Silent Mode

I am a new user to the droid. When on silent mode I know all notifications are silent but is there a way to exclude a contact so any messages received vibrate? Is there any possible way to do this. I am tired of getting random notifications but when on silent I miss the important ones I need. Any help would be appreciated, thanks

I am mainly concerned about text messages, but anything else would be nice. I guess I'm just looking for some kind of exception while using silent mode
