Should I make the Design my next phone?

Hello Design users. I'm a long time Android Central user, CDMA. I've bounced around on different Sprint MVNOs. I've always been using the LG Optimus S/V, and it's worked great. Hard to beat the Optimus bang for the buck, and the dev community is (or was at one time) pretty extensive.

But alas, the Optimus is getting more and more long in the tooth, and it's hard to find a used Optimus these days. Which is why I have my eye on the Evo lineup. The Evo has a range of models, and they aren't too hard to find. So, I'm planning on switching from my old Optimus to the Evo.

The question I have is which Evo to go with? I have my eye on the 4G, the Design, and the 3D. Each one has it's own personality. Personally, I like the styling of the Design, the fact that it has ICS, and that it's not too large. But to be completely honest, I'm a little bit underwhelmed by the community. It seems like the Design never got to be as widespread and popular as the Optimus was. Perhaps that's just a necessary tradeoff.

Is the Design a good phone? Should I be worried about the smaller user community? Should I go with the 4G instead, or the dual core 3D, or just wait for the next CDMA generation? I know I'm asking a lot of questions here, but any insight is appreciated.

i would wait if you can. rumor has it the M7 is coming out soon and heard Sprint was testing it.
Its kinda funny your talking about the optimus, I have 3 that im about to list on ebay...lol
My choice between the 3d or the OG i would go with the 3d. i never had the Design so i cant comment on that, its the only evo i havn't had

Haha! Thanks for the input. That's funny that you are selling 3 Os on Ebay. I live in Tucson, and the listing for Optimus's has just dried up. They used to be as common as the rain on Craigslist, but not anymore. I'm seeing a lot less of the Optimus, but tons of Evos! I figure, if that's what people are selling, no sense in clinging to the Optimus.

I also checked the 3D, but I guess I like the Design a little better, because it's a bit slimmer and lighter, and it doesn't have that ugly dual camera pod. The original Evo was released in 2010, but the design came out in in 2011. The SoC is slightly better and it has ICS. That's why I'm looking at it. But like I said, the dev community never really got behind it like the 3D and 4G.

I think I may hold on for a little longer. The M7 is supposed to be unveiled tomorrow. I'd love to pick up something from HTC that has a Snapdragon S4 SoC. :)

You know if I unlock the Boost version of the Design 4G will I be able to put a T-Mobile USA SIM into it?
It's listed as a quad-band world phone...

Thanks for the help.

Why would you want to do that? If you're on GSM, there's better options. Like the Nexus 4.

I've got the Nexus 4 as well as the S3 & GNex.
I get sent phones every few months but this is my first from Boost....so just wondering if it's doable.

Can I just unlock it via standard unlocking sites then pop in a GSM SIM from a North American carrier?
It won't be my primary device, just want to know if it'll work.

I've never heard of anyone doing that lol. I don't know tbh, I don't know but I'd doubt it.

Wow that's a lot of phones!

Ya & this year it'll grow by another 6 (including the Evo Design that I got 2 weeks ago):
-BB Z10
-Nexus 5
-Galaxy S4
-iPhone 5S
-a WP8 phone I haven't chosen yet

I try getting at least 1 of each relevant OS per year...before WP was cheaper at only 3 but now it's usually 4 or 5, LoL.

Don't think my wallet can support another new OS *looking at you, Ubuntu!*
