Should I be Concerned with the recent virus and malware attacks

Was going to follow your instructions with ODIN seems to be the easiest and quickest way right?

Am I able to do this and as it states this will not wipe data right(data meaning my apps,emails or email settings and all texts.

Oh and im on - 2.1 update 1 (still)

2.6.29
SCH-I1500.EA28

Unfortunately it is best if you don't use that one. build EA28 is Eclair and it is best if you use the wipe version to avoid any problems.

Yes I did read it!

So Im really thinking of rooting now just have a few questions, and seeing that SC 2.8 has some malware protection I feel a little better about doing so.

1. Can go straight to super clean 2.8 from bone stock?

2. What apps do you reccommend to back all my stuff up?(think I read somewhere shouldnt use Titanium Backup)

3. Is therea way to go to SC 2.8 with out wiping all my data?

it depends where you are at now and how you do it,,if you are going to use Odin they you can load from anywhere

if you are going to use clockwork you need to update to at lease DL09

you can check your build by going to

Settings>about phone? baseband and build number

After all the recent virus and malware attacks I called Samsung today and expressed my concern to why we should have at the very least 2.2.

They said not to worry and dont believe everything you read on the internet! They told me to also put anti virus software on my phone, should this be done? I even told them this was a release from google that all carriers and manufactures should update to at least 2.2.

My concern is because my phone is used for business as well as pleasure but I do get confidential docs.

Do I have to worry one of virus and two that my phone could be hacked?(dont know if thats possible)

I wouldn't be concerned, but an opportunity to learn more about mobile security is here for sure.

oh lilhussler, im sorry i thought you were already on superclean i didnt realize you were on build EA28

the reason you need to wipe from EA28 is because if you dont your phone will go nutso

if you were already on superclean (lets say) 2.6 you could move to 2.8 with no worries

thats my fault im sorry...

as for cwm dont worry about that for now as long as you are using odin...im working on a tutorial that i shoule have up tomorrow or thursday that will help everyone with that

best way is by opening up exchange and copying all the settings down,,,,there is no way with any method available to us for you to upgrade without wiping, it will cause problems and your phone will go crazy with force closes and ultimately you will have to wipe regardless

Going from stock 2.1 to 2.2 you will need to fully wipe data and cache no matter what ROM you flash. You're replacing the OS, so you don't want anything from the previous OS to get left behind and cause conflicts

OY~ As we move more to a digital format for our lives, pick pockets will revert from slight of hand and lean to hackers. Serious? Not sure there huh? I am sure others are.....we will all get a virus in our lives, the digital fittest will survive those attacks, while the others get split. Please read DroidXcon's response again, I have linked it here with your new questions. He never said you could use the non wipe version, he said, "it depends where you are at now and how you do it,,if you are going to use Odin they you can load from anywhere" He posted this response before you asked about using the non wipe version. He IS saying you can use ODIN.

I am suggesting that version because you are coming from and Eclair build (EA28) and if you do not wipe your phone you are extremely likely to experience all kinds of problems.

Yes, take your time, read carefully, and follow his instructions in his thread to the letter. His ODIN packages are definitely the easiest way to get to Froyo.

I would not worry about CWM for now. Let's just take this one step at a time. You can use DroidXcon's ODIN package to get to Froyo, then later on we can walk you through CWM, what it is, and how to use it.

Open up your exchange email account settings and write them down so that when you set everything back up you can do it yourself rather than having your admin do it and asking questions

I am new to android but am pretty computer savy, just worry cause of my job asking questions as to why I need permissions again to set my phone up to email ect. ect.

Thanks to all!!! I think I am now ready to make this move just wish I didnt have to be up at 5 am now!!! So it will have to wait till tomorrow unless I take my cords to work and do this!! I really want to learn this android sysytem and do my own mods but not to software making themes and icons since they seem to be a lil more easier!! But thats a whole different story and different thread!!! LOL!! Hope you all are here then!! I cant find any info on it! And all I know so far is there created using png files.

I just wish you all lived near by I'd def buy yous all some beers!!!!

I take it this is a work phone you are talking about? I wouldn't worry too much about doing this. DroidXcon's ODIN packages make getting more out of your phone pretty much fool proof. And as you can see there is a ton of support here to help you through the process and any problems or questions you may have.
