Smart Manager Utility

I'm on T-Mobile and Smart Manager is on my S6 widget and all. Powered by Cleanmaster, right after the name. I've force-stopped it but Disable is grayed-out. Going to put the widget away (never use it anyway) after I post this. I can't root bc my phone is leased. Will this stop any "phoning home to China" or is there any function I should know (hint!) how to turn back on? CM is evil!

The whole idea of having an app the clears RAM as a pre installed app always made me wonder what happened at Samsung, other than cash crossing the table. As others have said in this thread...leave RAM alone. As for junk files, I think it depends on the file and where it's located. I wouldn't be surprised if Clean Master is misidentifying folders and files Android needs as 'junk'.

Since this isn't true I will give this user the benefit of the doubt and try to be gentle. This utility offers functionality and more security than any of the commercial versions that promise this functionality.

Please, explain how this application offers "more security" than other apps built on the same codebase by the same company?

The use of the word 'bloat' to describe everything that you don't understand is just naivete and not actually useful to users seeking information. This app can and will clear temp files and clutter from your device which is something you should do with caution - backups are always recommended, but this is not a malicious app, nor is it useless, it is merely a useful utility that Samsung began including last year that isn't completely understood by the aluminum foil hat crowd.

Please explain what you feel is useful functionality of this code. It uses system level permissions to override low-memory-state messages and force deletion of cached data from storage. Doing so causes cpu cycles to be used more often, disk i/o to happen more regularly, and application-level listeners to restart more often. All of these functions use more power.

Useful functions, like dynamic lmk settings or service and thread management aren't performed by this service, but would be the right way to achieve faster response to user input at the expense of overall functionality.

Everything this service, or similar stand-alone services available through Google Play, does is instantly undone by normal Linux process management, until this service decides to do it again. Service listeners and application processes required for normal functionality restart as soon as they are closed, data starts caching once again as soon as you delete it, and all a user is left with is a feeling that something good was done when all that really happened was more battery power was used to return the device to the proper operating state after this service interfered.

On my S6 Sprint phone there is a widget for Smart Manager. You can also add it to your quick settings.

You can't access it on the Sprint version, but it's definitely on the device.

Look in your widgets.

How do you access it?

let me tell u this i dont know if it what u want but u can go settings>aplication manager>smart manager>manage storage click on version number many times then a hidden option will popup i hope i helped

Be advised that cleaning junk and unused files can delete your precious pictures. Search for "pictures disappear from gallery"

I have been an Iphone user since 2007 , I have had Android tablets and Android phones in the family, and thought they were ok. Now that Jail Breaking an Iphone has become difficult I bought an inexpensive Android phone and was surprised how hard it was to root it. I wanted to root it to get rid of this Usage Manager app. I 1000000000000% hate it. It "Warns" of high battery usage because the darn phone is on. The only way to not be warned of high usage is to turn the phone off and pull the battery out LOL. Why would At&t require such a useless app to be mandatory? I want to flash the rom with a slimmed down Lollipop or other. But I can't root ( Kyocera Hydro Air) can't block the Usage Manager Notifications, So if this is android in 2016, I may not switch. If I can live with these things then I may pick up a higher end Samsung in the future.

This Usage Manager App must go though...............

Inexpensive android has poor dev, ROM, root support. Consider buying a mid range phone, unlocked instead from well known brand if you want to root.
