Should I get a Galaxy watch?

Hi all,

I've currently got a Fitbit Versa, but recently started looking at the Galaxy Watch. It looks really tempting, but not too sure if I should change. It looks abit costly, so wanted to ask for your thoughts.

Please share what you need the watch for and what functionality you expect to make it a perfect watch for you and we can give a tailored advise. In general I'd say the GW is great on looks and hardware / battery life. The firmware has improved but still needs some improvement, depending on what you want to do with it.

hmm, actually it's more day-to-day wear. for work, going out etc. As long as it tracks basic steps count, heart rate and health measures that's fine.
Battery has to be good though.. I don't want to be having to charge the watch every other day. The Versa has quite good battery life. about 4-5days per charge. Only thing is that it looks a bit too casual for me. I'm hoping to get something that is a bit more formal.

My wife has recently got the 42mm rose gold Galaxy watch and she loves it, it would do around 3 days on the battery but she charges it every other, I'm still on the fence however, I may get the Note 10 in August but I want to see if there are any pre order goodies, or a new watch maybe.

I use my Gear S3 every day. One of the things I like about it vs something like a Fitbit, is that I can throw a leather band or metal band on for work and then a sport band on for the gym or yard work. I can make it work in any situation.

It's also held up extremely well over the almost two years that I've had it. No scratches and I wear it for everything. I'm a desk jockey during the day, but I workout, coach baseball, hike, maintain a sizable yard and am on the go 24/7 pretty much. I got my money out of it, in my opinion. I can't tell you if you will or not, but that's my experience.

Oh yeah, even after almost two years, I get a solid two days out of a charge if I want it. I throw it on the charger while I get ready for work or if I'm sitting reading late at night and that's enough to keep it charged. I wear it for sleep tracking as well..

The 46mm bluetooth version sounds perfect for you. The battery life varies between 3 and 6 days depending on the settings (Always On Display on or off has the biggest influence) active apps and the watch faces you use.
Basic health monitoring is covered but needs to mature for serious use.

The looks are up to you of course to like, but even there you have options, there are accessories out there to pimp the watch with.

Ok I caved in and bought the 46mm on Amazon!
Really like the wife's 42mm and it looks great.
Mine won't be used for work however, I cant wrap it up like my Note 9 in the building trade so it will be for out of work hours/weekends;)

I've got the LTE version with T-Mobile...

Regarding the health stuff, the Galaxy Watch is actually really good. It'll track your steps and heart rate, but it will track quite a few workouts as well as your burned calories, sleep tracking, and a few other things. I've got some friends with Fitbits (just the regular band) and the Galaxy Watch seems to be far better than these. I'm a pretty big time jogger and fitness junkie, and the Galaxy Watch has been great for tracking my workouts, recording my food/water intake, and other such things.

It's a great watch for work and going out, since it'll give you notifications and play music, and can use regular watch bands so that you can tailor it to any occasion.

As to battery life, if you use always on display you'll get almost two days out of it, and will likely have to charge it in the evening on the second day. It's about 2 hours and 20 minutes to charge, so this isn't a big deal. If you don't use AOD or use it more sparingly, you'll probably get three days out of it. Maybe more, but I'm not sure because I've always used AOD. People here who have the BT-only version report longer battery life. Based on the figure you've cited I think the LTE version has a slightly worse battery life than your Versa, and the BT version is on par with the versa.

Now about looking formal. I'm a scientist and wear jeans and a sweater to work so what do I know about this? That said, on those rare occasions when the execs come to our office, I'd have no compunction about throwing a leather band on my watch and wearing it with a formal suit. You can get pretty nice leather bands with quick release bars on Amazon for less than $10 (not even specific to smartwatches!), so you wouldn't really need to spend anything to accessorize. The watch itself looks like a watch rather than a fitness band. It's round and has a metallic body. The black bezel looks a little weird, but still not too far out of the realm of what I'd consider a "traditional" watch. So yeah, I think it's appropriate for formal settings.

1. Yes
2. No
3. No
4. Yes
5. No but does sync with Google Calendar if it is set up in S Calendar on phone
6. Yes if you use Gear Tracker, then it's user definable per exercise. Not sure about S Health as it's rubbish and I haven't used it for ages. But if S Health doesn't do this, you could install 'I am Alive' and keep the screen on that way. But I would steer well clear of S Health for fitness tracking and install Gear Tracker. It's amazing and new version out very soon.

I've had to change my opinion. In one week's time, the watch went from having rock-solid HR to first requiring a restart every 2-3 days, to daily, to every few hours this AM.

I've decided to return my watch.

If you connect Gear Tracker to Strava, the log uploads to Strava. You can export from Strava as a GPX or TCX file. Instructions here:

https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sou...Vaw1ga1kC9nI_jarf2_mpMbik&cshid=1557007801365

Alternatively, if S Health on phone is connected to Strava as a 'connected service', in settings, then once Gear Tracker has synced and uploaded to Strava, it will then sync to S Health. (This usually happens the next day due to Strava server rules; Gear Tracker has no control over this). Once it's in S Health on phone, open the activity and scroll all the way down. You'll see an 'Export as GPX' button.

I don't know of a watch app that can open GPX files. But you already have the log which you can view (and customise that view) in Gear Tracker, so why would you want to?
