So, why aren't you getting the 3/3 XL?

I was interested in the V40 up until I watched Max Lee's Pixel 3 vs V40 camera comparison on YouTube. IMO the V40 camera isn't in the same league with the Pixel. Everything on the V40 looked like it was shot in "beauty mode". Poor detail and colors off.

What do you think of the Mate 20 Pro and the V40?

I too have the regular Pixel 2 and I love how it performs but I hate these damn bezels and small battery.
I haven't considered the mate 20 because I'm in the US. I've played with the V40. Nice screen, like how you can hide the notch and leave your notifications up there. Software is ok, surprisingly not to overloaded with crap. I did not love the camera or the camera app though. It was too easy to slip from one lens to another while zooming and not realize it. It was also slow to focus and lacked the detail I've become accustomed to with the Pixel 2. However from everything I've read and seen the audio capabilities with the boom chamber and the quad DAC seem great but I need a quick good camera for family and kid pics. I can't go back to a slow grainy camera and I've been mostly wireless with my audio for awhile so while a part of me wants the DAC and great music it's not a big enough draw to make it a priority.

Yeah, I'll go check out that video but I've seen a lot of comparisons and it doesn't look good. Tom's guide did a comparison of the V40 against the Note 9 and it wasn't close. The colors and detail on the V40 look awful. It's all in the software. IDK what LG is doing in processing but it's not good which doesn't make sense to me because they are putting in high end optics and sensors.

Cost.
I just got a Pixel 2 XL, a few weeks ago, because they are finally at a reasonable price point.

Yep the 3's are overpriced. The 2's will definitely be coming down to much more reasonable prices in the coming months ;-)

I got a P3, but probably should return it, it is just sitting unused...I like my P2XL more . I have tested it extensively as a new T-Mo customer to see if Band 71 matters. So far in a 400 mile radius around Phila. it hasn't.

I returned a P3XL due to the fact that it would only "charge slowly" over USB for use with Android Auto. The P2XL functions flawlessly in the same cars, same ports and same cables; and reports as "charging". The P3XL would gain maybe 1% every 10 minutes; whereas the P2XL gains more like 1% per minute.

For $1000 I expect to not go backwards in functionality.

You're not saying why you prefer the 2XL more.

I purchased the 3 (non XL) and received it on launch day... It was returned yesterday and I am back on a Pixel 2... I foolishly traded in my Pixel 2 and already received the credit for it but scored another locally in brand new shape for the same amount as I got for my trade..

Why return the 3?

- Gestures are terrible! If there was a way to turn them off and revert to the bottom buttons I may have kept it
- After tax my Pixel 3 was pushing $900. I got $300 trade in on my Pixel 2 which makes it a $600 upgrade. Not worth $600 more in my opinion..

I am going to keep the 2 and see what the 4 offers next year. I know I could have used a different launcher on the 3 but I prefer to keep the phone 100% stock and even though I own Nova, I never use it...

So the 3 is on the way back to the mothership and I am back rocking a 2 in White....

White P2 for the win.

In light that 5G is making its way towards smartphones in the next year or so, I'm going to wait. Besides, I love my panda P2XL. :)

Gestures take some time to get used to. I hated it at first (using on my 2 XL) but after about a week my muscle memory had adapted to where I don't think about it and the gestures are second-nature. I'm sure they'll get better with time, but I wouldn't expect them to disappear for the 4 - at some point you'll need to make the switch (though I agree the 3 doesn't offer a good return on investment for owners of the 2, especially since the warranty for a 3 purchased at launch would run out at about the same time as that for a 2 purchased at launch)

I tried the OnePlus 6T out the other day, I can live with those gestures. They actually save space. Yes, you can use Google's and get used to them but they just aren't as good and they save no space.

I might pickup the 6T to try out for something different. But the more I look and think about it I'm seeing little reason to get rid of my Pixel 2. A coworker got the Pixel 3 and the screen is nice, it's bigger, but he has to use the gestures and outside of the bigger screen I can't justify the price increase.

There's no need to bump up to a 3XL for me at this point, primarily because it's all incremental change. Radical change, which could come as early as the Pixel 4XL, would make me upgrade.

I just got my smaller Pixel 2 in April, and am loving it! I do not see enough of an improvement with the Pixel 3 line to justify upgrading from my Pixel 2. Don't get me wrong - the Pixel 3 line looks really great - but I do not see the point in upgrading, to be honest. Plus, I do not see the economic feasibility in upgrading from one flagship-level phone to another in seven months. Perhaps I'll keep an eye out for the Pixel 4.

Also, my phone does everything I need it to and does it well - I am very satisfied with it. I also do not have the need to have the latest and greatest - the Pixel 2 will serve me well for the next year and a half.

There's no reason you have to upgrade from a 2XL to a 3XL unless you want to, especially since the 2s have a two year warranty built in. I made the choice to upgrade to a 3XL and sold mine on Swappa. Did I get monies worth? We can debate that till the cows come home. At my age I'm not going to worry about spoiling myself. I worked for it and still work for it but I'm going to enjoy myself. I will miss my Panda but the notch drew me in and I was already used to the gestures. I love the screen even though I was never unhappy with the 2. You really can't go wrong with the 2XL or the 3XL. Jumping from the 2 to the 3 is less of a value because of the bigger jump in price so that's an even harder choice to defend. If money is an issue you are still in good hands with Google as long as you are happy with your phone and maybe the 4 will be a more worthy and justifiable upgrade.

I completely agree with you. It's all up to the individual user whether or not the upgrade is worth it. The 3 line is a very capable and awesome one and I can certainly understand why some would want to upgrade.

And I don't update just to have the newest phone.

I'm working on curbing my desire to always have the latest thing. I just picked up a 64GB 2 XL today from the Facebook marketplace and I'm loving it.

I started to upgrade to the Pixel 3 or Pixel 3XL but just changed my mind.

I went so far as to order it. It arrived on yesterday and I'd already requested RMA before the box for to my house. Just too expensive for what changed.

I only upgrade every other year. It's really not necessary, especially when so many of the features I want are coming to the 2 XL.

If I can get there, which I'm working on, things would be great. Maybe I stop following tech on YouTube lol
