Something popped up saying my device was infected with a virus?

This has happened to me twice recently and it's true that the first site was one of those dodgy lyrics sites (why is it not possible to search for song lyrics without getting attacked by vicious spam/malware, btw?) but the second time I had followed a link to webmd. Which I thought was pretty mainstream/safe??

Just had it on my Samsung4. It came up while checking a site that I built. My client's site had been hacked with a "Redirect" file. My phone had a window come up that said "Your battery is infected and that I had 5 minutes to click the button at the bottom to fix it." a timer started a countdown and something else about leaving the window would give me some issues. I shut the power off right away and rebooted. All seems ok now but I'm backing up stuff to be sure.

have a samsung gallaxy four and have service through metropcs. the message came from metrozone saying my phone had viruses and if i don't download install and use supercleaner my sim card will not work. is this legit?

i was on google searching the internet and a pop up came up saying my device had been infected and to hit ok to fix it. Well i didnt hit ok i just closed the website out and cleared all my google chrome info. Should i be worried? the phone is acting fine now but im worried

I have just had the message on my new (3 weeks ago) . I put malwarebyts on it but found no malware.
I discovered the culprit quite easily It was Chrome browser had been directed to a page that had a script to open a popup and declare the I had 4 viruses because I have visited porn sites.

I discovered the Chrome also had many pages open and was 'stuck' on the malware site giving the popup. I closed each page in tun until Chrome closed. I opened Chrome and all was clear.

I then checked Chrome browsing history and discovered the web adress fsxbo_____.pw (I have obscured the full address for obvious reasons.) Lets ust call it 'fsx' In the history the 'fsx' address was listed twice and just befor and after there had been a google search for 'Pope'

I am the only user of teh phone and I had not deliberately done a search for 'Pope' nor had I visited any porn sites.

So, to reiterate, my cure was to close all open pages in Chrome! Job done!

To be on the safe side, I also deleted all browsing history.

DU Speed sorry but THAT is the virus. You're on a Facebook Web page reading news and suddenly a popup opens and says your infected ( this is your first clue the facebook website itself is infected). You try to bypass the pop up and do not say ok. Then it redirects you to another webpage with a broken robot image and red letter text that warns you that your phone is 28% infected and it will get worse if you don't act now. And it warns you that this will affect your contacts and other applications if you don't do something immediately. And it me tions you got it from adult site. [Except that i ha e never visited any adult site. I literally just purchased this phone and it is literally sitting at factory default. I put the Facebook app on this phone and signed into my Facebook and saw a notification 4 this post. I opened the news article attached to the Post. I haven't been on my web browser at all because I haven't had time to since I literally just purchased the phone from the store.] When you bypass the web page with the broken robot you are immediately redirected it automatically starts up your Google Play Store for you and it's already open to the page to install DU speed tester.... DU speed tester is the offender. you have already been infected and they are trying to force you or direct you to install their app on your phone. Please read the post above where the contributor tells you do not install anything that it directs you to install. Close your phone and factory reset your phone if possible and install a legitimate virus scanner on your phone. One that is approved by Google or that is approved by your mobile provider.

I have seen it on news type web sites and they aren't shady per se. I never visit Shady or adult website. But the ad will tell you you have gotten a virus from an adult website. I have a brand new phone literally I just bought it I haven't been to any website at all. This is a News website that I opened from a shared Facebook link. It opened the website within Facebook. That's when the pop up happened when I was reading the news article. And there was no adult content or Shady content on that website. It's obvious that these Trojans are all kinds of places you don't have to be a person who visits inappropriate websites to run into malware.

What i find funny is that batteries cannot get viruses, as viruses are stored information that always require more than 10 mb of space. Batteries have less than half a mb of space. Ignore it. Seemples.

Every single time i unlock my screen on my Samsung s6 it keeps opening up a web page . Its $^#^= annoying..Install bit defender. It picks up a Trojan stand alone without any app running or attached as a pararasite. And remove . Lol works wonders and I've tried everything for the past 4 months. Nothing worked. Finally this did and in 20 seconds to and the app is only 2.5 mb. Awesome I recommend installing bit defender . Works wonders. No reseting of phone to factory settings etc. I give it double thumbs up lol

Although this is an old thread, this is smthn that'll happen as long as we use our cellular devices. Hate to say this but from the answers i did read.... those are all bandaids, so to speak. Are as my instructions honesty just a bigger, thicker bandaid. Moving along now -
Obviously you were in your browser when you got that pop up, so you need to clear everything out of your browser (internet).
In your settings menu, tap applications. Find your browser (or internet) and clear it out, I mean completely. Last step: Reboot/ restart your device.
I will say this once you get that pop up... you know, "you've won this you won that" the "choose your free gift now" "the five top winners" lol complete with comments of contest participants... etc etc etc etc, then most likely you will get that pop up again at some point in time. As far as i know though, it won't destroy your data or your device -AS LONG AS you address the matter. Personally, I've conditioned myself to treating it as smthn that just goes hand in hand with my android devices. Kinda like my Swype feature. I took screenshots the last time it happened to me, approx a year ago and I researched it. Lol. Even down to the comments of the (not real) people.
Don't freak out abt it though. It'll all work out.

OK this happened to me too... it happened on my samsung interent. I was just cruising the interent then this popes up saying my samsung s5 is infected with a virus. It freaked me our since my phone IS a Samsung s5. And that I have 5 minutes to download the recommended virus scanning app (but there was just a link) my phone then vibrated for a good 10 seconds. I'm a ***** so I clicked on it. Then I realized what I did and did virus scan with clean master. It took almost 10 minutes when it usually takes SECONDS to scan... then it said no virus. So then I cleaned the junk on my phone. Usually there's 100mb-300mb of junk to clean... there was 1GB to clean after the virus scan... so that freaked me out since it's not normal amount of junk. Then I downloaded free avg. Took another 10 minutes to scan and still said no virus. So I Uninstalled and googled best free virus scan for android, advast popped up. And also something called AVL. So I downloaded both.. advast took another 10 minutes which again, isn't normal for my phone I've downloaded advast before and not that slow. I then tried AVL since advast said no virus. AVL said my gallary photos is risky and that's it. So I'm a little worried. My phone goes from 100% charged to 50% in 30 minutes it's like something is draining it. I didn't install anything new when that happened. I was just cruising samsung Internet. What do I do now.
