Should I get the Razr or the Galaxy Nexus?

Topheavy is pretty much that the top is heavier then the bottom that compiled with the width makes it a little cumbersome for one handed operation

I agree with the poster that said not to make your choice based on ICS. It's still buggy and although the updates come, they still take some time. Plus, apps are still being updated to work on ICS so there are still many out there that do not yet work on the GN.

IMO, the most important issues are build quality and signal strength. The hardware specs are similar. Software and firmware can be updated, the hardware can't.

I thought the Rezound could do that as well.

I owned the Thunderbolt so I knew from first hand that's why I stated that, the Rezound is similar to the Thunderbolt so I wouldn't be surprised if it to allowed surf and talk over 3G as well.

Hello everyone! I'm new!=D

Anywayz...I have been having the same dilemma about which phone to choose between these two. Today i finally got to play with both devices. Here are my impressions:
Software and UI
Looks better, and is more intuitive on the GNex. ICS does not seem too hard to learn. I have a honeycomb tablet so that may be why I dont find it too hard to adjust to. It actually was no adjustment at all for me. Im not a fan of the aesthetics of Motos U.I, but they really do minimize it.
Camera
The camera quality is close, with a slight edge to the GNex. The Gnex also has a more pleasant camera software, zero shutter lag.
Web Browsing
A slight edge to the Gnex for its use of tab browsing and the size of the screen.
Hardware
The Gnex feels better in the hand BUT is very light and cheap feeling. Also there was tape on the battery cover to keep it from coming off at the store :/ The razr has sd card slot as we already know, its very thin and maybe slighty awkward in the hand BUT the build quality and effort of the device is wonderful. I feel like this phone can last a while (unless you get a white one which may show scratches more) The screen on the Gnex is slightly better..The Razr is a little dark, but not too noticable honestly.
Performance
The Gnex is fast but i think the Razr is faster and smoother! Some parts of ICS still seem a little choppy towards..me idk you really have to go in there and try it to see what i mean.
All and all i think I myself am going to go with the Razr for Moto's radio rep. the gNex is a beautiful device, but i feel in two years itll be all beat up! lol its time i learn how to root.

Thanks for the feedback but I am curious how/why you consider the GNex camera to be better than the Razr? Everyone I know that has them or reviews I've read say the camera on the GNex sucks and the Droid Razr is solid... but obviously people have different experiences so I was hoping you could elaborate. Thanks!

They looked pretty even to me, but then again I was in VZW store with a lot of lighting. From the pics i took with the Gnex it ddnt seem that bad but thats with only a few moments of use.

Ya I wou ld say looking at pics on each separate phone the 3megapixel difference would not be that noticeable the higher dpi on the gx screen would compensate for the lower megapixels.

Get both and give me one. I will either get an extra RAZR and sell it for a G nex or I will have a free G Nex...:p

Seriously....It really depends on whats more important to you. Even before all this signal issue mess going on...

Samsung usually had weaker phone reception than Moto.

Samsung usually had a leg up in the multi media dept.
Samsung usually had a leg up in the cpu/gpu dept
.
Moto usually had a leg up in the build quality dept.

The G Nex is a straight dev phone, will be extremely easy to add custom ROMs and kernels.
The RAZR is locked down in that dept. ROMs will come, but it will be easier on the G Nex.

Really just depends on what you want from your phone. Me personally I went with the RAZR. I will probably stay a Motorola fan just because I value making and receiving calls in bad reception areas more than anything else. The RAZR has other stuff nice about it too tho. Basically whatever you choose you really cant go wrong.

I have to agree. I've had my Razr for almost 2 weeks now. But I'm going to be returning it for the Nexus.

Although both screens are similar, I have a slight visual problem so even a minor difference make a big difference to me. What I noticed is that the Nexus screen is noticeably easier on my eyes and easier to read the text. I find the Razr text a little fuzzy ... and close-ups posted by DroidLife (at least to my eyes) confirm the difference.

I considered the Rezound, but personally find it way overpriced ... unless Beats Audio is a must-have. Granted, I find Rezound has the sharpest text to me, the LCD screen is just way too hard on my eyes in my bright sunny climate. The Amoled screen makes it easier for me to actually see something on the screen when I'm outside.

Plus, I like to root my phones. The Razr may or may not get a recovery file. In fact, a dev just today trashed his Razr. Normally his local VZW store would use the factory fastboot file to fix things up for him. But he had no luck, as his contact there told him a new VZW policy is that ONLY a store manager can now have access to the factory recovery file. Sounds like they really want to do all they can to prevent it getting leaked out to users.

So, all in all, I'll be using the screen a lot, its a noticeable difference to me. Nexus wins for me. I prefer a phone without a manufacturer's overlay (i.e. MotoBlurry, Senseless, or TouchMyWhizzerPlease). Nexus is a win for me. My wife has a Samsung phone and we see no signal issues in our area. Tie between Razr and Nexus. I want to safely root and tweak with a safety net (recovery file). Nexus is a win for me since there is no assurance a recovery file will be leaked when access to it is being locked up so tight.

If the Razr had an unlockable bootloader, I'd stay with the Razr in a flash. But considering all the above, the Nexus best meets my needs at this present time. And if if if things change, I can always sell my Nexus on eBay and pick up a different device down the road.

Lol. There are many questions, that's why he asked.

I'm not going to bash the GN, but I'll just leave it at both of these phones have their pluses and minuses. If you don't belive me just read the threads on this forum for both phones?

Support alone is reason enough to go with the nexus. Good luck getting any updates on the RAZR, especially with Motorola releasing a phone a month.

I have more than just a slight visual problem so this is very helpful info to me!

For me, "slight" might actually be an understatement ... doc just told me this week may need to do surgery in 2012. And I've done vision therapy due to problems getting my eyes to work together as a team. So I need to squeak out every little bit of screen advantage that I can get.

By the way, below is the link for some close-up screen comparisons between the Nexus, Rezound and Razr. Granted these are close-ups, which accentuate differences, but when my eyes are feeling ready to be soaked in ice water, these kind of differences stand out to me. But which is better for each individual's eyes may vary ... this just helped me confirm what I saw with my own eyes and helped sway my decision to swap for the Nexus:

If the Rezound wasn't an LCD screen, I'd probably opt for it. So it really came down to a Razr vs. Nexus screen in my case.

Thanks! What do you like better about the AMOLED v. LCD? I thought the AMOLED looked brighter and just better, but I couldn't figure out other than brightness why I preferred the AMOLED.

Both razr and galaxy are Samsung screens. The colors are more saturated and look more vibrant. Also black levels on an OLED device are much deeper because the molecule reaction is turned off.

On an LCD screen it requires a light source behind the screen so black looks somewhat gray not pure black. So colors don't pop as much.

As with any question of this nature, YMMV (your mileage may vary). But in my case, three things I liked: 1.) I'm finding that its easier to see an AMOLED screen, especially when looking at the screen from an angle. 2.) I was thrilled that I could take a picture outdoors while actually seeing what I was taking a picture of (i.e. being able to 'frame' the area of the photo rather than taking a wild guess). 3.) Its nice to be able to more easily see the AMOLED screen in the car, such as when using Navigation, or reading an email when outdoors, which was very hard for me to see with an LCD screen.

One thing I did in the store, fortunately having LCD and AMOLED phones side by side, was to hold them up and then pivot them around in my hand. The LCD was great when looking straight at it, but angled, the glare or reflection made it harder for me to see the screen. By contrast, the AMOLED was much easier to see even at a significant angle.

All very important to me, thanks!
