Skinned Google Messages

today, i finally got the S22 Ultra firmware update dated April 1st. i don't know why others got this update much sooner than i did, after all, it's already April 23rd!

btw, i'm unlocked S22 Ultra, bought directly from Samsung.com.

anyway, after i updated the April 1st firmware, i received a Google Messages app update. however, i noticed NOTHING NEW at all in the "Google Messages/settings/Advanced", under anything iPhone related. i still only have that one single toggle that says iPhone.

so ultimately, i'm only still able to receive thumbs up and stuff from iPhone users, but i am NOT ABLE TO REPLY with my own thumbs up, etc., to iPhone users.

however, just like previously, i have one friend who i text regularly with and he uses a Pixel and i AM ABLE TO do the reply with thumbs up, etc.

may i ask what others' experiences have been regarding this please? thanks.

I think you are able to use "reactions" with other Android users because you and them are probably both using RCS.

From what I had understood, the "reactions" feature between Android and Apple users via SMS is only one way right now, for on the receiving Android end and sending Apple end only.

My s22 ultra started to lag severely in Google messages over the last 2 weeks. Especially ones with picture in the chat. I'm trying to see if there is a fix but haven't found it.

likewise, i also have lags when a picture is sent to me (MMS).

it's not every picture, but once in a while. i get the spinning circle for a very long time and the picture just doesn't download and reveal itself, for some odd reason.

iirc, it happens BOTH with Android phones sending MMS pictures to me as well as iPhones sending MMS pictures to me.

is this commonplace? thanks.

I'm also on AT&T with a Pixel using Google messages... everything's working flawlessly including RCS. Same with my wife's Moto. I suspect it might be something to do with the way Sammy is implementing the Google messages app. Our phones are both factory unlocked though too, so no AT&T meddling with our apps.

I messed up and accidentally updated the app in the play store. Now I have the Samsung skinned app instead of the normal one I sideloaded.

This was a week ago, I lost the iPhone reactions and still do not have the option to enable them.

Does anyone have them on the skinned app? Should I keep waiting for them to show up, or try going back to the old unskinned version?

I've had them on the skinned version for a while.

Frustrating. I don't get why I still don't have the option since updating the app.

Give it a little time it will show up

I wish I had the ability to have the same options I have on my Pixel 6 Pro and Google Messages. I love how on P6P the messages has a sort feature on the main screen(all, personal, business), I miss the iPhone emojis working(no more "? liked this") and the ability to send videos without losing quality via the Google Photos link. These may appear to be insignificant if you have never had these features but you do miss them when you have had them

Not sure why Sammy chose to skin the app.

Google messages beta has the all, personal, business sort feature. It has the iphone emojis setting too

Sideload an updated version of the skinned app. I have it on the skinned app on 2 phones

That could be due to bad reception or data speeds possibly

Trying to patiently wait for 6+ weeks now lol. It's hard losing the feature after having it, especially in a group chat where ever other messages is a reaction.

Something not right, 6+ weeks is way too much

I have the updated version of the skinned app. The dynamic version I sideloaded was working on this phone until I accidently updated the skinned version in the app store. Now I get an error when I try to sideload too.

I know. Too much work to factory reset but I may try clearing all data instead of just the cache and see if that helps.

Did you uninstall updates in settings first? Settings > Apps > Messages > Three dots in upper right corner > Uninstall updates. That sounds like the issue.

Yes, I did that a few days ago. I'm giving it a week with no updates, then I plan to install the update from Google Play. If it doesn't show up after that, I'm going to uninstall updates again try sideloading again.
