So as I do everyday because I'm addicted to getting more news on my new upcoming phone the Pixel XL, I've seen more than a handful of pages with rumors that the Pixel XL actually will have the newest 821 chip and the latest 7.1 Android.

I can definitely see the OS being updated right away or releasing with it but as for the chip? Do you think it's possible they actually have the latest 821 chip in? Latest and greatest is usually always the best thing in my mind and i know the chip helps even more with battery and performance.

That's the rumor, but nothing substantial yet. Also, 7.1 or 7.01 seems likely since a new API level (which goes up with every OS release/update) has already been spotted.

I'm jumping on board too. Everyday I check various sources to see what's been leaked/reported on the Pixel devices. Barring a huge disappointment in specs for the device, I'm all in. CC in hand, ready to pre-order day 1.

I just bought my OP3 and left Apple in July, but I'm ready too! As for the chip it's completely possibly they have these already and will be using them. It's possible they won't as well, but I expect we'll see the 821 in these. Keep in mind as hardware development goes, once you see it on the shelf (retail-speak) it's old already. If we know about the 821 there are likely plenty of them already on the assembly lines.

Lmao I know. You're so right. Old as soon as its out because their already working on the next best chip. But I definitely will be happy with just knowing the latest is in the phone. But of course will be good with the 820 as its amazing too.

I too anxiously await the Pixel XL/Nougat. I hope it's a winner. It's at the top of my list, but the iP7+ is close on its heels. (I've never had an iPhone, but the A10 Fusion and the long term update cycle for iOS is attractive). I sure would like to see Google revise their update cycle beyond 2 years OS/3 years security.

Yeah true. I'll never own a iPhone (just personal preference) but I seriously cant wait for more info and see the final specs ect.

I actually had considered an iPhone for the first time as a backup in case something goes terribly wrong with the new Nexus/Pixel, but the lack of a headphone jack is a dealkiller for me. If the new Nexus/Pixel line is meh, I'll just hold on to my trusty 2014 Moto X for the time being.

I was a Blackberry loyalist, had a nexus 5 but sold it. With BlackBerry hardware dying, I bought a mid-android, the Asus Zenfone 2, a big disappointment. Remembering how great the nexus 5 was, I can't wait to get my hands on the new Pixel XL. Debating on getting it day one or wait for reviews :-\

Edit: I have been waiting since April to upgrade my phone

Same here. I've been patiently(more or less) waiting for months to see what's coming out in 2016 that interests me. Especially in the Nexus line (never had one before). I've grown to appreciate the benefits of non-carrier controlled hardware... at least as far as Android is concerned.

I only wish Android could have controlled fragmentation like Apple (never had an iPhone either) and then updates wouldn't be so far behind. Right now, the Note4 and Note Edge are just receiving 6.0.1 (from AT&T). I have no interest in an update cycle that lags so far behind current OS/security levels.

While the V20 offers much that I like, it has certain things that kill it from the start. And one of them is being hobbled by both mfg (LG) and the carrier (any of the big 4) having to process OS updates (as I understand it).

Samsung lost me with the introduction of the sealed glass phones in 2015 (GS6 and Note 5), and in 2016 by introducing only edge displays on the N7. Not to mention the same delayed update cycle issue by going through both the mfg and the carrier.

I'm sometimes tempted by the OnePlus series, but mail order support doesn't appeal... and I know nothing of the Oxygen OS. (why can't they just put an unencumbered Android on it?) Motorola lost me by fudging on their update promises.

I'm quickly running out of viable contenders for my business. I'm down to the Pixel XL and the iP7+. I'm hoping that the Pixel will save me from being assimilated!

Me too. I was going to go with the Note 7 as well but don't care for the Edge gimmick. Hoping the Pixel has Qi charging.

I have a new matte black iphone 7 due to arrive on Monday. I'm debating whether to just send it back. I wish the announcement of the Google phone would hurry up!

It seems I have time to kill. I stopped by the AT&T store today to check out the iP7. They only had the iP7+ on display but had iP7 phones ready to sell. I thought maybe my daughter might take them up on the offer to swap her iP6s/64GB for a new Ip7/128GB and $100 difference. But she seems pretty content with her iP6s.

We looked at the iP7+ and the S7E. That is one gorgeous display on the S7E... but edge displays... and the update conundrum kill it for me. I have to say the iP7+ is pretty sharp and snappy, as was the S7E.

Back to the point, according to the AT&T rep, the iP7+ will not be available until sometime in November. I have no idea when the Pixel XL will be available after being announced in early October. So it looks like I will have time to kill before deciding between these two devices.

Maybe Samsung will surprise us all and release a Note7 GPE! I could be tempted, even with the minimalist edge display. :D

This may sound silly but the single biggest issue I have with iPhones is that, even after 9 years, Apple STILL won't let you plop an icon anywhere on the screen you want. You know, like if you want a nice uncluttered home screen on your iPhone #+ with a few commonly-used apps on it you need to have foot-long fingers 'cause they only allow top left to bottom right icon order. Every year just makes me want to slap my forehead...

...of course there are other issues but this one just drives me crazier than the rest for some reason.

Opening up the springboard for custom apps would have less security impact than the keyboard. One of the biggest reasons for jailbreak and Cydia a few years back was theming springboard, don't imagine it's changed now. It could happen but I doubt we will ever see it.

I'm quite happy with Nova and I'm sure it will be great on the pixel.

If you enroll in Nova Beta, you can now download an update and actually customize your home screen to look like Pixel Launcher. That's what I've done, with modifications.
