Should I get the Note 3?

Hey guys, so I'm up for a new phone (end of contract) this month, but had my eyes on the new Nexus 7 (2nd Gen.) tablet as well.
So long story short: should I get the note 3 (will this fulfill my desire of wanting a tablet?) or should I get another smartphone (thinking S4, HTC One, etc.) and the Nexus 7 (2nd Gen.)?

Thanks in advance!

Best phone I ever had and I upgrade every year

I left the iPhone for the Note 3 and haven't regretted it for one second. Go for it.

Great phone. Give it a week and you'll wonder why you waited so long.

Note 3. You get the best of both worlds.

It can be a PITA carrying to devices plus you have the advantage of having THE best (replaceable) battery life and expandable memory with microSD.

i had the same expectation when I got the GN3 and sold my GTAB.

does it replace the tab? no

is it close? I guess

The truth is, after using GN3, I find GS3 and 4 too small.

Just go for it. This is the best phone that I have owned and won't be able to go back to those smaller screens!

I was also looking at the HTC One, but considering the issues I've had with past HTC products, (three thunderbolts, a Rezound, and a few windows based Touch Pros), I figured it was time for a change. I haven't regretted it thus far.

Get the note 3 first and if you still want a tablet then get that afterwards.

Oh and no battery removal + no expandable memory = deal breaker for me on the HTC One.

I think you have some other options. How about the Note 10.1 2014 AND the Note 3..... if price total is too high.... Maybe go for the Note 2. You still get great features on a phone and to have all the features of the 3 on a large screen has to be awesome!

I use both a Note 10.1 and the Note 3.
The Note 3 is for portability. There was just no way I was going to be lugging around my tablet everywhere I went. The Note 3 is great, fast, responsive, and very portable. I use it at work all the time to take notes and sync them to Evernote.
But if I'm going to be heading somewhere and I know I will be taking lots of notes I take the Note tablet. I simply like writing on it more then the phone. Don't get me wrong, the phone is great for note taking, but I have more room to breath on the tablet.
I will bring both along if I'm out and about but on-call for something. I had to use them just last weekend when I was out and a call came in. I had to get to something on my desktop at work. So I fired up the Note tablet, put the phone in tether mode. Wrote my notes on the tablet. Fired up the Citrix client on the tablet to remote desktop to my computer at work and got the information that I needed.

It was just as easy as me sitting at my desktop computer at home.

Could I have done it all on the phone. Yeah, but I really don't want to think about the amount of squinting that would be going on trying to open a Citrix session to a remote desktop on a 5" screen. It may work for some people. But not for me. But if I had no other choice I'm sure it would still work. I just wouldn't be happy about it. This also just depends on the person as well.

Thanks for the overwhelming of replies! I'm thinking of getting the Note 3, but had two last (hopefully) question:
1. Do you ever get tired of holding up your phone when making a call? Like, let's say, you are talking to someone for an extended period of time (15+ minutes)?
2. Because of the size of the "phablet", when sitting and the Note 3 is in your pocket, does it ever irritated/annoy/get in the way of you sitting comfortably? (Ex: I'm at the movies and I don't want to take my Note 3 out of my pocket, will I be able to enjoy to the movie comfortably?)

Thanks again!

Get the new Nexus 5 and don't sign another contract. Stay w/your carrier month-to-month, or explore prepaid options. If you can afford it, get the N7, too. I have the wifi-only one which I use a lot at home. The extra real estate is awesome.

The Note 3 is a great device. If you're set on that and can handle the upfront cost, consider paying full price for an unlocked version and not signing another contract. Yeah, steep, but if you take care of it, you can sell it in a year or two. The net won't be much different from the subsidized price, and you won't be tied to a contract. I don't know your plan or payment, but there are many cost-effective prepaid options that consumers should at least consider.

Good luck w/whatever you decide.

I've had my Note 3 for a little over 2 weeks now and I'm extremely happy with it!!

I've seen reports of problems. .. but fortunately I got a good one that functions perfectly.

There isn't a single phone out there I'd rather have!!!

Used iPhone since Apple had the very first iPhone. Hv to kill me to go back to iPhone. Note3 is so cool, great pics, fast, etc etc, too much to be listed here. Go for it. No regrets. :)
