Simple Fast Root Method And A Rooted 1.47.651.1 Stock ROM with NO ADBs...Check Here!

I know a lot of you enjoyed the unrEVOked1 one click rooting process. Pretty slick, and then unrEVOked2 came out and bam! Fast fully rooted with unlocked NAND! Well after reading and reading for a process that is simple or to the same and keeping the stock ROM...it looks like I've found a process. This is for people that updated to the official OTA 1.47.651.1. Plus this process involves NO ADBs! The fully rooted stock 1.47.651.1 includes updated radio, no need to do it separately and chance screwing up the radio.

First head over here.
[Program] SimpleRoot OTA 1.47.651.1 Edition - xda-developers

Then head over here.
How to start over: Fully rooted stock 1.47.651.1 in one shot (no adb!) - xda-developers

credit to jiqqaman and whitslack for their hard work over at the xda forums!

I thought it might help some of the less brave or less computer savvy members of the Androidcentral forums to put this in one spot. I know I searched for a while looking for this exact "process" to get my phone basically like it was before the update with unrEVOked1, but now with the advantages of the update.

***Things to double check before asking for help***

This is a very simple root, but for you excited jittery folks, when something doesn't work check below.

*Make sure you have phone set to charge only and debugging mode is enabled.

*Make sure you click on the actual command window when step 1 tells you to press any button to continue...then push the any button. That screen will turn red from black. If you don't click on the command window before pressing a button, it will just close that window and will not finish step 1.

*Make sure you turn on Wifi and have a connection to a Wifi network before step 3. 3G just doesn't load the flash file fast enough for Simple Root

*If you get to step 4 and it just hangs there for more than 30 second start over at step 2.

*READ EVERYTHING SIMPLE ROOT IS TELLING YOU TO DO

No...you'll use a ROM manager. It's not much of a read head on over there and have a gander!

dude....

there is a OTA simple root thread 4 posts down.

I realize this Liquid...but I felt like it would be nice to post a "process" that included the stock rom for people that don't really want to flash custom roms and stay basically they way they are now, and as similar as they were with unrEVOked1 with out having to do any ADB stuff. The OTA Simple Root thread 4 posts down doesn't give you direct link to the Stock Rom in the OP, it's just the rooting process. I guess maybe I can see how it's perceived as dumb, because people should read and research. But I was just trying to save people some time and put a "process" in the OP that resembled the way their phone was when people were using unrEVOked1. Maybe I should put the combined process in the OP like you did on the "Latest OTA rooted!" thread?

root

Nah, you were right. I havent rooted since unrevoked1 and kinda intimidated by the process. The only reason I did root was to get the wireless tether. Other than that I want there isnt anything I wanted. Is battery life that much better when you put on a custom rom? Also if you root, do you have to put on a custom rom? Thanks!

Well technically they are all custom roms...but the one in the second link is as close to the stock rom as your going to get. The OP said he didn't change any thing, just enough for it to be flashed and keep you rooted.

Nah, wasn't perceiving you as dumb. Just thought it was repetitive... No worries though comrade. LOL not my job to police anyways =P

i am having real trouble understanding this whole rooting and flashing process with android. i knew how to do winmo alright and how to do patches with my pre (piece of cake) but im just lost with android even after reading all the guides and stuff.

i did the simple root and it seemed to have downgraded me to the older 1.36 but i dont believe i have root privileges (according to titanium backup).
can someone please steer me in the right direction?
here is what im looking to do.
for the time being, alls i want to be able to wifi tether, but also want to have the newest radio.
in the future though i would like to be able to flash the new froyo w/ sense rom once all the bugs are worked out.

the things that are really confusing me is:
adb
clockwork recovery (what does this do ?) where can i download it if i need it. the one link i found was dead.
exactly how do i flash a rom?

thanks in advance.

UPDATE: i just did the step 2 that tattrpuff provided and now it looks like i have the updated version but according to the titanium backup i am not rooted
UPDATE 2: ok, i guess my titanium backup is just wrong. wireless tether is working awesome. so now i just need to know what steps i need to go through to flash a custom rom

Yes this should be charge only with debugging enabled.

Seems like you have everything working...on the Titanium Backup make sure you hit the problem button and install the newest busybox...then that message will go away.

Hmmmmm....When I tried to flash the first image I get an error "Recovery Fail-PU. Partition update fail..."

I can't boot into recovery, and the Clockwork ROM manager fails too.

What did I screw up?

A full wipe? No, I don't see where I can do that...I fail at the recovery every time though...bad download?

The instructions don't say anything about a wipe...

Ok, after a LOT of reading it seems there is a problem for some people (read: me) with the recovery. They suggest removing it from the package and installing the first image. Done.

But I can't see how to install a recovery, especially since I can't get into recovery, the white HTC screen just hangs..

Any ideas?

Are you talking about flashing the stock rom or are still in Simple Root? If you are in the Simple Root, the first step requires total wipe...

So first are you through the Simple Root and rooted? This is easy to check when you boot into HBOOT the version will say .76, if it says .79 you need to start over.

If you follow the second link on the OP, that Rom includes RA's recovery...installs it with the image....after that you can use that recovery. That image puts you at a rooted stock OTA 1.47 rom. I couldn't get RA recovery flashed with Simple Root correctly, but it already has a rooted recovery, just not one that has all the options. Just make sure you follow the instruction for each developers ROMs.

So if you don't want to install the Rooted Stock 1.47 image and want Clockworks, get it in the Market. It's under ROM manager.

Thanks for the help...I think I got Clockwork, and the 1.47 rooted and go the SU to run...

I'm trying to get the ROM mangaer working, and it keeps telling me there was "an error while flashing your recovery" when I try to use it...Clockwork was what I saw on the hboot, but this no go...

I believe I am rooted, root explorer has read/write access...
