so hard to say goodbye bionic!

Actually the Bionic is releasing with 2.3.4. RAM is the same. Bionic I believe will have 16GB of storage built in.
ram hasn't been released... People are thinking its upgraded to 1 GB but no proof. Previous one at CES was at 512 and GS2 has the option of 16/32 right off the bat and extra addon available on top of that.

really??? Announce a flagship phone at CES on January 6th. Tell the world IT WILL BE released in Q2. Then wait until the End of Q2 and say, Due to feedback from consumers at CES we have decided to enhance your experience by delaying the phone until the end of August and tell you nothing between now and then...

No you are right, why anyone would be PO'd at moto is ridiculous... :-X

I agree completely. You can't tell all of your customers that your best phone yet will be release in Q2 and then wait until solidly into Q3 to get anywhere close to an actual release date. They owe us a bit of information. If they would just let us know that it will be end of Q3 or sometime in Q4 I would be much less critical of the situation. Now we hear about the GSII and Nexus Prime coming within the next few months also...I was die-hard Bionic for about 4 months, but now I will have a tough decision to make.

processor first of all is a difference of 1.0 GHz and 1.2 GHz with dual cores..

so while the 200MHz doesn't stack exactly together ( more like 290-320 MHz )

Next is the huge screen difference. SUPER AMOLED is a huge difference in the Galaxy S2 and the Bionic..

Next thing would be RAM difference and Storage difference.

To me I don't care as much about a 4.3 to a 4.5 ( supposed bionic at 4.5 ).

One another thing is that the Bionic will come with the Android 2.2 while the Galaxy S2 comes with Android 2.3 pre-installed and unlocked while Bionic will definitely be locked bootloader...

You are talking about minor differences in specs and technology. Can they make a big difference to you or another buyer? Of course, but none of what you mention is a SIGNIFICANT hardware upgrade.

Since nothing is definitely confirmed for EITHER phone (Yes SGS II is out in Europe, but we all know how VZW likes to modify things) we don't know for sure the final specs of either phone. However, all leaks point to your RAM and Storage difference thoughts being wrong. Also, given that the D3 has 2.3.4 I would say there is a 99% chance that your software version information is incorrect.

As I stated before there is no reason for anyone to say that the Bionic is releasing late with "outdated" specs if they are NOT saying the same thing about the SGSII. There will be NO phone on the market this year that will have a SIGNIFICANT bump in specs in the phone.

Everything we are talking about is a technology choice:
Pentile LCD vs. SAMOLED+ vs. LCD Stripe
OMAP 44xx vs. Exynos vs. Snapdragon
DDR vs. DDR2 RAM
etc...

You may hate one and love another, but that doesn't really make it a higher spec'd phone.

Fact of the matter is that the Nexus S is a stellar piece of equipment. Samsung knows how to build an Android device. They currently marry hardware and software like nobody's business.

If only Sammy knew how to make a notification LED and a good metal chassis like the X I would have jumped all over it. I was really hoping Moto would have been the manufacturer for the Prime for this reason alone. The only thing holding moto back on the bionic is their stupid customizations and locked bootloaders. If it does indeed come out with an unlock option I won't hesitate on this one. Or if word that the Prime will have a notification LED and a non cheap feeling plastic chassis I may hold out for it.

how can u be mad at device that isn't officially been announced? I can see being mad if this device was officially announced

The Bionic will be the First Dual Core LTE phone.. Man some people on these forums are a trip.. If I do not get it when I want it I am going to jump ship.. Some sound like little children. Whats wrong with this I want it now Generation.. :(

Exactly...

By the time the GS 2 hits the U.S. it should be considered outdated as well going by some folks logic.
And what happens IF the GS 2 has a Tegra 2? Its a decent chip but I think ppl that know about and follow the happenings in the SoC world would choose OMAP or Exynos if they had a choice.

Me...I just posted if I was on Sprint I would probably pick up the Photon with its Tegra 2 chip. If I was on AT&T I woulda been had the Atrix with its Tegra 2 chip.

I agree the Bionic is not outdated, and will still blow away the current LTE lineup. But..... and this is a LARGE BUT in my opinion, I have been waiting since the end of last year to get a new phone. I heard about the Bionic in January, knew it wouldn't be out for a while, kept waiting. Heard it was being delayed (even though Moto made up a lame excuse for it), I kept waiting, now I am expecting 8 months later we will see this phone in Sept. Sooo, we are now hearing that a release of 3 game changing phones are in the work for VZW to be released before the end of the year (not for fact). These phones that are to be released not only are rumored to have MUCH better hardware, but 720p resolution.

So to me it breaks down like this, I have waited 8 months for a good jump in technology from my OG Droid to the Bionic, Why not wait an additional 1-4 months for another good jump in technology from the Bionic to Prime? Vigor? I don't see that as being childish. Yes I am po'd at Moto for lying about the delay, and not giving us any information on this phone for the past 7 months. But to each his own.

