Thanks for the quick answer. I'm not sure if the above procedure roots my phone as well or is this done only after rooting. If so, what procedure do I use to root? And what do I do first? dk28 or root? Thanks for tolerating my ignorance!

Follow the instructions and install the ROM. I can't remember exactly which version this is. Best way to find out is once your up and running goto your apps and see if you have an application called Superuser listed. If you do then this is mostlikely the prerooted/Stock DK28 Froyo.

So I guess the answer now is to wait a couple of more weeks. I'm hoping the latest rumor of the Feb 22 froyo update is accurate. I know many have moved on already, but another couple of weeks for those who are still running 2.1 is not too much to ask.
