So, why aren't you getting the 3/3 XL?

1. My Pixel 2 XL's warranty will run out about the same time as it would for the Pixel 3/3XL were I to upgrade.
2. Many of the most enticing upgrades (to me) are still coming to the 2 XL. The nicer screen, super Rez zoom, and 600MHz band are attractive (the latter being meaningful to me as a T-Mobile user) but only made the phone worth considering, not enough to upgrade given the cost because...
3. Google shortchanged the trade-in value by a huge amount compared to last year. They are offering far less value for a Pixel 2 XL than they did for a Pixel XL last year, and upping the price at the same time. Had they even offered the same value as last year I probably would have upgraded.
Point 3 is what stopped me. $335 for my 2xl 128gb was not enough. $435 and I'd have a 3xl on the way.

Last year the timing was perfect as my daughter needed a new phone when the 2 came out so she got my OG Pixel.

Not so this year and Google with a mild upgrade and low-ball trade in value didn't make a strong case to upgrade.

$335 for my 2xl 128gb was not enough.

Sad that the 128GB version of the Pixel 2 XL maxes out at $325 - only $10 more trade-in value than the 64GB model. Interesting that for the smaller size, the values are $327 and $300 for the 128GB and 64GB models, respectively nearly triple the difference.

In either case, if one is an annual or even bi-annual upgrader, the depreciation on that upgrade is very steep, so unless you truly anticipate needing the larger storage size it's likely a waste of money.

I still had to exert a lot of restraint to stop myself from ordering (until the $50 email promo expired last night) as it looks like Swappa is drawing considerably more, with the Pixel 2 XL still generally selling starting from the low- to mid-400's. Much better way to go than the trade-in, I think, especially as it was about a 6-week process when I did it through Google last year and, even after Swappa and PayPal fees one's likely to come out $50 to 100+ ahead.

Google just announced new phones and started taking orders. Why aren't you upgrading?

The software elements I'm interested in will come to the Pixel 2 anyway

The only hardware upgrade that could convince me is the update to the Pixel Visual Core chip, but not enough is known about that to make a choice now.

i'm waiting for proper reviews for the Pixel 3 and see how the Pixel 2 compares first

Only had mine since April and it's just as fast as the day I powered it up. No need to upgrade especially with another 18 months of warranty.

I'm still paying off my p2. :( Honestly, I would have gotten the p3 if I wasn't still paying it off or if they offered more than $300 for a trade in.
At this point, I wish I would have gotten the p2xl, but I wouldn't go with the p3 xl bc of the notch.
I've wish I could trade my p2 for the xl lol.

- Still have a year warranty on my 2XL
- Other than perhaps a nicer screen and wireless charging, the 2XL will have the same features as the 3XL I can get.
- I'm on a 2-year upgrade contract

I feel that the 4XL will be a bigger upgrade and will be a more reasonable cost. I'm feeling the pull of a new device, but it really does not make any sense.

My sentiment exactly, sticking with my p2.

Keeping my Pixel 2 for now.

Not going with the 3XL because I think the notch is incredibly ugly.

Not going with the 3 because I've seen reports of hard-to-press power buttons. I've seen a whopping of sample of 1 that verifies this.

If I could learn to tolerate the notch, I'm torn between the 3XL with the larger battery and the sleeker and notchless 3. I've always preferred smaller phones but am considering going to a larger one now. The last large phone I had was a Nexus 6P.

If you go to a Best Buy store, they have demo Pixel 3 and 3 XL's on display. When I put my P2XL next to the 3 XL, and held it up, I have to admit the display was really sharp. But wow, that notch was just sticking out there. I didn't check the power button myself, so I can't answer to that one.

Side note, I still have my 6P. Swapped out the battery, and now my daughter uses it as a tablet. :)

I am still debating upgrading from 2xl to a 3 xl. I went to bestbuy to see if i could deal with the pixel 3 however it is defintely too small. The good news is the notch can be disabled so thats a plus however Camera differences when my pixel 2xl camera is very good and is getting some of those cool features i am thinking I can wait. I believe the next pixel will have a lot more features to be able to get the 4xl from the 2 than the 3xl.

I can easily wait to see what the P4 line up brings. P3 brought high price, notch, and gestures all of which are downsides to me. I'm more than fine sticking with my P2.

I started to upgrade to the Pixel 3 or Pixel 3XL but just changed my mind . It was not because of the notch or anything like that .Almost did again a few days ago,

But now everyday that passes I'm no longer feeling the need to update.

I only upgrade every other year. It's really not necessary, especially when so many of the features I want are coming to the 2 XL.

I mean, I just downloaded the Pixel 3 camera for my phone to try Night Mode and WHOA. I REALLY felt like I didn't need a Pixel 3 after seeing that.

I'd already made the decision to hold off for several reasons as mentioned earlier. But yes, trying out the new APK really cemented it - the Pixel 3 XL is just an iterative update, not any major changes.

When the Pixel 4 lineup comes out, with HTC's design team having been on board since the initial stages of its development (as opposed to coming in when much of the Pixel 3 lineup was already mostly defined), I anticipate great things. Sadly, I don't expect a drop in price to be among them, though.

I didn't realize they dropped the notification LED light - is this on both new Pixels or just the XL?

I've had a bit of a love/hate relationship with my Pixel 2. I don't love it, but I don't hate it. It runs well, has the latest software, gets tolerable battery life, has an excellent camera for still shots and is a great size. I don't think it does video well, the screen is to small but it looks ok, the bleeding edge of updates sometimes breaks things, I don't like some things in Pie like the horizontal recent apps menu and gesture navigation (that I expect to be forced upon me at some point) no headphone jack, touch response flakes out at times.

I just found the pixel 3 very underwhelming for the price increase and think if I'm going to spend that much maybe I should get a few more bells and whistles. I think it was a very tepid update at best and now there are reports of bad audio during video recording and memory management issues. So I can wait and continue my love/hate relationship with my small screened wonder or jump on something else which I am considering. Waiting to see the OP6T first. If that disappoints I'm looking at the Note 9.

What do you think of the Mate 20 Pro and the V40?

I too have the regular Pixel 2 and I love how it performs but I hate these damn bezels and small battery.