It is childish to be upset at Moto for anything. The original Bionic was scrapped. All of you that were waiting for the original Bionic are caught up on a phone that no longer exists. Verizon and Moto should have just scrapped the Bionic name. The Targa was the original phone I was waiting for as the original Bionic was largely an unimpressive phone. NOW everyone is waiting on the Targa. Get the idea of the Bionic out of your head. Rumors of the Targa release pegged it at Q3. I was expecting to actually see it around Oct-Nov. As far as I'm concerned, it's ahead of schedule. Moto never lied about anything, they were quite up front about stating the delays. In the real world things don't always go as planned, this a prime example of that. The only thing you have to hold against Verizon (not Moto) is that they said it was releasing Summer 2011, which ends at the end of September. Wait for whichever phone you want, it doesn't affect anyone here, but coming here just to complain about Moto is ridiculous and largely just a waste of everyone's time.

I certainly don't disagree with you about waiting and seeing what the competition brings to the table. I also wouldn't disagree with someones decision to purchase the Bionic as soon as it is available. Why? Because it is entirely a personal choice and everyone has to do what is right for them.

However, I do disagree with your statement that the other rumored phones have MUCH better hardware. Other than the display, for the devices that will supposedly get 720P, there are only minor differences in hardware. If those minor differences matter to you then so be it but, just because it is important to you does not make it a major difference overall.

Wow. grow up dude. If you don't buy the bionic, then how will Motorola know that they can afford to keep pushing back a phone they announced in January and still make money off it? Show them that you're willing to wait however long it takes them--sorta like how you tell a girl you will always love her, no matter how many other guys she dates. ;)

(Really hope you guys can see the sarcasm). :)

Moto never lied about anything, they were quite up front about stating the delays.
Moto Says:
Based on compelling feedback since the show, we are incorporating several enhancements to make this an even better consumer experience. This includes expanded features, functionality and an improved form factor. Motorola Mobility and Verizon Wireless are very excited about bringing the 'new' DROID BIONIC to market.
The New DROID BIONIC: Coming Soon - Fact Sheets - Motorola Mobility, Inc.
We all clearly know this to be the truth:
Without getting too detailed, the major problem was that every time the phone was plugged in and in sleep mode; it would browse through random web pages on its own (all kinds of sites, including those that some users may consider very offensive). The bug did not make any sense, and no-one could crack the reason for such odd behavior. The phone was delayed, while Motorola scrambled.

Exactly - pretty much what I was saying in my post a few pages ago!

Motorola messed up and couldn't release the Etna/Bionic. They then promised a replacement, the Targa due "this summer".

After that, Motorola has said nothing. It seems after the fact we keep erecting strawman dates and problems and then attacking Motorola when they miss those and then further attacking/criticizing them.

Motorola deserved to be criticized for not having an LTE phone out by now, and they have, and I'm sure they have suffered for it. Anything after this has been undeserved. They have been careful, perhaps too careful now. And yes, it is very hard to be patient.

It'll come out, just settle in for a slightly longer trip. If someone beats them out with an Dual Core LTE, great, get it, but as a long (suffering) Motorola phone fan I want to see this thing first before I write them off.

i agree and disagree. i agree that the Targa is right on track for its targeted release date, and we don't have any real reason to be ticked at Moto for a Sept release of that particular device.

but, i disagree that Moto "never lied about anything". Moto confirmed several times that the Etna/Bionic was on target for a Q2 release, even after reports surfaced of significant problems. but then, Moto scrapped the Etna/Bionic because of these problems. instead of admitting to this, Moto claimed that it was delaying the release, and adding enhancements because of consumer demand/feedback. they didn't "add" anything to the Etna. instead, they simply assigned the Bionic name to a phone they already had in development, with these "enhancements" already designed in, and not because of any consumer demand/feedback.

i understand Moto's motivation - to save face. and, it probably worked for the vast majority of people out there. but, for us, a small segment of users, Moto probly would have been better served by just admitting that they had problems, and that they were going in a direction that ensured we got the best product possible.

I'm glad they didn't scrap the Bionic name,as I think it is an awesome name for a phone. You have the remember that Targa is just a codename, just like Etna is. Pretty much all phones have codenames. A few I can think of are sholes for the OG Droid, Shadow for the Droid X and Mecha for the Thunderbolt.

The point was to differentiate the device. If the Targa had been named something else, we'd have different vibes about it. Not saying people would be more/less happy and/or want to wait for something else. But people wouldn't be disappointed by the Targa's "delayed" release.

Rkeller is right on the dot with this. We also know that higher resolution screens means a performance hit unless better processors come out. So the OMAP4460 powering a 720p display will perform generally identical to a 4430 powering a qHD display. Performance wise, we aren't seeing any upgrades, just (questionably) sharper displays.

I am still on the fence between the Bionic and the GS2 (IF it has LTE, if not then an easy decision). Since we did not have to worry about being grandfathered into unlimited, I think just sitting back and playing with my DX is the best course of action.

GS2 for me if indeed has LTE. I'm also considering dropping Verizon since I've been sitting on an upgrade since April for the Bionic. My options are wide open at this point. I know one thing is I need a new phone with the next few weeks NOT September. My BB Tour is almost dead!

I say don't let need rush you into a decision you will regret. There are probably some great deals you can find on some older Android phones on ebay or craigslist to tide you over instead. Of course if you find something you really like and don't feel like you are compromising then, by all means, go for it.
