Serious issues with LG 960/ Nexus4 screen

No one is belittling anyone. The OP has said that it even had the "screen protector that came with the phone" on his nexus 4 when it fell, and we are letting him and you know it is NOT a screen protector, it is a piece of plastic. You can find them on a bunch of new things you buy. The plastic that covered the screen of your TV? It wasn't for protecting it against falls. Like you said it will protect the phone from minor scratches, but the OP thought that it should have also provided some protection from the fall, which it will not.
Btw the screen feels so much better without the plastic on it and the front is gorilla glass so you won't have to worry about it scratching. If you wanna keep the plastic on the back on though, maybe that'd be a good idea because the back scratches very easily.

Yeah, but you couldn't use the device using your strategy. I used mine for at least a couple months with the shipping plastic on it. It protects the screen from scratches and doesn't affect the sensitivity at all. Just because it doesn't meet your high standards for a "screen protector", not sure why you feel the need to belittle the people it works/worked for...

Well the next time you bring your car in for service, and they put those plastic covers on your seats to protect them from grease and dirt, leave them there and tell other people that they are seat covers.

I'm pretty sure that's not a screen protector.. Its just the plastic they put in the device so it doesn't get scratched before you get it.. And that flimsy thing certainly won't protect the phone from a fall. If it was a screen protector then Google would have mentioned the phone came with one.. Its not so they didn't say anything about it. And Sanjay you still haven't told us what it landed on. What kind of ground? Perhaps it was uneven.

A good case will prevent many drops from damaging the phone. Will it protect it 100% of the time, no, nothing will on any smartphone.

Dropped my N4 face down onto a tiled floor last month and to my surprise it didn't crack and is still in immaculate condition and I've had it since December. No cracks or scratches. Love my N4 and looking forward to the nexus 5 or whatever it will be.
