Should I get a Nexus or get something else?

I've had my heart set on getting a Galaxy Nexus when it came out in December. After reading numerous reviews of poor battery life and data reception, I chose to keep using my current device for a while.
I used to visit this forum daily, and saw numerous complaints. As I scroll through the forum now, I don't see as many threads about poor battery life and reception. Is the Nexus still plague with those problems? I wasn't sure if users stopped talking about those issues, or if recent updates have addressed those concerns.

There are problems with the phone. It just depends how tolerant you can be. Maybe hold off a bit to see if the phone sees an update.

The only issue I have with it is it slowly switching from like wifi to 3g or to 4g and sometimes itll get stuck on no data at all and ill have to either reboot it or switch on and off from airplane mode. annoying ik

Well I personally represent 4 cases.
3 times I have exchanged one GN for another and they all had similar issues. I don't consider myself that lucky so if 4 out of 4 had problems to me it means most of them do

You have a unique definition for the term majority.

I've never had any issues with my GN. If you want to have the latest version of Android, or you want to root and install a huge assortment of ROMs (running even newer versions of Android) and don't like Verizon forcing you to have a bunch of bloat apps bogging down your phone, get the GN. If none of things bother you, get whatever device is most appealing to you. They all run well.

I love my GN and would certainly buy one again, but if the Motorola Fighter is going to be the Razr Maxx with ICS it may be worth the wait.

Either way, you are never going to buy a perfect phone, and a better one will always be right around the corner.

Verizon should recall GN
It takes 3-4 phone exchanges to get one that kinda works.
Radios in the GN are garbage.
Get the Maxx or wait for the Fighter

It all depends on what you are looking for. Posting a question like this in a forum like this, will generally get you responses that favor this type of phone. If you post the same exact question in the Razr forums, you'll get answers that favor that particular phone, the same goes with the Rezound or most any other phone.

If you are looking for a phone that uses the current version of Android, has a spectacular screen, and a large screen. This is the phone for you. If you are looking for a phone that has a rather long battery life (especially for the smartphone world), the Razr Maxx is the phone to choose.

I like my Nexus but with a few new phones that should be coming out soon, I'd wait unless you can get a killer deal. I haven't had many of the issues that others have said they are having but I have had a few of my own. I've had the nexus for a little over 3 months and the only problems I have had were 1. On ONE of my 1000s of calls (I use my phone for work and personal use) there was a loud and screeching sound. I ended the call and reset the phone, haven't heard it since. 2. Just this past wednesday no one could hear me, even with bluetooth. Restart phone, haven't had the problem since. I have the 2100mah battery and it lasts me from the time I go to the gym 4:45am til I get home from work, usually around 6-7pm with about 20% battery life left. I am in a strong 4G area (los angeles) so its not usually going back and forth between 4/3/1x but when it does, that can be a mood changer as it takes forever sometimes and I end up putting it on airplane mode and then back off and im good to go. I had LOW expectations for this phone when reading all of the problems but it has been probably the most solid phone I have had as of late. (thunderbolt and charge before)

I love my GN, there isnt a phone out right now i would trade it for. If the fighter launches with a 4.6" screen, hd screen and a MAXX sized battery running ICS, then maybe id consider switching just for better battery life and better radios.

It doesn't have to be the case for everyone to warrant a recall.
No other phone subforum lists the same set of problems by so many members.

It isn't even a case for the majority. You are aware that these forums constitute a tiny percentage of users, aren't you?

I find myself getting bored with the Nexus, so I'm not sure how much longer I'll be with it. I have contemplated (more than once) selling the Nexus on ebay and getting a RAZR Maxx, but haven't pulled the trigger yet. Forthcoming handsets from AT&T are also drawing my eye.

Well I personally represent 4 cases.

But it would have to be for a majority.

Based on the replies, I see some are still having issues with it. I saw quite a few bad reviews for it on the Verizon website, buy I wasn't sure if those were from first time smartphone or Android users. Getting the same or similar reviews from a forum where true Android users hang out is something I should keep in mind.
The Maxx has numerous positive reviews on the Verizon site, as well as this site. I do like the multi tasking abilities of the Nexus. I noticed how I could edit or add a contact in the address book. If I went back to the address book, I could continue where I left off. No other phone I've tried can do that. It's an awesome feature, but I'm not sure it's worth it if problems still plague the device. I'll see what others report after the next update is pushed out.

Whoa. Someone failed statistics.

You are not a majority of users. You cannot generalize your experience to everyone else. I am on my original Nexus and have had no issues that needed an exchange. You will find (very quickly) that you are, by far, in a minority.

The Maxx is a very good device. If I was able, I would have one alongside my Nexus.
