB class 2 card to use with it. I hope that fixes the issue.

If it is just a flaky card issue we can deal with it. If it is a class 2 issues then we need to get another one.

If it is a software issue, they can fix that.

If it is a hardware issue we are screwed, there is nothing they can do with the current batch, the Evo is already sitting in boxes waiting for us.

This just makes me sad. it looks like its been in the bug db since Apr 23, 2009 at least.
I guess this means a regular backup rotation? :(

Watching that video I noticed that it took just under 2 Min (113 seconds to be exact) to boot from battery insert to usability. Some people said 45 seconds, that is a HUGE difference in time. So it take longer than I expected.

Not that it is a big deal mind you. The only time I would purposefully re-boot it is on a battery change. Lets hope Android does not need a reboot often to solve OS lockups etc... i:Di

Anyway back to the problem at hand. I think we need some experimentation with various cards and classes of cards to get down to the problem.

For android, on Issues - android - Project Hosting on Google Code issue #2500 is one. i just used card corrupt as the keywords. a couple others look related.

nice find!

Issue 2500 - android - SD card corruption - Project Hosting on Google Code

i'd rather it be a software issue than a hardware issue. software can be patched. my concern was that microSD plastic peg piece being a faulty design on the EVO.

it looks like it's a software issue as multiple device models seem to be affected.

Nice find man, I was going to do some Googling myself soon on the problem. Beat me to it and I am glad! i:Di
Edit: After reading that, that looks to be an old issue that should have been fixed by now. i:(i

Seriously I guess we will just wait and see how it goes. I am sure that one week from now when there have been thousands of new Evo users using the phone, the problem will rear its ugly head. Then we go from there.

Plastic pegs in my mind means cutting corners. Hope this isn't a problem....im leaving my Pre for this phone. Even though the Pres hardware isn't too hot, it still works very well!

The plastic peg lock seems very solid and might be even more reliable than a spring mechanism. I don't see any disadvantage to it in securing the card.

I also had some things unreadable on the card. Some videos and some pictures. At one point I couldn't take pictures even though the card was not full. When I reboot it seems OK again. After more playing I plan to swap it with an 8GB class 6 card from my old phone.

This is the only thing disappointing me so far.
