So...how are you getting on with the Nexus 6P?

It's my favorite phone for sure, the only thing I'm having a problem with is Doze and battery life in general. I lose between 5 and 8% a night, some nights more. the first handful of days with the phone, I was losing 1 to 2% so something's not working the way it was before. On top of that, battery life in general was carrying me to the end of the day with about +30% remaining and now I'm hitting a 15% warning, also towards the end of the day but to the point where I'd have to hit the charger or else it's gonna die on me. I have to experiment some more, but I'm getting the feeling that running Nova might have something to do with it.

Coming from a Nexus 5, now I don't need to carry a power bank wherever I go, I feel that battery has 3x more capacity even though it's just 2x but screen is bigger and CPU stronger, storage is encrypted (also should have some negative impact in CPU/battery usage), I don't know how they did it but it lasts way more than Nexus 5, even with heavy GPS usage...

Yeah, they stuffed a really small battery in the Nexus 5. Had that been 2800 to 3000 or so, it would have made that phone SOOO much easier to live with. Having to manage power was the primary reason I moved on to a different phone. If it had better battery performance, I most likely would have stuck with it for a while longer.

I mean, 2300 to 3450 is a HUGE jump. You are talking a 50% increase in capacity there, and that's kind of what I see as an improvement over what I had with my Nexus 5. Sure, the screen and resolution on the N5 lead to less power use, the 6P also comes with the benefit of a couple of years of processor and screen improvements... so that seems to wash out. But I was lucky to get 3 hours of SOT over full charge's use (roughly 24 hours) whereas I could get well over 6 hours if I pushed it over the course of a day (which I RARELY do).... or if I was tee-toddling, I could get 4 hours of SOT over two full days worth.

I returned mine as the battery life didn't cut it for me. I guess I am spoiled by my 6S plus battery that easily lasts me a day and half with 7-8 hours of screen-on time based on my usage. The Nexus 6P was only getting me about 12-18 hours with about 4-5 hours of screen-on time in comparison.

I did love the doze feature for Android 6 and it was a noticeable improvement in the standby times compared to previous Android phones that I tried out. If I could find a high end Android phone with all the latest bells and whistles that matched the battery life I get with the 6S plus, I would be a happy camper.

I love Nexus as I have the 6 and ordered the 6P on release day. Like you, I'm getting about 4 to 5 hours. Before these two phones I had several Droids with the monster batteries. Six to eight hours SOT was common. I love the 6P but wish it lasted longer. And Doze only works if the phone is not moving. They should have designed it to work when the screen is off. It won't doze in my pocket.

I've had mine about 5 weeks now, and I love it.

Apart from an issue I caused with a screen protector, it's been faultless. Everything works brilliantly, I do just wish they had allowed for extra storage. A micro SD slot would make it perfect.

Has anyone found any secrets, or tips with either the Nexus 6P or Android 6?

Tony.

I've had mine since the first part of Nov. no issues.
Wish it had microSD like above, but I have the 128GB version, so I'll live.

I'm confused by some of the last few responses. Why would one need their phone to last longer than from the time you unplug in the morning until the time your go to bed at night?

I moved from the iPhone 6 to the Nexus 6P about 3 days ago, and so far I am extremely impressed by with the phone and how great stock Android is. The phone is a whole lot bigger than my iPhone 6, but so far I am managing the added size of the 6P. Maybe having smaller bezels would help out with how big the phone feels in the hand.

My post pertained to on screen time....how long the battery lasts while using the phone.

love my graphite 64 6p ... it's the perfect device for what I use it for. honestly have 0 complaints, great phone for me!

I second the notion. All the discussions that took place in this section of the forums in the months leading up to the release were worth it. I'm beyond pleased with my Aluminum 32 GB.

I have been a Nexus user since Nexus 4 and is a huge fan of my 6p. This phone is all-round performer except one thing. I have been having problems with Google maps navigation while driving. The navigation sound just cuts off mid-way. This is a known problem.

A known problem with the phone, or the app?

If you travel often for business or pleasure, you'll be using GPS, Camera and other functions that you may not use extensively far more than usual which is a big drain on the battery. Not only that, sometimes you're just in situations where you don't have a charger readily available and not having to worry about whether or not the phone will die is a huge value added for a lot of people. I don't think having more battery life than less can ever be a bad thing :)

Had mine for over a month. I have no issues and everything is working fine since the 6.0.1 update.

Agreed on the lack of SD slot. I passed because of that alone.

Its been 2 months now with my Aluminum 64GB version and not one problem at all, although I've been with android for years this is my first Nexus device and its awesome. Everything worked from when it arrived, beautiful screen and enough storage space with all my music. Still have over 20GB of space left and the battery is amazing last forever.

I noticed no improved battery with my 6s Plus vs my 6p. I always have battery to last the night after work on my 6p and always was close to needing a boost on the charger with the iPhone after I got home.

Hmm had mine for 6 weeks now, I came from a oneplus one. This is my third nexus (galaxy nexus, nexus 4, 6p)
A few things.

It feels delicate.
Yeah it's nice for a nexus, but I've never had a phone that felt so fragile. Metal inspires confidence but thin metal makes me very nervous, especially with people bending the things left and right. My oneplus one felt solid. My galaxy nexus was solid, my droid maxx was solid, my nexus 4 was so so, I'm pretty sure an s6 can hammer a nail that's metal done right.

It's fast.
This sucker flies, but so did my oneplus one.

It gets updates fast.
But I like root and xposed, so I have to jump through hoops to get the updates.

It has marshmallow.
So did my oneplus one.

It has nfc.
I didn't want a oneplus two because it lacked nfc and I used Google wallet regularly. Turns out you can't use Android pay with root and xposed. I assumed there would be a STABLE & consistent workaround by now, but nope.

It charges fast!
But it dies faster than my oneplus one. If you don't touch it the phone will last for days, but who the hell cares about that. I molest my phone regularly.

The screen is beautiful.
But only if you replace the kernel and adjust the tuning yourself which means no Android pay.

It's doesn't get fingerprint on the screen easily.
I think it's black magic and I'm OK with that.

It keeps my hands warm.
At the expense of battery life.

It has a fingerprint reader.
It's awesome. A fantastic feature.

It has USB type C!
But its a pain in the ***.

The finish is nice in the hand.
It slips

The audio quality from the headphone jack is terrible.
It really is awful, viper4android helps a bunch, but doesn't correct the audible crosstalk and you can't use Android pay. Seriously how did that slip past any QA.

It can use project fi.
I use between 24 and 50 gb a month so.. Yeah not gonna pay an absurd amount for data.

It's expensive.
People keep saying its a good price, but oneplus ruined my sense of value.

The camera is awesome.
Simply awesome. The only reason I can justify this phone is because of the camera, which is OK because I bought it for the camera.

It has/is getting band 12
This was my second reason for getting this phone.

If I had to do it all again, I might go with a oneplus 2 if they do get tmo certified volte. Maybe.

The iPhone doesn't measure screen on time. If you are comparing usage time on your iPhone to screen on time of the 6P, it's not a fair comparison.
