Sense reboots

Yeah I thought it was a memory issue but after a reset and fresh phone and no difference and then all the folks having the same issue I realized its not my Phone..

but is it the launcher that is restarting or the phone itself? If it's the launcher it won't matter if it's a fresh phone if you are using the same app that is causing the launcher to be killed in memory to free up memory for that app you're using. If you're booting up the phone and using the browser or doing some menial task the laucher should not be getting killed in memory but if you're using a fresh phone and watching a flash video, have a bunch of tabs open in your browser or open a game like Peggle I can almost guarantee it will reboot the sense launcher especially if you haven't just restarted the phone itself.

Wow...I thought it was just my wife having bad luck.... I am also having this problem since the update. My wifes phone would randomly reboot (return to the white EVO 4G boot screen) throughout the day. Did a hard reset of the device. Problems remained. I just recently returned her phone. The rep at the store told us that he thinks the latest update caused the issue because ever since the update he has seen several such cases come into his store. I received the new (well...refurb...) device for my wife. Before I even had a chance to do much with it (was just done syncing her gmail) it did the same crap as the previous phone. Rebooted. It did it twice more while I was trying to install some apps (update facebook, angry birds, nothing crazy or rogue). I immediately returned the phone to the store, and another replacement is inbound, but after reading all this I don't think another replacement will do any good. My wife REQUIRES a working phone for her employment at her job. A phone that keeps rebooting randomly does not make me or her happy.

My phone is rooted and running a custom rom, so I have not seen any issues. But I should not have to resort to voiding the warranty on my wifes phone just to get it working properly!!!!

Ok enough is enough. I went and downloaded another lancher. Currently I'm using ADW launcher, and while I don't like it as much as Sense, it hasn't crashed once.
I really hope HTC does something about this.

My whole ordeal with rebooting Sense and endless power cycling makes me sad I didn't root my phone right before Gingerbread was announced as I had originally planned. Instead I took the OTA update and eventually had to replace my beloved original EVO (which had no problems and had been working flawlessly up to that point) with two different replacements. The one I have now is a little quirky but at least it's stable. Keep going back to Sprint and have them give you new phones; one will stick. :)

And you can bet I'll be rooting my phone once GB is finally cracked open.

Everyone that is having the problem needs to go to the HTC site and fill out a contact email and tell them about it. Let your voices be heard. They will of course return a canned response to you, but at least it made me feel good to tell them it's been a rough 2-3 weeks with the GB update. Haggle back with them when they send you that canned response also. They need to know that their GB update stinks! They need to hear from you. The Sprint site/forum had a consolidation thread on it that was dated 6/23....so many people are having issues. One of the poster claims HTC is working on a fix, but if that is true, it sure is taking along time. Assume since the phone is a year old now, they have higher priorities. Apparently it is a power management problem.

No more bragging to friends about HTC or my EVO anymore. My phone had been perfect since I got it last June 2010...but the GB update made my smart phone, just a phone. I can't use the camera, the GPS or any apps because of the freezes and reboots. I'm down to just a few native things on my desktop such as email, my power bar, manage settings and a couple of bookmarks. It's been exhausting doing factory resets and getting thngs back to normal, so I'm now a minimalist. Sad, very sad. Good luck everyone!:'(

I know I'm not the only one having this issue. And up until an hour ago I thought it was just the Evo 4G. But a coworker has the same problem on her Shift.
Is HTC addressing this? Its making me miss my Pre!
It's driving me f'ing crazy! Every time I back out of TweetCaster or Dolphin web browser or Cut the Rope or Angry Birds or pretty much anything else, HTC Sense reboots. It's making the phone annoying to use! I'm going to try the suggestions in this thread, but someone (HTC or Sprint) needs to get on this asap.

Someone mentioned making sure always on sync or data should be clicked... Think it helped my wifes reboots

I get random reboots after pressing the back button really fast. Never happened on my Fascinate which makes me sad :'(

I got a response today from HTC. They made it sound like it was only happening to my phone. I responded saying that even the people at Sprint acknowledged the problem. I suggested they come to this forum and read about the complaints.

Just got another response from HTC. They are still acting like this is only happening to me. I think it may be time to say goodbye to HTC. As much as I love my Evo this is pissing me off too much.

While still happening occasionally, the Sense reboots have decreased dramatically since I unchecked the fast-boot option as recommended earlier in this thread.

Here's the response from HTC. I don't plan on doing it bc I think it's bs and after unchecking fast reboot it hasn't been as bad.

We are sorry to hear that you are issues with your Evo 4G rebooting.

Please place your device in Safe Mode for a 24 hour period as it will disable any non-essential software installed on the device. If the issue still persists in Safe Mode then please procede with the reset/repair steps. If this is not apparent in Safe Mode, then please start uninstalling third party apps until the conflict app is found.

Enter Safe Mode:

- Press power key on device - Press and hold Volume down key until OS loads - "Safe Mode" text will appear on the lower left of screen

Exit Safe Mode:

- Restart device

Reset/Repair Information -

Pulling the battery out is generally referred to as a 'soft reset'. Please turn phone off, remove/replace battery and then turn phone back on. If this does not correct the issue, then please ensure that your personal information such as contacts and photos have been backed up in preparation for a factory reset. Resetting the phone deletes all data, including downloaded applications, and resets the phone back to its initial state —the state before you turned on the phone for the first time.

To reset the device using the menu:

1. Settings > SD & Phone Storage > Factory Data Reset

To reset the device using the device keys:

1. With the device turned off, press and hold the volume down button (located at the right panel of the device), and then press the power button. 2. When the device’s display turns on, release the volume down button. 3. Use the volume buttons to select CLEAR STORAGE, and then press the power button. (All data will be deleted from the device)

I've got ten bucks that says all of these resets are heat issues. I use Battery Indicator Pro and System Panel. Under high stresses, like video or high rez graphics/games and things like TeleNav, the battery gets hot as hell. I've seen it go to 110f! I had the same prob with the stock battery but not quite as hot. I have the Seidio 3500 in it now. The backing thingy that allows me to use the holster doesn't help matters any because it seals in heat.

In any case, if my phone is being used for nav, and it's in the flow of the AC, it's fine. Set it anywhere else and it resets.

Same problem last night. Lying on the couch...a little Angry Birds action...and it was a hot evening yet I had windows open rather than AC. Reset after reset. (and I do not have Fast Boot checked btw).

Turn on the AC and sit in front of it where it could hit the Evo and viola....no resets.

So, think about it....everything people are talking about doing when it resets are nearly ALL high stress activities. I don't know if it's the CPU/board/chip that actually gets hot or if it's the battery first, but eventually the battery gets uber-hot. Take your Evo's temp. When you're stressing it, feel the kickstand. That puppy really heats up.

Anyway you look at it, it's an issue....but see if most of you can't help your resets by having it in a cool environment when it happens and see if that doesn't cut down on it like it does for me.

I've done my fair share of hard resets and such (fast reboot is not checked). The resets were down to a minimum afterwards but eventually came back with a vengeance. I'd say, it resets 90% of the time after exiting ANY app. It's more than frustrating and it's made me want to avoid Sense at all costs, i.e. using apps like Wave Launcher and Folder Organizer. These can launch apps without waiting for Sense to finish resetting, and also add notification entries as shortcuts. Most of the time now I launch and switch apps from the notification bar while Sense is doing its ridiculous reloading in the background. Go figure.

I had the sense reboots issue. I figured out what app I istalled was always running in the background. The answer: Lookout. I unistalled lookout and have yet to have a senes reboot.
