Some cases don't work with V10 fingerprint reader. Name your case and if it works or not.

Picked up a matte black tpu from Verizon for $20 when I got my V10 yesterday. Zero issues using the fingerprint scanner with the case on. I'd like to see LG update the software and use a simple scan to unlock the phone when the screens off just like the new Nexus phones but I won't hold my breath.

Edit: I re-scanned my finger prints with the case on and added in extra scans for my left and right index finger as well for good measure. Shouldn't be needed but clearly LG didn't test this damn thing very well initially.

I have this one too, and the FPS works for me. I too re-scanned after putting on the case.

I have this one's sister (Crystal Clear (SGP11792)) and just set up the FPS. I have to put the finger straight on the scanner and it works in 2 tries.

Got my OBLIQ case in from Amazon and it doesn't really work well with the fingerprint scanner. I was able to get it to work by wildly moving my finger around but that was only 2 out of like 20 tries.

This is the same one I have. The fingerprint reader works perfectly for me. First try almost every time.

Great case. Very thin and still protective.

Weird. It definitely doens't work for me :(

I keep saying this, but people don't seem to listen.

It appears that some V10s work with all cases, and some V10s don't work with any cases. Some people have had to reprogram their fingerprint readers with a new case, but either it always works with a case or it never does.

Electrical contact story is nonsense. I tried opening with FPR without touching sides. It worked. Today I got cheap Oblique 7.99 case in and the FPR works great with this case. No electrical contract needed. That is crap.

I also read review on DroidLife where the reviewed said Samsung FPR's are better since they unlock and open on just a press. I found on my V10 a press and hold on the power button does the same thing.

Ignore the electrical contact needed. Don't know how that got started. But I bet somewhere, probably the guy who used foil, there is someone laughing their **** off at the traction that nonsense has received.

I could verify that my v10 will not unlock (without case) unless im touching the side stainless steel. So that is in fact an issue. Possibly a fault some v10's are having.

How is this an LG issue? If a thicker case makes your finger hit a a different angle, you might need to program it at that angle for best results.

What testing should LG have done in this case?

I got a Case-Mate leather wallet from the Verizon store online. The fingerprint works if I hold the phone it just right so a thumb is pressing down against the little bit of metal that isn't covered. It's not as easy now, but it works. I re-entered my fingerprint on the phone, which seems to have helped.

"They call them fingers... but I've never seen them fing."

That's what I've been seeing from the reading I've done. Not sure what changes from each device. I've reprogrammed the FPS with the case on and it doesn't always work.

You're not the only one, VDub. I have a simple hard/shell case with a LARGE opening for the volume/finger print reader. I've also got the same Obliq case. The scanner works like crap with either case on.. and I'm not putting my finger down in any different angle that I would with the phone naked. With the phone naked, I get the scan/unlock working 98% of the time. Something definitely has to be different from V10 to V10 for us all to have such wide differences in how cases work with the scanner.

On a side note, concerning the Obliq case. Mine isn't a perfect tight fit. I see a gap on the left side where I can actually see the steel rail. I contacted Obliq via the Amazon (contact seller) link. As someone posted in another thread, Obliq replied back that they know of the issue, and that a new batch has been remanufactured and being released today (11/17). They are sending me one.

I don't think it's the cases, or the angle of the finger touching the sensor. I believe it's a ground issue. If your hand isn't touching the metal on the sides of the phone, it isn't going to work. Some really thin cases may get enough ground to make the finger print sensor work, just like one previous poster said, if he squeezes his phone with the case on, it works.

Interesting.

In that case, why does my fingerprint reader work perfectly with every case I have tried. Why does it even work it I don't put on a case, but have my only contact be the fingerprint reader.

Why is it that my friend's V10 does not work with any case, including one of the cases that work perfectly well for me?

Why is it that a good percentage of the people who report having problems, also report that they went away when the reprogrammed the fingerprint reader with the case on. Does reprogramming the fingerprint reader somehow make the cases more conductive to electricity?

I'm not sure what "getting enough ground" means, but if a piece of rubber doesn't conduct electricity, it seems unlikely that putting a little pressure on it is going to make it conductive.

So I received my Obliq case today.. And so far the fingerprint scanner appears to working a lot better and for the half the price. I will admit the Incipio Dual Pro is is nice case however nice is does not compare to working....

Some phones don't have the problem at all, so it doesn't matter what case is on the phone, it's going to work. It's kind of like a screen protector. At least what I'm trying to explain is. If you put a screen protector on your screen, it still works when you touch it, right? But, it won't work if you put a thick enough piece of plastic on it will it? Hence, thin cases work sometimes. Being that all screen protectors are not glass, and your theory that rubber doest conduct electricity, how does the screen react with a plastic screen protector on it? I'm standing by what I said earlier! If you don't believe it, take your case off and try unlocking your phone with out touching the sides. All that matters to me is that it works. Mine didn't, so it went back. The one on my Note 5 works great.
You obviously got a non defective V-10, congrats to you.

There is an easy fix for the case issue. The manufacturers will be need to make a revised case that allows continuity to pass through on one side when you hold the case so that the fingerprint sensor is grounded and works. I have the oblique case and I just simply slide my thumb down on one side of the case with my right hand and tough the sensor. It unlocks as normal. A small part of the side of the case can have a small strip of aluminum for contact to the side of the phone so fingerprint sensor works.

I just tried it. I took off the case, stood the phone up on the table, held it in place with one finger on the top, and tired to unlock it.

It worked fine.

It took a couple of tries because the angle was wrong, but it worked.

All I'm saying is that if you were right, we would be hearing some people say it works with one case and not with another. Or we would be hearing about thinner cases that worked for more people. We aren't hearing that. Some phones work with all cases, and some don't work with any. Clearly there's an issue, but this one doesn't seem to make sense based on what we are seeing.

I rather have a good case that protects over a flimsy case that works. To each is own.

Don't be so dramatic. The OBLIQ is a nice case that protects as well as any of the thinner cases. It's not made out of tissue paper.

It doesn't protect as well as an otterbox, but a lot of people don't want they much size or need that much protection.

If maximum protection is truly of paramount importance to you, I suggest you keep your V10 in the box it came in. That's way more protection than that skimpy otterbox.
