So who's returning the Pixel 5 and why?

We can hope, but I doubt the 6 will be much different The only pixels that have sold well have been the "a" line, so Google's seen the writing on the wall and given an "a" line phone a shot of steroids... and called it the pixel 5. Some of us wanted something more premium, but I think the pixel 5 is going to sell well to the masses because of it's price and features, and the 4a/5g is going to sell even better.

Even though I wanted something more premium myself, I think Google made the right call to try and make the pixel line more profitable. I'd rather have the 4a/5g and 5 around then no pixels at all

If that's the case, then Google might as just just make the 'a' line and scrap their other lines of the Pixel. Just make the Pixel 5a next year your one phone and sell as many as you can. Because the premium strategy didn't work for them (largely in part of Google never really caring about it or actually trying to make a push for it, along with always mediocre specs) so now they're giving up on that and trying to make a $700 phone. Problem is that the market already has offerings like the Galaxy S20 FE (with a flagship chipset) and near that price range is the iPhone Mini, iPhone 12 and of course older iPhones, along with other Samsung phones.

I thought with the $700 Pixel 5, it was going to be a really solid upper-mid range phone, but it ended up being worse than I expected and way too much for what is offered. So many shortcuts made led to a very, very generic device. The best thing I can say about it is that it has really great battery life, but everything else is either mediocre or a disappointment. It's sad to me because I LOVED the original Pixel XL and Pixel 2 XL then I felt the line started going downhill with the 3 and 4 and now it's even worse with the 5.

If Google do make a real flagship phone again, I'll be back, but until then, there's nothing compelling about the Pixel phones at the moment.

Still have it but getting rid of it, along with the Pixel 5. Was contemplating just selling the 5 and sticking with the S10+, but decided against it. iPhone 12 Pro Max arrives tomorrow, so no more android for me. Not until something comes around to interest me again.....hopefully the Pixel 6?

Just got it today (iPhone 12 Pro Max, 128gb in Pacific Blue). So far after about 10 hours of use, I'm amazed at how good it is. Obviously still honeymoon period, but the positives of the phone are really shining through. I'll have to use it for a few more days/weeks, but honestly this is so good that I might not return to android.

The hardware is amazingly good. Like, I've never held a phone this nice before. The metal edges, the weight, how sturdy it feels, it's amazing. The phone zips around super smooth and even though it has only a 60hz display, the way the OS animates and navigates, you don't really miss 90hz too much. I think my eyes have already gotten used to it. Nothing stalls the phone at all, no matter how fast I am, it constantly keeps up with ease.

The battery life is something else. I have 4 hours of screen time and still on 85% battery. Granted that's only on wifi as I was working from home, but I cannot believe how good that is. I'm not sure if it's Apple skewing the battery % so it lasts really really long at higher % levels then drops off later, but so far the battery is exceptional.

The camera is great. I do like the Pixel camera a bit more, just the way it's a bit more contrasty, but at night, this blows the Pixel 5 out of the water easy. Pixel 5 has so much noise in night shots, the iPhone is super clean. Wide angle is wider and has 2.5x optical as well. And video in HDR is amazing. The camera package overall is substantially better than the Pixel.

Now I can see why so many people love and stick with the iPhone. It's like much better version of the Pixel phones. And with Google scrapping unlimited photo backup - possibly for future Pixels, as of right now (again, still in honeymoon period) I don't have any reason to go back to the Pixel. I guess in the coming weeks the negatives will start to show up, but right now, this just does everything better, I guess except for still images, but that's a preference thing.

Wow, that sounds like a phenomenal device! I am very impressed with the battery life and the camera operations. Apple has always done well in those areas and it's nice to see consistency. And I think that it's great that it feels good to hold! That's a huge appeal and drawback for phones that were made well VS not so well.

This is why I'm not buying the 5 and I'm beyond disappointed about this. I've been wanting this phone for months and now these reports come out?? WTF was Google even thinking?

I'm hoping the rumors of a premium Pixel device being released in spring of next year are true. I don't want to keep my 3XL for another year. I might just have to leave the Google phones if that's the case. I just wish Sammy would make an Android phone w/o all the bull**** they put on it.

Interesting test comparing the same phones against each other. Was kind of hoping he’d do a speaker test to see if one was any better than the other. Reading the forum there is a good discrepancy between opinions regarding the quality of the speakers. I think most lean toward poor top speaker but some say top sounds fine. Anyway I’d of wished he’d done that test.
I’m still on my pixel 2 and am getting an itch to upgrade but the 5 just is t doing anything to entice me. Those speakers.....and not just the sound quality but the ability to hear the caller on the other end clearly.
My iPhone running latest beta has a message notification issue, an apparent bug suffered by many so using that phone is out for now. That leaves me with the 2 and hoping the battery will continue to hold up. I wish the 4a5g wasn’t so big I’d get that. No 5G anywhere near where I live tho, Lol, not surprising.

I sent mine back yesterday on the last day I could. I really really wanted to like the smaller form factor but coming from the P4XL, I just couldn't. I didn't like the haptic feedback compared to the P4XL and IMO the P4XL feels more premium. Camera is still very very good on the P4XL but I will miss the SPECTACULAR battery life on the P5. Hopefully Google releases a larger "premium" device later down the line. This will be the first year in about 4 years that I will be holding onto a phone for more than a year. Leaving this thread but I'll be on the P4 thread if your looking for me

I originally bought the unlocked Black Pixel 5 from Best Buy but exchanged it after a week for the iPhone 12 Pro. The reason I exchanged it was because the speakers just wasn't that great, the display was good, but nothing special imo. The battery life was amazing on the Pixel 5 along with all the spam features that Google installed was phenomenon.

But after paying $1055 for the iphone 12 Pro, I asked myself if the iphone 12 Pro was really worth it. To me, it worked the exact same way as ALL the previous iphones. Yes the camera was upgraded, oh and it has widgets now...Nothing special. For me and my personal use, the iphone just wasn't worth the high price tag.

Despite the lacking Speakers and "good" display, I ordered me another Pixel 5, this time in Sage. The Pixel 5 has a lot of beneficial Pros for my usage, than cons. I'm good with my decision.

It's a keeper!
