Guy over in another forum said that he believed that both the G3 and many stereos have "load sensing circuitry". If they don't sense a load, they won't hook up. If both devices are "sensitive-types"- you might not get a hookup! The "ground-loop" cord tries to solve the problem from that approach. The G3 "sees" a load there and hooks up.
Serious sound issues through LG G3 headphone jack/AUX!

I use a pair of Yurbuds Explorer headphones, and they sound great. I played music via Bluetooth through my '13 Chevy Cruze, and it worked great. Maybe there is a software update available for your vehicle. I have seen that be the issue on more than one occasion back when I worked in wireless.
I too have the AUX problem although to be clear my deivce connects fine to the car AUX it is just the horrible static and loud popping sound i get between tracks and when the music stops.
I did find something interesting though!
If you play music through one music player app (stock music app for example) and then go to another music player app (i used rocket player app) the popping sound will dissapear but only for about 10 seconds. You can skip tracks no problem with no popping sounds but after the 10 seconds it will go back to the horrible popping?

What works for me is I start paying music on my G3, plug the cord into it, then lick the other end and immediately connect it. Works every time. I guess your saliva completes the circuit long enough to get it to work.
I do agree through, I've had tens of devices that use aux cables, since CD days, and I've never had to go through this.

I've had some of these problems since I got my UK G3. However, I don't get any problems when using a cable with inline mic/volume controls (i.e the stock headphones or my Beats).
Using a regular Monster AUX cable through my car stereo I get the popping between tracks, but no static.
On my stereo at my flat (using a 3.5mm to red/white AUX connection) I get the popping obnoxiously loud, but no static.
However, at my parents (coincidentally on 12+ year old LG stereo) I use a cheap 3.5mm to red/white AUX cable and get both popping and static.
Basically, I reckon the solution is to use a 3.5mm to 3.5mm AUX cable with inline mic to solve the issue. I've no technical evidence behind it but works for me!

The "Nose-Reducing" 3.5mm cord works too, although I still get the "computer language noises" in the left channel on quiet passages. The G3 has a problem with either impedance (of the load) over- sensitivity. That's my uneducated guess.
Why they couldn't do the standard mechanical/electrical connection that has been on transistor radios, cassette players and walkmans for the last 90 years, I do not know. A perfect case of simple being perfect, but then make it "better" and completely mess it up. You'd think the engineers had more important things to devote their time to.
The LG G3 has Apt X Bluetooth. It is CD quality when used with the right bt headphones or bt speakers etc.

And again ... and again ... and again ... sometimes works - then stops working ... again and again ...
Now what i want to try tomorrow is:
I have a headset with removable cable. On both ends jack. If i insert it into the phone sees it as headphones ... then i can unplug the other end from the headset and insert it into the AUX in the car stereo.
Has anyone tried this ? Any luck ?

FINALLY I THINK I FIXED IT
So Basically I tried restores, and i swapped phones, as well as cables. The original poster is right. It senses if headphones are in verses auxiliary but what it seems to do it for is for output volume. It lets you raise the volume significantly higher for headphones than aux. Dumb in my opinion. I tried 2 store models and it works fine with them but like i said I had two so I called T-Mobile to complain and while on the call the plugged in aux cable suddenly showed up again in my status bar. It stayed even after the call and the music that was playing through the speaker continued but though the aux then. So I tried it several more times. If you use the phone to call first it will pop the aux into action if its plugged in and then remain active. I suggest trying it.
I almost returned my phone because I spend about an hour a day in the car and thats what it gets used for most. I hate that I have to do that but I also don't like any phone nearly as much as this phone in any other respect.

Had a very disappointing drive from Lincoln to Liverpool today consisting of f***ING abysmal sounds as specified throughout this thread. My old Galaxy s2 never had this issue.
I use an aux connection in my truck and ive had none of the reported issues.
