Sense reboots

I am seriously at my wits end with all of the sense reboots since the update... I have even hard reset my phone and that made no difference. Between this and the destruction of the voice to text feature, HTC has turned my once reliable phone into a piece of garbage...

I had the sense reboots issue. I figured out what app I istalled was always running in the background. The answer: Lookout. I unistalled lookout and have yet to have a senes reboot.

I'm willing to try just about anything at this point, save a full wipe of the phone.

My sense reboots have gotten so bad lately, that I'm considering a different phone.

I love this phone. I don't want to give it up.

I just uninstalled Lookout. I'll report back in a few days with news.

Yeah I uninstalled it too... Nope! still happening.

I uninstalled Lookout, seems to be working well so far ...

After I turned the "Fast Boot" option off, the Sense restarts practically went away.

They've come back, however, with a vengance lately.

I really think it's tied to a memory issue, due to the fact that I've been putting more apps on my phone lately (games and such from the market).

Anyway, I decided to try out ADWLauncher, and it seems to have fixed the problem. I tinkered it with it all day, and didn't have one slow down coming in and out of the apps that seem to give my phone the most problems (usually games like Ball Hop, or Facebook). So, before you wipe everything, try a new launcher and see if it works for you...

I've got ten bucks that says all of these resets are heat issues. I use Battery Indicator Pro and System Panel. Under high stresses, like video or high rez graphics/games and things like TeleNav, the battery gets hot as hell. I've seen it go to 110f! I had the same prob with the stock battery but not quite as hot. I have the Seidio 3500 in it now. The backing thingy that allows me to use the holster doesn't help matters any because it seals in heat.

In any case, if my phone is being used for nav, and it's in the flow of the AC, it's fine. Set it anywhere else and it resets.

Same problem last night. Lying on the couch...a little Angry Birds action...and it was a hot evening yet I had windows open rather than AC. Reset after reset. (and I do not have Fast Boot checked btw).

Turn on the AC and sit in front of it where it could hit the Evo and viola....no resets.

So, think about it....everything people are talking about doing when it resets are nearly ALL high stress activities. I don't know if it's the CPU/board/chip that actually gets hot or if it's the battery first, but eventually the battery gets uber-hot. Take your Evo's temp. When you're stressing it, feel the kickstand. That puppy really heats up.

Anyway you look at it, it's an issue....but see if most of you can't help your resets by having it in a cool environment when it happens and see if that doesn't cut down on it like it does for me.

I 110% agree with you! I suspected these reboots were heat related as it would only happen when trying to play a game or charge on the car charger(official sprint charger), in both scenarios the phone gets hot and it reboots. I have flashed AOSP and sense GB roms to see if I could have been the various 2.1/3.0 sense roms, but it reboots on AOSP when playing games or charging on car. I too have been a huge Android and HTC supporter, but this is ridiculous. Every time there is an OS upgrade there are bugs... and it is starting to wear on me!

On my phone at least, heat has nothing to do with this issue.
My phone has been sitting on my desk for hours now and I decided to go to the market and see what updates there were for my apps and there were none, upon exiting the market, sense done the reboot thing.

My wifes evo started doing the reboots from time to time. I unchecked fastboot and it went away for a little while. Then it came back with a vengance. Stuck in a loop till you pulled the battery for several minutes. I tried factory reset, volume down power button reset and dialer reset to no avail. Called sprint, said it's a known issue and got a new one UPS the next day. It wouldn't do it unless you access the internet. If you just used the phone it was fine. Mine has never done it. Hers was always kind of "buggy". Just for everybodys information.

I posted in another thread, and basically my wife's EVO has experienced this problem. Local sprint Store states "low memory" (less than 190MB) plus using Lookout is creating the problem.

Funny thing is that my EVO has less than 190MB available and running Lookout with zero reboots, but the HTC logo does come up a few times a day.

Between this and problems with the USB port, I'm thinking of not buying another HTC phone next time around!

Isn't seeing the HTC logo considered the Sense reboot? This is what happens to me a lot. A white screen with the HTC logo and then it has to load the screen and widgets.

Im glad to see its just not my phone. It is so annoying when youre in the middle of doing something or when you least expect it. It happens to me about 10x's a day. I always try to keep about 100 mb of free memory, to keep 190 mb open is rediculous. I never had these problems with Froyo, even running with low memory. I hope an update comes soon because I absolutely love my Evo!!

I have been trying to work with the GB update and while it does have some improvements, the negativesoutweigh the positives.

GB KILLS MULTITASKING! Rarely can I go from browsing a webpage and back to the home page without HTC SENSE restarting and then having the webpage have to reload. Happens while checking sms, email and other apps. I would go back to FROYO in a second if I could, arghhh.

Oh, and I have the most minimal apps on my phone, all on the sd card, it's not an app issue.

In my opinion, they completely ruined the functionality of this phone with the GB update... I loved this phone until I updated it... Even after a hard reset (in a last ditch effort to make it work properly again), I am getting sense reboots after exiting almost every program. Between that, the loss of Wimax notifier, and the loss of text to speech, I'm amazed I haven't smashed this phone to pieces yet!

Oh yeah, there is also the unexplainable steady loss of storage space. I was down to about 40 megs before the hard reset, had about 217 after, and am now down to about 118, without installing anything new... WTF? Every time I check, there is a little bit less...

The Sense (home app) refresh is definitely related to the upgrade to 2.3. I never had this problem before the upgrade, now it occurs multiple times a day, and takes about 10-15 seconds each time. It tends to stop for a period of time after a total reboot of the phone. I read someplace that the issue is most likely due to Sense not having protected memory rights. Meaning, when memory is running low, memory management goes through applications and kills the ones it thinks can be killed. Sense is being killed, but it should not be,it should be protected. This should be easily fixable with a patch from HTC/Sprint. I am really getting tired of it. :-\

Yup. But according to my back and forth emails with HTC, it's only happening to my phone, and it's all my fault... I even suggested they come here and read the thread, but they insist I'm doing something wrong.
I'm thinking my next phone won't be HTC

It definitely has something to do with GB. I just had to do an insurance claim on my phone a few weeks ago which had the GB update with the sense reboots. I was hoping the phone that was sent to me, which happened to be a brand new Evo with GB (without the maitenance update) would not have the problem. I used the new card that came with the phone and downloaded my apps from the market...no difference still reboots. It might be a particular app that isnt working well with GB that we are all using.

My phone has been sense rebooting for the last couple days, this is slightly annoying, i hope they fix it sometime soon

I disagree. Just this morning, my battery temp was showing 25 degrees when I got the typical reboot. I am going with the memory issue.

The Sense reboots are driving me crazy. In my case it happens mostly using the same apps, ie GV, Browser, Market, etc. It seems like lately is happening more often. I hope they could come with another maintenance update. IMO Sprint should address this issue pronto. It. Is very annoying to have a faulty device when it is not because ones misuse.
Thanks for letting me vent.
