so it's decision time

I do miss my bb sometimes, but the incredible is just so awesome. :)

<-- Ex Blackberry Bold 9000 user

Good phone with amazing battery life, but the Incredible's capabilities blow it away. I hope RIM's OS 6 is a game changer because OS 5/4 are so archaic too Android.

If you turn 4G off, then what's the point? Sprint has made it clear you need 4G to take advantage of some of the Evo's features. You essentially have an Incredible now.

The Evo has "a lot bigger batter"??? HAHAHA! You're a funny guy. Since when did +200mah equal a lot bigger? And if that extra 200mah really matter to you then just buy the MyTouch/etc 1500mah battery that's been mentioned everywhere on the forums. It's <$20. Whoopie.

Either way, even with your awesome 3G Evo, you're still looking at worse battery life. Look @ the reviews. 4.3" screen + no AMOLED like Incredible = More battery consumption. So if battery life is your issue, the Evo is NOT the solution. A better move would be either a mid-range Android phone w/o a Snapdragon sucking power or Blackberry.
If you turn off the 4G the following things will still work
Video Conference/Chat
Mobile Hotspot
Youtube HD

I'm not sure what won't work when the 4G is off, please educate me

If thats the case then give it a whirl. I do believe that you will be charged a $10 premium each month on top of your data/voice plan, so keep that in mind (From what I understand, this is regardless of whether you are in a Wimax city or not)

FYI, LTE is more accurately "4G" in terms of mobile technology than is what Sprint is using (which is Wimax), so Qazme is correct. Technically both are 4G(which basically just means 4th generation, as 3G is 3rd), but with different radio sets. I believe that Wimax technology has some components of wifi in it whereas LTE does not and is a true 3G successor - their interface is solely through mobile connectivity. I would assume Sprint is just branding their Wimax as 4G to keep it simpler for consumers to pick it and associate with everyone else (who will be using LTE; not only in the US but this will become a global standard)
I completely understand that LTE and Wimax are different approaches at achieving 4G.
I'm not sure where the 4G should be up for debate considering the Incredible will never get above 3G

Because the OP is trying to decide whether or not he wants to ditch the Incredible for an Evo (which is a WiMax/4G phone).

Regarding your post above, mobile hotspot/youtubeHD are not 4G features so both would be moot points. Mobile hotspot is basically using the same features as tethering, and even the Pre can do that (which is a 3G phone). YoutubeHD is only a software limitation through Sense/HTC, as I have the APK on my phone (an Incredible) to play YoutubeHD. As for video conferencing, that would be tremendously choppy if you do not have 4G and are using 3G. The whole point of 4G is to be able to send large amounts of data packets at a rapid pace.

4G is supposed to be a lower power way to give us data connection. Which in theory leads to faster speeds and less battery draw. From what I understand the low power part of it only comes with LTE and WiMax is considered a poor implementation for fast speeds.

You are right Incredible will never have 4G but neither will the EVO for many many many people who buy it. It will probably take 3-5 years for them to roll it out nation wide and by then you won't even have an EVO. So unless you leave in one of the 27 cities that currently have it, you will probably end up with a new cell phone before your EVO will have it.

Now as far as the 200maH battery (1300 vs 1500) the extra battery space gets ate up by the extra screen size, not to mention the screen is LCD not amoled which means it will use more power. So the battery life will be just as bad if not worse on the EVO.

In the end unless Sprint gives you better coverage at a much cheaper price I would stay with the Incredible.

Thanks for the detailed opinion. I do live in an area with wimax coverage but I think ill stick with my inc anywi

how you feel about shadow unfortunately theres now way to get it before 30 days is up lol

No-one here can sway you one way or the other.

You know what you're really going to do ;)

Guys don't get me wrong the Incredible is an awesome phone, I just want to make sure the OP is getting all the info to make the right decision

but sprint is roaming off of verizon towers and employees said their contract runs out soon and havent shown interest in re newing it which would mean the sprint service will turn into t mobile which is complete garbage

I heard it was good for like 10 years. My biggest concern about the roaming is not always getting 3g.

i talked to a guy who was a district manager and he said it wasnt nenewed at the moment running out late this year

I don't think you know all the details yourself. You are telling the OP certain things but not others, which would be the problem. You may want to do some additional research on the technologies involved as from what I can tell, there are a few things you are still not fully informed on (I don't mean this in a demeaning way or anything, just saying).

I would love for you to give me an example for what I'm leaving out, if you read the thread I jumped on when someone told the OP that the only difference between EVO and the Incredible was the screen size, well I would hope that even you would know that that's not the only difference, now I do know that I'm jumping into a water full of sharks by stating my opinions on the 2 phones and favoring the EVO on a Incredible sub forum but I actually had the Incredible for a week and the lack of HTC News widget, cheap plastic feel, reception and battery life issues was to much for me accept from a carrier that has the highest ETF fees, I'm not saying that the EVOs gonna be the best phone ever but with the additional features and none of the reviews bashing the build quality I'm gonna take that chance.

I would just leave it alone, there's no rationalizing with him. All the Evo 4G owners on the forums have some kind of personal issue with trying to tell everyone they are about to receive God's gift to cell phones.

Most people think that the bars is a problem. According to HTC, the phone purposely pulls a weaker signal when not in use. It maintains just enough to keep a connection with the tower. When the phone is in use then you will see the bars jump up. This is to help limit the drain on the battery. I didn't really buy this until I atually paid attention to my phone in and out of use and it was actually true. As soon as I started using the phone, for either voice or data, the bars would jump from 1 to 3 instantly. As soon as I finished and the phone was idle, it dropped back down to one bar.

Got a link to this?
This is the first I've heard of it.

Although for the record, I have not had any reception issues whatsoever....just the bars are low.

I aint gonna lie....if EVO were on Verizon, I would have been all over that bigass phone, but it's not, and there's no way in Hell I'd go with Sprint for any phone at all. That being said, the Incredible kicks major ass on the best wireless network in the U.S.

agree 100%

You guys are brutal - I read this entire thread and he did nothing wrong as far as information sharing is concerned. You Incredible/VZW folks are the ones who need to lighten up.

If you can live with your old phone for a while, why not return the Inc and wait for the onslaught of new Android devices that is expected at VZW this summer? The Droid 2 is on the way. Others will follow in short time.

If I had constant problems with my Inc, I would go that route. Fortunately, my replacement device has been very, very good. Have you tried getting a new replacement?
